Irish21  1996 is the definitely the year.  I was on the JV @Prospect and recall seeing our Varsity getting hammered by Fremd with a great QB, RB, and defense.
My Cousin was there when Tim was the QB  and was good friends with his Sister Brooke.
To this day, I would still consider Fremd to be a strong football school, moreso than the average hs football team.  At Prospect, it was our dream just to have a winning season 1994-1998, and now 3 State  Championships?  Never in our right minds would we have thought this.

Does anyone know what team has the most DVC players on their team?

irish21

JB...you got me thinking. One of the standouts on defense for us on the 1996 team was Jeff Heinzl. He went on to Illinois Wesleyan and was an All American defensive end.

Irish21,  I recognize that name... course on defense there were a lot of names that were frequently called against us.   :P
Was he in the 90's jersey number?

JB...Heinzl was 88, Matt Hughes was 87,  Kent Bellgrau was 76, Tommy Origer was 65 and Roger Stojsic was 70. We have never had the numbers 90-99.

PS. My memory isn't that good! I just happened to find the team photo!!

Irish21,  wow!  I can't tell you all the numbers of my own hs team.
It is most likely Heinzl  I don't recognize the other names on this list.
Palatine was also very strong at that time, I recall their running back was Bubba Mariani who I think was involved with Carthage.  That was a strange story with Bubba, something where he was going to play or was recruited, but never actually played did he?

Bubba started at Indiana State, left during doubles and enrolled at Carthage in the winter semester. He played one season of baseball and never played football. I think he ended up playing at St. Francis in Joliet.

Fastest white kid I ever saw until Tom Zbikowski.

Seems to me that Wheaton would have to have the least amount of DVC players on the team, but I'm checking the numbers.

Irish21-  Frank "bubba" Mariani III was indeed lightning quick and when we broke free, nobody was going to catch him.  Needless to say us Knights of Prospect sure as heck didn't.  I think we lost 42-0 and 35-3 in the two years we played Bubba's Palatine Teams.
I was looking back through my programs (I keep each one that I receive in the booth), and the 2001 Carthage Program has Patrick's picture at QB.  I find it fun to go back through the books and relive.

Did you forget the one in your own house?  ;)

Alum...my own was pretty fast. Bubba and Zibby were real fast!

You must need an exotic sounding nickname to be "real fast!!"

I clicked on the Carthage link. I noticed that they got a mount union transfer. I went to the Mount Union football site and couldnt find the kid. Did he play at Mount Union at all?? Maybe someone can shed some light. According to the kids bio, Rucks seems to think that he'll help right away. :-\

The Redmen got four outstanding players from Fremd in Cleo Walker, Jeff Koeneman, Matt Zamin and Joe Busse. I watched them all develop into outstanding high school players. I feel they will all contribute to the Carthage program.

Cleo will remind Redmen fans of Randal Baker.

Am i wrong to assume that Carthage may have one of the best secondaries in the conference next season? They have Moore and Linn, Shenault and the db's that are coming in, plus the tranfer from MU. I think they will be pretty deep next year. What do the front 7 look like? I know they lost a lot of bodies that contributed heavily in the past. 8)
