yeah, they only wanted 59 yds of offense in the 2nd half because they didn't want us to feel too bad. I am sure w 6 minutes to go in the third in a 21-7 game and wheaton on the augie 10 yd line going in that barnes felt they were in complete control.  :o

Given how poorly Wheaton's offense was playing I can see using "a bit" more conservative play calling from the coaching staff.  But to imply running backs didn't run the same way or as hard is truly ridiculous or stupid if true.

As you say with the score 21-7 with Wheaton inside the 10 yard line to cut the lead to 7... the game was far from over (until the interception of course).  It is very dangerous to switch your mindset to "coast" to the finish.  That is how a team loses a lead in a hurry.  If Wheaton had the smallest fraction of offense they had in past years or if they stuck to running the ball, it was a tight game.

But I digress... the game has long been over.

augie hasn't faced anyone as good as mt union on either side of the ball. they will have to play pretty well over in alliance if they want to keep it close. as i have said, i hope they win, but suspect they will be in for a long day.

I'm disappointed, USEE. I thought you looked forward to your trip to Alliance. You're letting a little thing like no Wheaton prevent you from coming?

Hey Augie fans! Thought I'd stop by and say Good Luck Saturday against the Raiders. Just curious but who's going to cover Casto and Garcon? I hope you have someone with a lot of speed...make that a few people with a lot of speed.

I agree with you in your comments about what vikes says one of the players told him (about players not going as hard irrespective of the decision to go with a more conservative game plan toward the end of a game when ahead).  However, I would go one step further and submit that aside from the technical aspect of the game itself i.e. losing the lead, etc.,  doing that is even more dangerous because that's when injuries tend to occur.

jdean-i actually thought about coming to see augie play because i let people like hscoach fool me into thinking the cciw had a chance this year. having examined many of the facts and seen many of the particiants in action, i have since come to my senses. I also realized this after replaying the movie from each of the last 3 years in my head. its a long trip for a bad movie.

i will be listening in though..........

Some of us liked the ending more than others. I have the '99 game rerunning in my mind so I'm hesitant to predict victory. The forecast for tomorrow is a 5-10 MPH wind and cloudy, which should be perfect for our passing game but I still expect a battle.

Yeah... I can see the coaches calling a more conservative game, I can see running backs avoid running out of bounds to keep the clock moving... but you can't tell me the o-linemen blocked with any less intensity.  You can't tell me the running backs just coasted.   Or maybe they can say that and it would explain the let down against Lakeland.

Regardless... I'm wishing Augie all the best against Mount Union (and hopefully beyond) as the last CCIW representative.  They are the CCIW champs and I hope they show everyone tomorrow why.  Do me a favor... if you get up on Mount Union, DO NOT coast to the finish.  Put them away!

Somehow I have trouble imagining ANYONE trying to coast against the Mount!

Maybe, just MAYBE, if up 35 with 3 minutes left!

I'd have to agree with you on that Mr. Ypsi! ;D
