Back to the AD discussion I think that Greg Wallace did a fine job as the AD here at Augie....that being said the new AD Churck Gordon is a class A Jerk!  He has no respect for students, and when the Augie Center went down this year with a broken leg Chuck was more worried about keeping the Ambulance off of the field

So I am reading the IBFC postboard and I can't stop laughing at these straight faced Lakeland upset predictions. If it is an upset then I will eat my words, but they haven't won a playoff game since the expansion...

Augie 38
LC 14

You've only read like the last 5 predictions... the previous like 50 were all Augustana...

As for my prediction... I think it'll be within 2 scores... it could be 7-0 ... it could be 49-35... who knows... we'll all find out on Saturday.

uamusme,

I was only refering to the upset picks, I saw the other picks as well. I agree with the game being close at first, Augie's games always are, it is the second half when the score starts to expand. This team is a lot better than that Carthage game showed. I know people were picking Augie, just surprised by so many picking Lakeland.

I echo Cardinalalum in stating that Jim Miller was an outstanding hire as A.D. at NCC.

I am the only one who finds this board really annoying right now?

Vikes35,

Yeah, I understand, Lakeland's only real tests this year were against Carthage and UW-W.

Carthage went well minus the 4th quarter... Whitewater was close at half... no one knows really what happened in the second half... it was abismal.

To be honest with you I hope both teams are able to bring everything they have to both sides of the ball. I do hope Lakeland triumphs... but I know it's a very very slight possiblity. I just wanna see a good game, and either way win or lose Lakeland makes school history... so It's a good story for our paper.

vikes35

uamusme,

I will second that. I do hope that it is a good game, and I hope that LC gives a good fight. A good fight against a very tough Augie team will win respect from me that the IBFC plays tough football.

uamusme,

Good post.

Good luck to all the D3 teams playing this weekend and especially Augie and NC.  Represent our conference well.  I'm looking forward to watching the game at Benedetti
Augie 42  Lakeland 10
NC 24 Capital 17

As far as Athletic Directors...  I can only speak for Elmhurst Paul Krohn and I would credit Paul for the biggest turnaround in Elmhurst Sports (not just football).  Krohn's character and personality are so inviting that kids just love playing for him.  I know many people (me included) who were sold to come and play at Elmhurst upon speaking with Krohn.  :D
Has the IBFC playoff representative ever beat a CCIW representative?  And if yes, how recent?

Anybody check out the playoff capsules for each of the teams?
For Augie:
You'll know they're playing well if: Time of possession approaches the 35:00 mark.
You'll know they're playing poorly if: The Vikings are forced to throw more than five passes per game.
How far can they go? Is this the year Mount Union loses before the national semifinals? Augustana is probably the one team in the bracket that can do it.

For NCC:
You'll know they're playing well if: Quarterback Kam Kniss is finding his receivers and running back Steve Holden is getting positive yardage.
You'll know they're playing poorly if: Kniss is rushed from the pocket and there's no running game
How far can they go? The right kind of run could win this bracket, or at least reach regional finals.

For Lakeland:
You'll know they're playing well if: The defense is stopping the run and creating turnovers, and the offense is able to run.
You'll know they're playing poorly if: The offense, especially the rushing game, is stagnant, and the defense is giving up big gains on the ground.
How far can they go? Not very. But a good introduction to playoff football

27 hours to kickoff!!!

Good luck CCIW!

Jim Miller= Great AD, and nice guy..

Washedup,   Lets get some NCC talk then...What are your takes on the game tommorrow?  The game is at noon, so tailgating has to start @ 8:00 am.  Great day for Steak and Eggs.

Playoff football is tough to decipher because most CCIW posters have not seen Capital play and have no idea what to expect.  I do know this about NC, if Kam has roughly 4-5 seconds in the pocket, NC has a great chance of winning this game, no matter how good Capitals offense is.

Jaybird,

The IBFC has never won a playoff game.

Former,

From what I have heard, Cam will not have 4-5 seconds to throw.  Capital's strength defensively is speed and they get up the field quick.  They fly to the football.  I believe if Holden can get involved or Cam can run the football a little bit, it will help tremendously.  Still feel that the Cards pull this one out late. 21-17

I think the real battle on Saturday between NCC and Cap will be the NCC D v the Cap O.  The NCC defense has been very opportunistic all year (see Wheaton in particular).  The Crusaders (no, not Wheaton) have an quarterback that is very highly thought of in the OAC.  Here are his stats off the OAC website

PASSING         GP   Effic Att-Cmp-Int   Pct  Yds  TD Lng Avg/G
---------------------------------------------------------------
Rocky Pentello  10  143.72  348-231-9   66.4 2515  23  63 251.5

I think the powerful Cardinal offense versus the vaunted Crusader defense might be an interesting battle, but the key will be how the North Central defense steps up.

augiedogie,

We are leaving for Rock Island whenever you can get to my house, but no hurry.

26 hrs 25 mins til CCIW playoff action.

NCC v Capital

All the talk this week in this forum and in the OAC forum has been centered on the speed of the Capital defense and how they will get upfield and throttle the NCC offense.  But have they seen an offensive with the tools of NCC. Especially, can their LBs successfully cover Stuedemann and Holden.  Capital isn't as big as some of the CCIW teams so we'll see how fast they really are. NCC has a lot of weapons and defenses can never relax because the momentum can change quickly. Wheaton held them to 7 points in the first half, Carthage and Elmhurst had them on the ropes.

And, it's been pointed out that the NCC Def against the Cap Off will also be important. NCC has been opportunistic all season, turnovers have been a big factor. 25 interceptions is significant.

Special teams. Radtke has blocked two punts for TDs this season. You better know where he is lined up, because he has been close to several other kicks.  I wouldn't be surprised if a special teams play on either side was critical.

I'm expecting a close game for three quarters, then an explosion for a 20 point victory for NCC.

the answer is yes, they played a team from alliance ohio who happens to have the #1 offense in the country. it was 17-14 cap in the fourth when a few big plays hit and it got out of hand. they also played and beat ONU (a top 30 offensive team i believe) and beat them on their turf. so cap won't have any problem recognizing and adjusting to the speed and scheme of ncc. can they stop it? we will see. but ncc's "tools" won't be scaring anybody saturday.
