Congrats to Wheaton WR Noah Dreyer for making the D3football.com front page through his performance on Saturday. Nine catches for 98 yards and 3 TDs is a great game no matter who it is against. Sounds like the Wheaton offense has once again found its stride again after a subpar 2005. Looking forward to the Oct. 14th game at Augie.

As for the conversation about the Bears and Super Bowl XLI a few pages back, they have a very good shot at making it to the Super Bowl and possibly winning it. But as all of us football fans (and especially the former players) know they will have to stay healthy and not look too far ahead. They got cocky last year in the playoffs and it bit them in the rear. They could have a very good year, but it is still way too early to guarantee a good season.

April, I agree with you on the onside kick  ???.  What was that?  They were up 28-0 with like 20-some seconds left in the half.  It made no sense, because if it fails they have a short field to try to get one in before the half.  Oh well.

I thought the onside kick was a clever move. There were 19 seconds left. I'd prefer that the Cards have actually tried an onside kick before the Augie or Wheaton game when it might be necessary. Also, I'm not sure if the entire team knew that it was going to be an onside kick. Several NCC players ran beyond the ball with no attempt to recover. The BU front line was outta there faster than the crowd at the end of the 3Q. ;)

You're worried about leaving BU a short field with 19 seconds left. Please.
My reaction to the onside kick was a little different than yours Card Alum... it was more... "wow, basically telling a team that you're practicing against them is sorta rude." But from a practical standpoint, I'm not really sure NCC had anything to worry about in regards to Benedictine scoring... I mean... that isn't exactly a very threatening team... and I seriously doubt they would have been able to put anything up against a tough NCC team in a few seconds. I also agree with midwestfb in that it is nice to have the chance to practice the onside kicks in a game situation. It still must have been a big "ouch" to Benedictine to realize that NCC did what they did for the reason they did it! :D

I don't think they'd be physical enough to hang with an Augie or even Wheaton.
Heeey? What's up with that? We're ranked above Augie in the polls!  :P

Thanks for your thoughts on the game though... Redlands will probably finish somewhere in the upper middle of the SCIAC this year... so it's frustrating to see that this is what I have to deal with as far as the conference strength as a whole. It will be interesting to go to an Oxy game at some point and see if they're really deserving of this #10 national ranking they have.

I guess looking at it again, BU probably wasn't going to score, BUT I also think that winning with class is sometimes just as important, if not more important, than just winning.  That was a slap in the face at BU.  There were years when we were getting beat pretty good by Wheaton and Coach Bishop and Coach Fabio( ;D), would take a knee or shut it down to avoid beating us any worse.  I have so much respect for those guys because of it.  Win and lose with class.  This is why I have always had such an issue with Norm through the years, because he is at the other end of that spectrum.

I had gone from 164 karma to 158 without posting!   On the plus side, having negative karma because of a posting board isn't nearly so bad as having multiple stalkers...  :D ::) :-\

Maybe the negative karma came from your stalkers because of the fact that you weren't around!   :D :D

I know you weren't taking it the wrong way, but to clarify, I wasn't referring to the overall skill of Augie vs. Wheaton, I was only referring to how physical the teams play.  Traditionally, I think it's fair to say Augie is a little more physical than Wheaton, that's not saying better.  Anyways, that's the only point I was making there.  Both teams would beat Redlands handily I think.

As for Oxy, I can't believe I used to live only a few blocks from their campus and never made it to a game.  I didn't really know much about them at the time, so I think I assumed they were NAIA or something.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Did you kiss your sister too?  :o ;)

Anyhow, it's reassuring to know that you are on the good side of the force Mugsy... It's very important for Wheaties to keep up a good image.  :)

Yeah, well I figured the analogy of CardinalAlum = NCC = "darkside" vs. Mugsy = Wheaton = "good side of force" worked well... ;)

Now if CardinalAlum jumps in here and claims to be my father, then I'm really going to need some therapy.

I understood what you meant... but Augie is still the mortal enemy... can't ever miss the opportunity to get a jab in!  :)

Incidentally, in the "Which One is Our True Football Rival, Augie or NCC" contest .... does anyone know of anyone ever making tee shirts that say "Beat North Central" for mass distribution on campus? For some reason, I really just think Augie is the game that everyone gets the most hyped up for in the time that I was a student at Wheaton.

Congrats to Wheaton WR Noah Dreyer for making the D3football.com front page through his performance on Saturday. Nine catches for 98 yards and 3 TDs is a great game no matter who it is against.

And Chris Berman would love the reference in the Daily Dose:

I don't recall spending an evening with any gorillas, so I am definitely NOT your father!   ;D ;D ;D  (Could have gone a lot worse here, but remembered that this is a happy place!)

Actually I was thinking purely in relation to NCC vs. Wheaton and not based on religious affiliation.

Gorillas?  Ouch... don't see too many 5'9" 200lb offspring from Gorillas.  Boy, just think of the kind of linebacker I could have been at 450lbs of sheer muscle.

That said I probably still therapy given I received my Masters degree at NCC after graduating from Wheaton.  Guess that means I kinda dabbled in the dark-side for awhile (7 years!)...

"7 years of education down the drain..." (yet another Animal House reference)
