That would be former President Richard Nixon I believe.  Was he on the football team, at least for a year or so, as I recall?

Thanks irish21!  I don't want to start a "crazy trend" here, but here is a quick historical trivia question for you as well.  Who was the former Alma College head coach (and former player for Amos Alonzo Stagg), who put Wabash College "on the map" and then took over Notre Dame who then scheduled Alma for 4 straight years?

Thanks jaybird.  I, too, hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend with family and friends.

That person, former D3, would be Jess Harper, who also was claimed to have much to do with inventing the forward pass (I coached at 'Bash in the mid 80's).  Jess Harper also was influential in the name "Little Giants", coined by a sports reporter in the midwest, who, after seeing Wabash defeat Indiana, N.D., and I believe Wisconsin, called them "the Little Giant killers of the Midwest".  The name appropriately, stuck!  And may I say in all due honesty, DEPAUW TO HELL, WE'LL WIN THE BELL!"  Once a Little Giant, always a Little Giant!  Great schools, great rivalry!

"WVunderbar!"  You get a karma for that!  I'm glad to see that as a former 'Bash coach, you took the time to learn some of the great fb history there.  IMO, unfortunately, not everyone does that, which I think they should (I did!).  Yes Jesse Harper's, who coached at Alma College in for two years (10-7 and 1908) before going to Wabash for 4 first ND team (1913, in which he also coached the legendary Knute Rockne as a senior) used the forward pass against Alma College a week or two before ND used it against Army.  Of course, the national sportswriters promoted the latter and it erroneously evolved that the ND/Army game was where it was used first- however, most people don't know about the Alma game.

BTW, Alma played ND four straight years (1913-1916) during Harper's tenure, losing by a combined score of 144-0.  As a result, those Alma teams became known as the "Suicide Squads"!  They did play Michigan State those four same years, opening up with them each season the week before the ND games, and did manage to beat MSU in 1916!

Anyway, it indeed is great to read about these historical aspects.  Thanks for sharing your knowledge and playing "the trivia game"!

Sorry, my bad i.e. typo's clarification (Harper's Alma years were 1907 and 1908)!

Ok, here's another one.  Unfortunately, the answerer will only get pseudo-karma because of my post total (only 37 more to go!).  Which current DIII school was John Belushi going to attend to play football?

zorbadagreek

Belushi was going to Illinois Wesleyan to play ball, but was not accepted. He then attended UW Whitewater where he failed out. He didnt actually play anywhere. ;D

Since we're on the trivia topic I will throw in some doozies

A) Which mlb brother tandem ( could be 2,3, or 4 brothers)  account for more home runs than any other?
B) Which US city's sports teams ( hint nfl, nhl, mlb) all wear the same colored jerseys?
C) Which 5 mlb teams have never changed their base home jerseys?
D) Which NCAA Schools have won a Nat'l Champ. in both football and basketball?
E) Name the 4 LA Dodgers ( 1970 decade, not sure on which year)  with 30 or more home runs

For question D) are we talking all divisions?  Also, are we talking basketball title period, or is it limited to Men's basketball championships?

For all divisions, men only, I have UCLA, Michigan, Florida, Ohio State, Maryland, and Wittenberg.  Should I keep looking?  If so, how many am I missing?

Edit:  Ooops, I forgot Michigan State!

Add Southern Cal, North Dakota State, Grand Valley State, Tennessee, and Texas if you want to include the women.
