An odd stat:

Augie football was 11th in the nation going into the playoffs and ended the season ranked 13th.

Augie bball went into the tournament ranked 13th and ended up 11th.

Going into both seasons if anybody would have said that Augie would have won both the football and basketball conference I probably would have laughed seeing that Wheaton and IWU were the favorites in football and basketball respectively.

Ruffnuts will just have to understand he was just a phase, Jonsey was mine first and is again.  Don't tell.
We will always be REDMEN

Make sure you tell Jonsie that Eggert said that Roberts told him that Michaels said he should do it.  Also Smitty told Johnson that Robinson said hi.

Jaybird:

Here's one for you.

Who is the only team in the CCIW to have a winning record against Augustana?

vikes35

C'mon Augiedogie, give the guy a challenge like what is Augie's record against the Univ. of Iowa (which is not good to leave numbers out of it). The only team that has a winning record against Augie would only take somebody 5 mins to find. I have all confidence that in time that trivia question will change, hopefully as soon as possible, and no team in the CCIW has a winning record against the Vikings.

Jaybird,

I have all confidence that you will find the answer and that you will be surprised very little when thinking about the history of CCIW football.

One last point:

Very impressive to see Augie finish 1st in both the CCIW football and basketball regular seasons. I agree with augiedogie that I most certainly would have laughed had someone told me that in August or September. Nice job for the 2005-2006 Augie teams. Didn't see any of the b-ball games but the heart of the football team showed exactly what Augustana athletics should be about. They weren't the most talented team in the CCIW (NCC had to take that honor) but they played like a team all year and the results were great. Hopefully the 2006 Vikings play with that much heart, no matter what their record ends up being.

Vikes35  that would be Ill. Wesleyan  and it's funny you ask me that.
During our broadcasts at the conclusion of the 1st quarter, we have the Elmhurst College Trivia Question. One game when we were playing IWU, that was one of my questions.
Augie has a winning record ( and in most series a dominant record), versus all the others.
I haven't checked recently, but I think Augie is catching up to breaking even.

IWU 38, Augie 32, 1 tie. The Vikes have won 19 of the last 25. With the football and basketball seasons done and no recruiting news to speak of, I'm really reaching for stuff to post about.

We could take a poll as to where the Cubs will end up this year or we could ask Janet Jones Gretzky for "tips".  :P
I'm a die hard Cubs fan and there is not going to be much to cheer for at Wrigley this year.  Hockey-- well uh, Wirtz says it all right there.... how soon till football starts? ;D

Yes, I guess we all are!  However, that's okay.  The off-season always provides an interesting venue of tangential topics to discuss related to fb (or whatever sport). :) Always good for a few laughs too ;D.  Remember, we also now have those other boards to skim once in awhile (i.e. DIII lacrosse, baseball, etc.).

I love baseball and, like Jaybird, I'm a diehard Cub fans. I can't say I could really contribute much to the Lacrosse boards though. :)

Me neither, but I am getting into it a "little bit".  Am taking up the sport (the "old man's" league of course! ;D) which I always wanted to do in college but couldn't because of course load in the spring after fb season was done.

Jaybird,

I think you are being a little hard on the Cubs for them not playing a game yet this year. I think it is time that us Cub fans stop worriying about Prior and Wood because the team that is around the pitching this year is solid and the bullpen should improve compared to last year. I think that they have a legit chance to win the division, and if Prior and Wood are healthy that chance gets even better (but that is enough baseball on the football board for me).

As for LAX formerd3db is right; it is one heck of a sport. Augie has a club team and there are about 50-100 people at most games and we really do give them a nice little Augie home crowd (which everyone knows can help with the football games). The sport is extremely fun to watch and really has all the action of hockey but in all honesty a little more voilence.

Thanks.  That is great to hear about Augie LAX; sounds about like Hope as well.  Please keep us posted on the LAX boards.

Vikes35 true, the regular season hasn't started yet and each team has a good shot.  I just didn't see them make enough "legitimate" moves during the off season to keep up with St. Louis/Houston, who have been dominant of late.  Pierre was a good pickup.
You go out east and the MILL  ( Major Indoor Lacrosse League) is a major sporting event.  They draw nice crowds and have truck horns when they score, etc.  Pretty exciting.
I saw Notre Dame is getting into the Spring Fling.  I am not a big fan of ND, but they look like they could be very scary next year.  Weiss has them heading in the right direction.
