Did you notice the sequence ... Akron gets a 1st down, 18 seconds on the clock. They move the chains, Akron snaps the ball, spikes it, 17 seconds on the clock. I'm sure you remember that took 5 seconds in the NCC-Capital game. ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, that was gross as well.  So much for home field advantage.

I'm doing fine my friend (except for being disappointed as to how Hope fared this season!).  I hope you are doing well also.  Thanks for sharing about your ties to NIU.  I know what you mean about them "not being on the map" back then so to speak.  My wife's nephew was a four year starter there and played on their MAC/California Bowl championship team his senior year back in the mid-'80's.  A great season that was for them.  I always liked that, coupled with Eastern Michigan's same scenario in winning the MAC and going to the California Bowl about 4 years later, because it "threw it right back in the faces" of all those naysayers at the other MAC schools who were trying to kick both NIU and Eastern out of the league.  Eastern and NIU sure had the last laugh, or rather satisfaction.  Like those old cliches go...1) "what goes around, comes around" and 2) "...Don't throw stones". :P ;)

Anyway, as I mentioned on one of the other boards, I'm seriously thinking about going to the Stagg again this year (went last year and it was great, including the weather).  However, I'm having second thoughts if this stays as cold and snowy as it is.  I might then wimp out and go to the Motor City Bowl, where it is indoors. ;D  Talk to you later.

Formerd3db,  glad things are going well and I feel the same way with Elmhurst.  We ended up 6-4 but could have easily been 8-2 if things may have bounced a different way.
I know how you feel with regards to the weather.   We play hockey outside (just across the RR tracks from Elmhurst College) and will play for hours at a time, while some of the "older" guys can't stay out that long, due to the temps.
I have never been to the Stagg Bowl.  I am looking at my work schedules to see if I can arrange  space for me to go there.
Anybody else think there are too many bowls and that D-1 should go to a playoff format like all the other divisions?  I know a playoff in D-1 probably will never happen b/c of the corporate sponsorships and $$$$ , but I think the BCS is horrible and stands for something else.  ;D

Have we received any more word as to who is going to replace Robin Cooper at North Park?

Wow, hockey!  I never could skate well.  On the other hand, if a bunch of "older guys" are getting out there for the fun of it, even if only for a short time span, guess I could do it!

I'm undecided about the Stagg.  If I go, I drive.  You'll probably want to fly.  But just throwing this out there as a wild scheme - one of our D3 colleagues in KY might go and if you could make it from Chicago somehow to say Toledo (or more south in Ohio if he decides to go along with me  I could pick you up too!  Several of us had desired to put a group together and travel together, but everyone is bailing out now.  Anyway, there is still time to think about it and I can always cancel at the "last minute" ;D

BTW, I must have missed it, but what's the story on Cooper at NPU?  Did he leave?

Rumor is Mike Holmgren.  It was told to me by myself and then I repeated it to my arm.  I think it is a pretty reliable source.

I think NP needs to put some emphasis on recruiting on outside of Chicago and look further west.  They have a nice complex now and could wow some small town kids into playing in a good conference and living in the city.

I like the look of your proposed Carthage Helmet logo design! I think the players would like it as well. Can you e-mail me a larger picture so I can see the details clearer? Thanks

I think that Carthage's Offense will be much improved and surprise some people.  That O'boyle kid really came around and I was very impressed with how much he improved from the NCC game (his first start I think?)
.
Zorbadagreek:
I agree that Carthage will have a solid offense next season with virtually all starters returning. You could see by their performance that they were beginning to hit stride late in the season putting up 40+ points in the last two games and finnally producing some long distance scores. Believe it or not the offense this year scored more points than they did in the magical 2004 campaign. Defensive scoring fell far short from the contribution in 2004. O'boyle opened the season at Carroll College as the starter. He also started and played the first half of the Lakeland game before Sharp relieved him in the second half and led the Redmen on a come-from-behind victory. Sharp then started at Benedictine, Milikin and Augustana. After Sharp injured his knee in the Augustana game, O'boyle went back to the starting roll at NCC and ran the offense the rest of the season. He developed well and showed improvement each week. He is a real athletic kid and the Coaching staff thinks very highly of him as someone who will become a very special QB in the CCIW before his career is over

I'm thinking Dick Butkus might be willing to take a promotion from coaching High School football in Pittsburgh. If you've ever seen a little of "Bound for Glory" on ESPN maybe Butkus at NP would make an interesting sequel? ;D

Formerd3db-  I would be a definite "IN"  to go with a group of guys as a caravan to the Stagg Bowl.  I'm in Mt. Prospect,  a NW suburb of Chicago about 30 minutes from O'Hare and 3-5 hours from Grand Rapids.  As the Stagg approaches, let me know b/c I would be in.
As far as North Park and Coaching, yes Robin Cooper will not be back.  I can't confirm if he resigned or was let go, either way Robin is a great guy and a great coach.  We have had some great talks together over the years.
AugieDogie, I was thinking Ditka also, but didn't post it.  Could you imagine of Ditka, Holmgren, or somebody famous was roaming the sidelines at a CCIW school?
I think an Assistant at either a CCIW school and/or other D3 school is going to step up at NPU.  He's going to have his hands full.
I'm watching the Army/Navy game ( one of my favorite games of the year, especially the end when they play the losing team's alma mater, followed by the winning teams alma mater) and saw UW Whitewater is up 10-7 over Linfield.   Let's pull for a Midwest victory.

Very close game between Mt. Union and Capital today, with Mt. Union just pulling it out.

Congrats to UW-Whitewater on a HUGE win over the defending champs Linfield. Its nice to see a team from around here go all the way out west and win a big one. Hope to see UW-Whitewater in ESPN2.

Tailgater-
Nice to hear from you again. Also a small correction about O'Boyle is that he didnt start the first game aganist Carroll. He was put in on the 3rd or 4th drive because Sharp started the game 0-8 or 0-9. Just a small correction for ya  :)
