Interesting point jaybird.  However, no disrespect to Elmhurst, but the Mount has more talent and should pulling away be necessary for the Raiders they are more likely to be able to do so.  Not saying they will be able to do so, just saying they would have a better chance at pulling away than Elmhurst.

OU#25

From what I'm hearing this should be the best O'line Mount will face this year.  In turn this is the finest defense MUC has put on the field in a few years and I'm guessing the finest Augie will have seen in sometime.  With so much happening at the point of contact...I'm wondering about other intangibles such as Augie's special teams?  Mount always seems to excel in this area and I'm curious how Augie has faired in the kicking game and on coverage this season?

matblake,

I was actually the one who brought up the thing about the leads and I did it to make a different point. I was saying that Augie has not seen a big deficiet this year so it will be tough to gauge how they react if they face anything more than 7 pts. I realize that Elmhurst isn't Mount Union and in fact that was the point I was trying to make. If Augie gets down, who knows what will happen.

vikes,
I know that you started that thought.  It was a great point too.  I was merely reacting to jaybird's statement that Augie was unrelenting and did not let Elmhurst pull away.  Just kinda trying to point out my belief that Augie can't get behind big and expect to win.  I think we all agree on that.

Matt and Vikes, obviously (at this point in time)  Mt. Union is a stronger ballclub than Elmhurst and if Augie was to trail the Mount, it would be a more difficult comeback than Elmhurst
I look at three big stats as the determinant for Sat.  Mount vs. Augie game.
1) Turnovers  obviously you have to protect the ball
2) TOP- if Augie is able to hog the ball, watch out Mount
3) Points off Turnovers- which hurt the Cards last week.  You have to make teams pay for giving the ball away.

When you are talking about time of possession, remember that this is a Mount Union team that two weeks ago scored on the first play of five consecutive possessions. So please grind it out and keep Mount's offense rested. Seriously, this year's  team is quick and has a lot of varied talent and can hurt you in many ways. I'm looking forward to a great game

seventiesraider,

I would agree with us keeping the ball being bad based on those stats if it wasn't for the fact that that game was played against a Heidelberg team that went 0-10 the last two years and a combined 1-29 over the last 3 years. They gave up 60 pts+ 5 times this year and had a 53.0 points given up per game tally. I can guarantee that Augie has a much better defense than that. I know that your offense is impressive and that it can hurt teams in various ways (you guys don't have the rep you have for nothing) but I would think it better not to compare this game to the Heidelberg game. Now looking at the Capital game where you guys put up 42 on them impresses me much more. I don't know how those points were scored, but I know that our #2 NCC was only able to get 19 agaisnt them and they have a very potent offense (unfortunately we saw it in the rain so I am unable to say exactly how good NCC's offense really can be). I am not trying to disagree with your offense being good, I am just trying to make a better comparison.

Just making a point that this Mount team has the potential to be explosive. I'm fully aware how bad Hedielberg is, but still 5 TD's on 5 consecutive plays is an indicator of some proficiency.  :)

Since you mentioned the Capital game, Mount scored 3 TDs on 3 consecutive offensive plays to start the 4Q to put that game away. Unfortunately neither that nor any of Aug's stats are going to win this game.  Eat some turkey, get on the bus and let the best team win on Saturday.

jdean,

Thank you for the info about the Cap game. That shows me some major fire power. It has always been said that you guys have played tight throughout a game on many occasions and then feed off of mistakes late. For Augie's sake I hope we can stay away that meltdown.

Wish I could go down there to see the game and all the MUC faithful but I have a prior obligation and I have to go back to Augie the next day and will be unable to attend. Best of luck to all.

again Happy Thanksgiving to all.   This is one of my favorite holidays.  All day football, eating, relaxing with family, more football, a drink, etc.  and you don't have to work on Friday.
Hope everybody has a great day. ;D

Pat,

Just wondering if you have read the language being used by certain posters over on the IBFC board. I understand being passionate about something but some of the things on some of those posts are down right vulgar. I think that Soulsenda needs to calm down, he doesn't seem to be able to understand opinions outside of his own, and he comes back with some down right nasty replies. I don't know if I was the only one offended, but I know that I was.

zorbadagreek

Vikes35, I agree, soulsenda was pretty vulgar.  ???

On to football......Best wishes to Augie this weekend.  Here's hoping the Vikings go all the way!!  Should be a great game.  Wish I could be there.  Unfortunately, the Cardinals losing makes me go away to the in-laws for the weekend.  The only thing that would have gotten me out of it was a trip to Wabash for a 2nd round NCC game.  Oh well. :(

I hadn't until you posted about it here. Don't wander through the IBFC as often in their offseason. Thanks for the heads-up, although there's also a report to moderator button on each post that would have gotten my attention faster.
