Yes, additional very important points, and unfortunately the $ issue is an unavoidable dilemma in the decision process.

formerd3db and MattBlake-- great points and very true.  The intimidation of "Can I play"  "Will I fit in"  "Am I big enough"  All come into play and were questions I had to answer before talking to Paul Krohn at Elmhurst.

I think the money issue is going to become more of an obstacle the way the tuitions are going. I know of several players interested in attending DIII schools. Their parents are middle class and probably make too much money to qualify for any type of financial aid or grants except for the ever popular loans!

It's a shame that some moron that couldn't spell his name unless it was on the back of his jersey gets a free ride to play football at a DI school and "to hell" with an education. He walks away after his junior year to make millions and thumbs his nose at everyone he leaves behind. I'm certainly not saying all DI players fall into this persona but I think it's getting to be more and more prevalent as the salaries continue to rise without a ceiling in sight. It should be stipulated by the NCAA and DI programs that any DI player that signs an NFL contract and makes an NFL roster should be obligated to pay back a minimum of half of his scholarship money. The NFL minimum has to be over $300,000/year.

DIII caliber kids continue to play and attend DIII schools for all the right reasons - for the love of the game and to actually get an education. Yet knowing when it is all over, they will be saddled with debt for the next 10-15 years.

Think any of them would change their minds?

True dat! I know that when they said that I would do loans, I gave no though to the fact I would be paying them till I was 50.   Like most 18 year old kids I just wanted to play and could care less about money in the future.  As far as the tuition goes I found that all the schools that were recruiting me, worked hard to get me as much financial aid as possible.  However, the tuition was still high, but considerably less than it would be with no financial aid.  Thank god for good parents who cared about my future!

Ok, I'll start up a discussion for you.  What high schools do you think CCIW coaches should be camped out on the first day of recruiting?  Glenbard North(Radtke, Earnest, Brogan, Brady, Evans and others) is a solid choice.  Naperville Central(Both Spencers, Both Tumiltys and others) is a can't miss.  What are some of the others?

I may be a bit biased being an alum of Wheaton North, but Wheaton College has a number of key players on the roster each year from Wheaton North and Wheaton Warrenville South - although South has been the much higher quality program over the past decade.

Mugsy I can't pinpoint schools as much as conferences:  DVC, MSL, CSL, and the Catholic League.  Out of the DVC, your Wheaton Warrenvilles, Glenbards and Addison Trail, out of the MSL  Fremd, Barrington, Hersey, Prospect
CSL New Trier, Evanston, Glenbrooks  Maine's
Catholic League... Most of the stronger Catholic Football Programs
Irish21-Did Carthage lock up the running back we were discussing earlier?  That would be a huge pickup for the Redmen.

Does anyone think that a particular style of offense has an advantage in recruiting?

Here's my thought. Augie, because of the offense they run have more specific needs on the offensive side of the ball.  This could potentially take some good offensive athletes such as a speedy wide receiver or a pass catching (poor blocking) tight end off the recruiting board.  This might make it easier to focus on what they do need.

That being said, good athletes usually play both ways in high school and those athletes might be used for their defensive prowess.

Other thoughts?

If I were Augie I would check out the Lincoln-way East team who won the 8A Championship, who runs the wing-T with the focus on the passing game.  They were the team that knocked off our Wheaton Warrenville South team.  They have great players everywhere.  Wheaton is now competing with North Central for the WWS players.   They need to get the inside track again since they dont get many Il players outside of Wheaton.

I'm not going to rehash this topic extensively, as it has been done many, many times before.  I don't think Wheaton competes directly with many of the CCIW schools for local recruits.  Wheaton gets a large percentage of recruits from all over the country.  While there are a few recruits who would be looked at by both Wheaton and NCC, but it isn't extensive.

If you look at the hometowns of Wheaton players you will see Texas, California, Virginia, etc. all across the nation, due to some specific attributes associated with Wheaton College.  I think Elmhurst, Carthage, IWU, and Millikin compete more with NC for Wheaton/DuPage Co. recruits.
One point with recruiting.  I know there are many kids that say EC/NC/Wheaton  are too close to home  for their preferences.  Ex. York has a decent football team, but EC gets 1-2 York Grads a year.
Offensive schemes-- I think good football players can learn to adapt any system.  A smart, sound football player will learn the plays, repeat them in practice until they become second nature, then displays it during the games.  I went through 3 offensive changes in 4 years and you sometimes have to learn on the fly.

Go back to page 3 for a break down of 2005 Wheaton recruits by state.  Illinois is first, but not by much.  Texas, California, Penn. are all close behind.

Irish21-- I hope ( and that is for the CCIW's sake not for arch rivals sake  ;D  )  that Carthage can lock him up.  I remember watching him when they came to Prospect and what potential!
