looks like a very solid class for North Central. Along with the others already mentioned, Marini from Freeport Aquin is a HECK of a player, the wenger kid from dakota isn't bad either.

Upstate Illini representing!  ;D

Looking at NCC, they do have a solid class. 3 standouts are the Sulo Bros. and the kid from Argo. :o

I've seen the Sulo brothers play and thats a great pick up for the cards. Kid from Argo?

Tim Janecek from Argo is a solid OL prospect.   I agree that Wenger from Dakota is a top recruit as well! They are both playing in the the All-Star game in Peoria in July.

Hey Matblake:

To answer your question from a few pages back, Hoffman is 8A.  All the MSL West schools are 8A while the MSL East schools are 7A.

Not all the MSL West schools are 8A. Hoffman's enrollment would put them in 7A. The conference was realigned from North and South to 211 plus Barrington (West) and 214 (East) for the 1999 football season. The 214's thought they were getting dominated by the 211's and a couple threatened to switch to the Suburban Prairie League. So the entire MSL was realigned and the bigger schools were put in the West and the smaller schools were put in the East.

But the football pairings are based on enrollment and Hoffman at 2,360 football enrollment would have been 7A in 2005. Hoffman is the smallest of the 211 schools.

Thanks for the clarification Irish.  I'm surprised that Hoffman's student population is small enough to put them at 7A.

Here's an interesting quote from Pleasant Grove (AL) HS football coach Jim Elgin in a story on Birmingham-Southern's move to D3.

http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/index.ssf?/base/sports/1148721478153180.xml&coll=2

Elgin said some of the Division III football powers, such as Augustana and Mount Union, are schools with 17,000 to 18,000 students. "It doesn't cost that much to go to those schools, either," he said.

Think maybe Coach Elgin needs to do some research?

LOL, yes more like 1,800 students and 28,000 tution... maybe he got confused and read 28,000 students and 1,800 tution... wouldn't that be great for the CCIW

Nice catch dansand.  I just graduated in a class of 525 from Augie, we must have brought in one heck of a freshman class (like 15,000).  I would say that Mr. Elgin definitely needs to do some research. I don't even think the UW(insert name here) schools have that many students.

Also I saw a couple of the practices this spring and with McGinnis at QB we might open up the playbook a little more in 2006 (but that might be a big if with Augie).

Augie passing more? :o
They did attempt a few passes late in the game vs. Elmhurst this year.  The year before (2004) they didn't attempt any passes.
I am pleased to see they are incorporating more passes into their gameplan.  That run, run, run etc.  while it is Augie's bread and butter, is a boring game to call on the air.

They did recruit a kid, Peter Rasmussen, that caught 93 passes last year according to the Rockford Register Star. :o  ???

From what I had been told McGinnis has a fairly good arm so if Augie wanted to they should be able to put more passing into the offense, but lets also remember that these were spring practices and a lot could change before the regular season.  I was just throwing out an observation. If they were going to throw I think McGinnis would be the guy who could do it.

I still think that having a passer that can be consistent on 3 to 10 throws a game is what makes the offense at Augie so tricky.  It is difficult for anybody to have any sort of rhythm with so few throws, even if you are not the best passer anyway.  However, if you can complete say 4 passes, they could be big plays.  I know that King (sorry, can't remember his first name) did that to Wheaton several times.
