Well that is what 1 class a semester at night while working full time gets you.  A really extended educational experience...

I guess looking at it again, BU probably wasn't going to score, BUT I also think that winning with class is sometimes just as important, if not more important, than just winning.  That was a slap in the face at BU.

I don't think the onsides kick makes a statement about class, good or bad. There were 19 seconds left in the first half of a 28-0 game. If BU was alert, it would not have succeded. But the player's heads may already had been in the locker room. Now, if the onsides kick occured in the middle of the 3rd quarter after the score was 38-0, that may be different.

The play may be a great teaching point for  BU, before it happens in close conference game with more serious consequences.

We're talking about competitive college football. We don't always have to be nice. In the past 10 years, Augie has beaten NCC 65-0, 40-14, and a little further back 59-14. Wheaton has beaten NCCC 41-7, 42-17, 49-13 and a little further back 56-12. IWU pasted NCC in '93 60-0. None of those were nice games.  Mismatches happen.

So, 1 NCC Class is as tough as 5 Wheaton classes?  ;)

There's a difference between being nice and having class!  Those Augie games got to those types of scores because we couldn't stop the run.  The Wheaton games could have been much worse if you can imagine that.  They shut it down and kept the scores where they were, instead of running it up.  The score of the game against IWU doesn't surprise me considering the man at the helm for the Weenies!   ::)

Thanks for the pep talk all! Diehardfan had warned me earlier to ignore karma as the content of ones posting was what truely counts. I tried doing so and thought my content was fairly benign. I became a little miffed that regardless what I offered it received some rejection. Kinda like studying your butt off for an exam, thinking you aced it and then receiving a low grade ???

For the record, not that anyone would know, I was born in California. I kinda know the reputation those who live there have :D

CardinalAlum, the 60-0 pasting was in '96.  I remember quite clearly because I actually played the whole 4th quarter of that game.  The final score had nothing to do with who our head coach was that day.  That game was a blowout from the beginning, with a few NCC turnovers early leading to quick scores.  I think we were up something like 42-0 at the half.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

The Wheaton/NC and IWU/NC comparisons all point to the fact that the CCIW as a whole, is getting increasingly more competitive and the "gaps" between the haves and have nots is less.  I played on some EC teams that got blown out of a few games.  The last 2-3 years, you can count on 1 hand the number of games the Jays were truly "blown out of".
There is no more Big 4 Little 4  and all teams 1-8 (and I do include NPU because they can only go in 1 direction) are right there making each week very exciting.

Diehardfan-

I just about fell out of my chair laughing when you talked about how bad Westminster sucks.  My girlfriend finished her undergrad there while I am going to Wash U for my Masters.  I pretty much told her that same thing after the shallacking Wash U gave them and I think she was about ready to beat me up.  ;D  Yet, to Westminster's defense, they're a school of about 900 students and are known much more for their academics than their sports ability.  As to Wash U's defense for getting beaten so badly by Wheaton, I dont' think there is a defense.  Wash U isnt' the team they used to be and haven't been for awhile.  They do have a few good players but are not up to the playing ability of the CCIW.

As for how well Olivet plays, I think that question should be answered by fightintitan.  He heard the game on the radio even though he should have been there!! :D ;)

79jaybird:
I was wondering if you could fill me in on how Ryan Keeton (DB, Punt Returner) has been doing this season for Elmhurst? I coached him in his earlier days. I was happy for him that he was able to contribute as a freshmen. His Mom had told me he was having some health issues? I don't know if it has effected his playing time and his folks haven't been able to make the games so far.

79jaybird

Tailgater-- Ryan Keeton has done a solid job for Elmhurst on Special Teams.  Really, I attribute EC's comeback last week vs. Chicago to the entire Special Teams and Defensive units.  Moreso, special teams, because the kicking game really was the spark that ignited the comeback.
I like Keeton's versatility and that "explosive" nature he has returning kicks/punts.
I haven't seen him at DB probably because the starter secondary has been sharp.
I haven't heard of any health or physical problems with Ryan.  The only health concern(s) that I heard about were a couple of turf toes, however both turf toe sufferers played in the game vs. Chicago.

I too remember some old times at Wheaton...like getting pasted by Elmhurst in a night game at old Wheaton Central high school.

Contrary to the basketball and soccer boards, there doesn't seem to be a lot of NPU football talk around here. What's been the general consensus on their play thus far?

They are a team that is improving and fighting for their first conference win in a long time. Every year we say this is the year that they get it but they just fall short. North Park almost got it against us in 2004 (Carthage-13 NP-10) and that would have ruined our magical season. I hope they get it this year (just not against us  ;D)
