They sort of remind me of my beloved Packers. A heck of a QB and not alot of help.

Packers fan, huh?  ::)  Well, that explains a lot.  The Packers USED to have a heck of a QB.  He is done.  I'm sure you are able to analyze what NCC's season is going to bring by watching one game!  That does it, I'm turning in all of my passes and skipping homecoming.  Uncledudley said it will be a long season, so it must be true!

c'mon folks, it's only 1 week of the year and the CCIW portion of the schedule is all that matters.
I recall Augie stumbled out of the gate and we know they ended up winning the Conf. and marched into the 2nd round of the playoffs.
Uncle Dudley-- it is hard to repeat the season NC had last year.  9-1 and barely missing the 2nd round of the playoffs, is the farthest NC has ever gone.  I think NC (as with most teams) just need to gel and things will fall into place.

I was at the Augie game and it was tough to watch from an offensive perspective.  The defense played very well and did enough to give them a chance to win.  However, turning the ball over twice deep in your own territory in the 4th quarter will not get it done.  Augie's QB made several huge mistakes in the 4th quarter, two poor pitches (one which BW recovered and one which resulted in a big loss when they were driving) and a very poor throw which was was intercepted and returned to the Augie 12.

BW really came to play and was getting after it the entire game.  Augie's offense came out flat and stayed there.  Very little excitement or emotion shown by any of the players on Offense.  I also thought the play calling was questionable, way too much option with very little success (both of the fumbled pitches were on option plays).  One of the things we all noticed is that Augie doesn't seem to have great speed with any of their backs.  All have decent speed, but they don't seem to have the one or two guys who can break the big runs like we have in the past.  Hopefully, they can get back on track next week in Wisconsin against Platteville.

Mr. Tini

North Central did look a little flat for their first game.  However, you need to give credit where it's due.  CUW is a very good team.  They have a very large offensive line who, for the most part, controled the line of scrimmage against a good NCC defensive line.  They also seemed to control the line of scrimmage on the deffensive side of the ball.  I had expected NCC to be able to run the ball a little better than they did but at the same time there was just no push from the O-Line.  Kniss played well and he should have a good season, but he needs some help.  CUW's secondary is so-so and the wide recievers need to get open.  They got better in the second half and engineered a very exciting come back.  The short passing game was unstoppable for NCC so I was glad to see it play out the way it did.  I would have liked to see both teams simply stick to what they are good at and we could have seen where they really stood.  It was a great game to watch between two very good teams, and even though I was happy to see CUW pull out the victory I look forward to seeing how the Cards perform the rest of the year.  I would expect both teams to have a good year.

what ya know north central is one vote behind CUW...CUW actually got less votes this week....does the CCIW now suck that bad that someone that goes double OT with an elite team from them now deserve less respect...CUW better team PERIOD...or am I wrong that going into a top 25 teams house and winning deserves less respect

BluPhi35

good morning fellas

so i was wrong with the balanced passing attack, but why throw the ball when you're having huge success running.  i mentioned that they would have 2-3 run schemes with a few formations.

CardsAlum, you went to the game, how many formations did they run other than the single- wing and double wing.

CardAlum

Not too many.  They were a very typical Wing-T team, which is why I was suprised when you said that they threw the ball equally as they ran it.  It looked much like the offense that we ran at NCC back in the day.  The guys on the radio kept calling CUW's most effective play a reverse dive, but it is actually a counter trap to the wingback.

BP35,

I did.  Way back when we wore leather helmets!   ;D  Well, not quite that far back, but I played at NCC in the late 80's.

CUW doesn't really run "different formations". The base formation was a modified Wing T with one wide receiver. Most of the second quarter, they ran with two TEs. They had a couple different types of motion but none of it was very complicated. When they came out with two TEs, they never ran a pass. So, as an ex-LB, it was frustrating to when after a dozen plays with two TEs, they come out with two WRs, call one run, and then throw a pass for a TD. The DBs should have been expecting pass plays.

CUW did a great job of taking Kniss out on the QB option. He made one run for positive yardage, all other times he was forced to pitch the ball. That's not bad, except Kniss has always been able to have a couple terrific runs per game.

I don't agree that NCC came out flat. CUW was just a quality opponent. CUW was very big on the DL, with their left side going 300 and 265 with good quickness. Spicer had his hands full, but I don't think he'll face a tougher DE all year so it was good preparation.

I'm also sure that NCC prepared against the counter. But there's no way that a scout team can run the counter as crisply as CUW did. CUW had good speed in their backfield. On ever 3rd down play, NCC should have expecting the counter. CUW also ran draw a lot on 3rd downs but that wasn;t really hurting them. The other factor was that there was absolutely no pursuit coming from the inside. No Defensive Linemen, no LBs. Once a ball carrier got outside the tackles, it was up to the CBs and Safeties to make tackles. That showed how much they miss a player like You Know Who.

The discussion about officiating is just nonsense. There were several no calls on both sides. There was at least one pass interference on each side that would have resulted in one more TD for each team.

CUW also converted a FG in the 4th quarter. However, NCC roughed the kicker --- it was incredible that they missed the ball. Well, CUW took the points off the board, couldn't score, then missed the FG from 1 yard closer. Had they kept the points on the board, the game never goes to OT.

I played late 70s. I think that's when they introduced double bar facemasks. ;D
