Ugh, bad week for the CCIW.  Already people are calling us out http://www.d3football.com/dailydose/?p=229 (see Gordon's response on 9/10 at 12:20).  Wheaton sounded strong (good job by the way jaybird, really enjoyed it), but I kept wondering if Butler was really that bad or Albion got thrown off by the late start time or something else.

Good win for IWU, after their decent showing against Coe and a decent win over an opponent they were ranked above (IWU ranked 82 in Kickoff, Olivet ranked 129) they might be putting something together.  Another good test lies ahead with Mt. St. Joseph.

Things not looking good for North Park with a loss to Benedictine.  Benedictine is improving, but Elmhurst handled them pretty well.  Also, personally I had hoped for a big improvement from the Vikings.  Not having that gimmie game only makes the CCIW stronger.

Got a chance to see the new Wheaton uniform on the Wheaton website.  I really like the new helmet design.  However, I hate the new Denver Broncos style of jersey.  With the piping and the stuff on the side, I think it looks awful.  Just doesn't do it for me.

Congrats to making it to 300 CCIW Post Patterns!

BP35,

I did.  Way back when we wore leather helmets!   ;D  Well, not quite that far back, but I played at NCC in the late 80's.

WOW!  You're old! ;D

Well, If i'm old, that must make you....... :P

i played in the early 90's so i'm not very far behind you guys.

it's all history now but i remember saying that they were a good team along with commenting on the "line" play.  all that took place in that game was no suprise to me.  those guys at CUW just run their offense.  enough said about that.

i watched the NPU game and i was disappointed after such a good start.

Could be worse... they could have something like the Oregon Ducks.  Whew, those are just awful!  :o

I was at the Augie game and it was tough to watch from an offensive perspective.  The defense played very well and did enough to give them a chance to win.  However, turning the ball over twice deep in your own territory in the 4th quarter will not get it done.  Augie's QB made several huge mistakes in the 4th quarter, two poor pitches (one which BW recovered and one which resulted in a big loss when they were driving) and a very poor throw which was was intercepted and returned to the Augie 12.

BW really came to play and was getting after it the entire game.  Augie's offense came out flat and stayed there.  Very little excitement or emotion shown by any of the players on Offense.  I also thought the play calling was questionable, way too much option with very little success (both of the fumbled pitches were on option plays).  One of the things we all noticed is that Augie doesn't seem to have great speed with any of their backs.  All have decent speed, but they don't seem to have the one or two guys who can break the big runs like we have in the past.  Hopefully, they can get back on track next week in Wisconsin against Platteville.
I have to agree with you and add a little.  My thoughts about Augie were that they looked slow- not only the running backs but the O-line too.  And that they looked small.  I know that monstro sized is not anything that is essential for the Wing-T, but they really looked over matched and could not create the holes that were needed for the backs to pop through.  And when they did have the holes there, BW's linebackers did a great job of filling those gaps and getting the tackles.  McGinnis really looked out of sorts during the whole game.  The pitches in the 4 Qtr were horrible decisions and there were pitches that he didn't make earlier in the game that I thought he should have made.  It isn't like he doesn't know the option either, because that is what he played under at Alleman HS.  I thought that it was interesting how much Augie threw the ball.  They have already surpassed their last season's attempts in just the first two games.  Incidently, I thought that they looked good running the 2 minute offense...until the final 2 yards.  Make no doubt about it, BW came to play ready to stop the run.  Hopefully, Augie can repeat their ability to rebound like last year.  I sure would like to see them looking much sharper than they did on Saturday.

Matblake-  Thank you.  Glad to hear that you were able to hear us via the Internet.  I was very impressed with Wheaton's Defense.  I think the Thunder have a great shot at the crown again this year.  I think their only question mark is their offense.
As for their Uniforms...  I have a Wheaton helmet in my basement.  I have one side with the old and one side of the helmet with the new.  I must say I like the old helmets with the Wheaton cursive title on the side.  I am going to have to get used to this new hat.  The jerseys I thought were o.k.

Yes the North Park/Benedictine game is a disappointment and shows that Scott Pethtel has a lot of work to do.  (More that what I originally thought)

SothaSill-- I am still trying to "decode" what you're trying to state.  Your comments were rather vague.  I think both CUW and NC are very good teams, and in any battle  1 team wins, while 1 team loses.  A game settled in double OT tells me that it was a very tight, exciting game.  No need to go back (after the fact) and start slamming NC or the CCIW >:(

CCIW Congratulations on your 300th page!

Augie, I will send you congratulations on your 300th pass attempt sometime in 2010.

BW is middle tier in OAC. Obviously better than last year. Stay away from ONU, Capital, JCU and you know who!

If this didn't convince someone about the pass nothing will. Last years playoffs and a few years ago with 48 minutes of ball possesion and two losses to show for it.
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

I was just taking a look at the new top 25.. congrats to  Wheaton for jumping up to #25.  Augie, CUW, and NC are all receiving votes also.  IMy point is just that IMO the balance of power is not looking very pretty right now.  It appears the OAC, IIAC, WIAC, and east regional teams are starting to strengthen the gaps between them and the CCIW.  (Maybe this is just me)  Baldwin Wallace upsetting Augie,  CUW knocking off NC, and Ohio Northern defeating Millikin are just some small signs that tell me, the CCIW is not where it has been in the past.

jaybird,

I don't think that ONU beating Millikin proves that the CCIW is slipping, but BW beating Augie most likely does.  ONU right now would be considered to be much better than Millikin.  I don't think anybody was surprised that the Polar Bears won.

I still think that the loss of Mario Smith and Radke (sp?) is a much bigger deal to the Cardinals than people are saying.  Someone mentioned that Kniss looked lost at first, perhaps after being spoiled with Spencer he was looking for someone to step up.

sorry, i shouldnt have disrespected this conference because it is a lot better than the IBFC...I just felt disrespected in the fact that CUW got less attention in the polls this week....Also, the IBFC and CUW were getting disrespected on their board....CUW was looking for respect and that win should have gotten them that respect but it hasnt...good luck to the CCIW

I would add that Cathage only beating Lakeland by a TD is also very telling to me.  I saw them play against UWW and Lakeland looked terrible which is to be expected but they couldn't stop the massacre even against UWW's 3rd, 4th and 5th string.  (Starters all out before halftime.) I would have expected a mid to upper level tier CCIW team to have beaten them by much more. But I also wouldn't hold Ohio Northern beating Millikin against the CCIW.  Afterall,  they were the only team to beat MUC last year.

You said that earlier but what the heck do you mean? CUW got zero votes last week.
