With the CCIW dominating WIAC teams in this past weekend's NCAA Division III basketball tournament, maybe those schools might think about getting some backbone and agreeing to play WIAC football teams in nonconference action. If not, then at least give us an explanation why you refuse.  It is getting assinine why schools in the Midwest, especially the CCIW, simply refuse to play WIAC teams other than an occasional game vs. Platteville.  If someone knows, give us a holler!

I think you are correct there should be more games between the CCIW and WIAC,Especially Carthage. being in Wisc they should make a point to play a WIAc team every year.

Voice, I think you make some good points about the WIAC and it's relations with the CCIW, however  I think there is some clarity issues here.  Augie has played UW Stevens Point, IWU played UW Eau Claire, Elmhurst (scrimmages) against UW OshKosh, and usually at least 1 possibly 2 CCIW teams play a WIAC School each year.
I don't think the CCIW schools are "scared" of the WIAC.  Many times it becomes logistics and if they can fit the game in their schedules.  I know in Elmhurst's case,  we played Alma and Ripon as our longer road trips.  This year we are going out to Olivet with the other 2 non conf. games being in the Chicagoland Area.  For Millikin to schedule a game against UW Eau Claire, that would be a long road trip.
2 great conferences, with great football powerhouses, yet only 3 = 24  possible game matchups for non conference.
The last point is the CCIW's stronger teams in recent history haven't played creampuffs.  Augie always fills their slots with strong opponents, Wheaton has filled in tough teams, NC (recently) has improved the level of their non conf. teams, IWU usually has at least 1, etc.

CaptKurt:
You might recall that there has actually been some discussion at the NCAA in recent years about that possibility i.e. another NCAA division for small college football, for the smallest of the DIII schools (basically splitting DIII into two divisions).  Webmaster Pat had an article on that in the past - as I recall, it was in one of the Stagg Bowl programs.  On the other hand, how many splits are too much (for a variety of reasons)?  ???

Redmen04...Dr. Campbell told me a few years ago at a baseball game that he doesn't like the Redmen to play any of the UW-anywheres. He felt that the WIAC teams can attract more athletes because of the low cost of in-state tuition versus the cost of going to Carthage. He felt that was an unfair advantage.

This might be true.  It has to be, especially if you majored in economics or math.  I can't see why anyone would go to a CCIW school and pay all of that money, when you can get away with going to a WIAC school for 1/3 of the price.  That just makes too much sense to me, and that's why I went to a WIAC school.  Is the education that much better?

State schools are always competing vs. private schools for talent.  Eastern, Western, Southern, NIU, ISU, etc. are all trying to entice prospects with attractive packages yet the CCIW always seems to get quality players.  In fact, there are usually a good handful of transfers who come to play in the CCIW, after being disappointed by larger state schools.  I think it all depends on the individual.  I like what the CCIW stands for and what it has to offer.
It's been awhile but is there any news from Cardinal Country about Spencer's eligibility?

CaptainKurt:

People outside of Wisconsin don't get the lower tuition costs so that is why I chose not to go to a WIAC school instead of the CCIW. The CCIW is also known for more than just athletic teams. Their quality of academics is another reason people would choose to attent a CCIW institution. CCIW schooling looks great on a resume.

I have to agree that the CCIW education is better than a WIAC school. I am not saying that the education that WIAC schools give to their students is bad, but the schools in the CCIW do not have the reputation they have for nothing. When I was applying to schools the main reason I went to Augie over other options was because I knew that I was going to get the best education here. Plus when I go home and talk to people in the professional world they hold me in high regard when I tell them that I go to Augie, and automatically give me credit for being able to academically perform at such a tough institution. I am sure that many of the other the CCIW posters (most grads) would agree with the fact that their education has given them many opportunities that might not have been available if they had gone to other schools. The WIAC is very good in the athletic area, I have seen their schools play Augie tough every year, but I would have to say that the CCIW has an edge academically, hands down.

Also Augiedogie makes a good point, the reason I avoided Univ. of Iowa was because of out-of-state tuition, and anyone outside WI would do the same for the WIAC schools most likely. Plus the tuition is high in the CCIW, but being private schools also brings into the equation more financial aid. Most people who go to a CCIW school are not paying full tuition, they are on schloarships and grants because of their grades, and that also is a strong reason for a smart student to choose a CCIW school over a WIAC school if they are outside WI.

I agree with the posters before that also have said that many of the CCIW schools have already set schedules to play against non-conference rivals, and they stick to those, which IMO is very nice to see. If we could get more CCIW-WIAC matchups that would be great, but there are many reasons, outside being scared that this does not happen.

Augie's schedule came out today and I see that we are going to be playing Baldwin-Wallace out of the OAC. We CCIWer's were talking about seeing more matchups of the two conferences and I guess Augie has stepped up to the plate to play one of their teams. I understand that it is not the strongest of the OAC teams, but it is 2 tough conferences seeing each other in the regular season, which is nice to see. Augie plays one WIAC and one OAC team, once again playing a tough non-conf to get ready for what should be another tough CCIW season.

I would have to agree w/ auggii2000, I myself went to Carthage and found it pretty easy to pass my classes. On top of that I got in w/ under a 2.0 gpa. Go Redmen!!! ;)

I would also like to thank the karma fairy(ies). Hopefully I can get back in the positive before the season starts!! ;D
