i will be really surprised if holden is not 1st team for the exact reasons cardalum listed.

barnes is definately going to be COY for going 7-0 and winning the tough road games.

i would think ncc will fair well in offensive selections for all conf.

defensively, there will likely be much debate between carthage, augie, and wheaton players. several elmhurst players probably deserve serious consideration too.

we will all know tomorrow.

as for the matchups this weekend:

i think ncc will have its work cut out for it against a dominant defensive team. these guys have some great numbers (+12 in takeaways, 200+ yds pg, 59 yds rush pg). this team lead muc 17-14 late in the game. also beat a really good onu team. ncc will have to step it up on defense and special teams to get out of this with a win.

augie should have no trouble w lakeland (lakeland just beat greenville 20-13; wheaton beat greenville 58-7). in fact, i think augie is poised to make a run deep into this postseason. they are really playing well, their offense is as good as i have seen it since 1999 and they have a very good defense for the first time i can remember. their offense has always given playoff teams fits w a short time to prepare.

having said all that there is one hidden disadvantage for ncc and augie, in particular augie: film exchange. the rule is the last two games each opponent has played. for augie opponents they can't get any better tape than v ncc and v wheaton. muc in second round its huge because augie gets muc v heidleberg and muskingum. ncc gets tape of cap v wilmington and john carroll (1 good film) while giving up v augie and v north park (1 good film). could be a pretty big hidden factor given the unfamiliarity of teams w ncc/ augie (muc excepted)

It actually changed last year to the past three games for video exchange, not two.

aaah. thanks pat. call that advantage ncc. they now also get the onu/cap game. thats a big difference. for augie opponents the rich get richer as they now get the elmhurst film, the third best film for augie opponents.

Usee,
I don't think that will matter in Augie's case. I mean you know that they are going to run the ball. The only thing is if you have the athletes and large bodies on Defense to stop them (example Carthage) and if not then you better have the athletes on Offense to score 1 more point than they do (example Central).  Not saying that Central has better athletes than Augie by any means just using the score and the way you must play the game as an example.

North Central on the other hand will benefit with that because now they will get a better look at what Capital is running and develop a game plan that will be successful against them.

I think both schools win their first round games, Augie wins easy, while North Central pulls out another close one thanks to the senior leadership that they have.

Go CCIW!

usee,

this score from the greenville game can be misleading, greenville really developed as the season went on and when they played lakeland they had become a solid team, i dont think this comparison is fair, still i feel augie will be too much for lakeland but it wont be as easy as you might expect.
I'm hoping by some miracle NCC and augie play again but its going to be tough for them both to advance to the quarterfinals

Good Luck to NCC and Augie in the Playoffs. Hope to see a CCIW team on ESPN 2!

I know one should never look ahead, but there's an interesting match-up in Round 2 with Augie/MUC.   Lakeland and Mt St Joe will be nice warm up games both both teams.   Augie is an OT point from being the #1 seed in the North and MUC is an injuried WR from being the #1 seed.

IMHO, the winner of that game is going to the Stagg Bowl and here's my reasoning:

1.  Wabash is not a legit #1 seed, and should lose in the 2nd round to the NCC/Cap winner.

2.  NCC and Capital should be a great game, but both would have to beat the conference champ (MUC or Augie) on the road in the Regional Final to make it out of region.  Plus neither team has playoff experience to do so.  And if it's an all CCIW or all OAC final, then they'd have to beat a team they alread lost to.

3.  North region is paired with the East and when Orihel went down for Rowan, then East lost their only nationally competitive team.

I will say this, there's only one team in the entire tournament that scares me more than Augie, and they're the defending champs.

May the best team win and be healthy enough to make a run at the title!

The more I read about Capital, the more i'm convinced this is going to be one hell of a game this sat.

I'm praying for decent weather....right now forecast for 44 and party cloudy.

Anyone want to lend me $400 so I can fly up from Charlotte to see my alma mater's(Capital) first playoff game since 87?

Should be a great game.  I need to get near a computer so I can listen to it.  It should work out pretty good with the Cap-NCC game on at 11 eastern and OSU-Michigan at 1 eastern.

Should be an interesting game.

I guess Wabash shouldn't bother suiting up.  Why does the NCAA even invite teams from outside the OAC and CCIW to play in this region?

What's wrong, hscoach?  Pissed that you might actually have to travel to watch a Mount Union playoff game?

Wabash earned the #1 seed by being the only undefeated team in the region.  Had ANYBODY else in the region gone 10-0, they'd be #1.  Neither MUC or NCC could close the deal, and with that comes the price of having to travel in the playoffs.  To say that Wabash isn't a legit #1 seed is ridiculous.  Every other school in the region had their chance to get it, and didn't do it.

I think Wabash finds themselves as underdogs after the first round. MUC, NCC, Augie, and Cap probably get the nod over Wabash if you were to ask around at who would win such a game.  But that doesn't mean that they didn't earn that top seed and it certainly doesn't mean that Wabash is cooked.  The Little Giants will defend that home field...that much you count on.  Who knows, the top seed might actually surprise somebody along the way.

hscoach - 10-0 is 10-0. I think the potential second round matchup will be a heck of a game. I respect the CCIW and the OAC's ability to play football - can we have some mutual respect or is that too hard for you?

smedindy,

Just to qualify... hscoach is not a regular CCIW poster.  I think you'll find most CCIW posters do respect Wabash.  In fact many Wheaton alum keep a close eye on Wabash due to the Wheaton connection - Coach Neathery and preseason scrimmages.
