Several pages back you mentioned your CCIW cross-pollination as an undergrade at Wheaton and grade school at NCC. I have some CCIW cross-pollinating going on as well, but only from a family standpoint. Back in 1969 - 1970 my Dad was a scout for Wheaton when Mal Pearson was the head coach. I used to go along and help as a spotter. This was back in the day where pencil, paper, charts and binoculars were the tools of choice. I can still remember watching Augie's Kenny Anderson torch some poor defense for 400+ passing yards. I hope it wasn't my Dad's scouting skills which led to Coach Pearson's dismal record and short lived career at Wheaton.  My Mom served 22 years as the Nurse Practitioner for the Wheaton College Health Center. My younger brother married a Wheaton grad whose Dad is currently on the Wheaton College Board of Trustees. I would have never guessed that 30 some years after my scouting experience I would have a son playing in the CCIW. Needless to say I saw more than my share of Crusader football (as I knew them) over those years.

Wow!  I'm amazed at the number of posters with similar experiences.

My "cross pollination" goes even further than Wheaton and NCC.

Wheaton:
  - received my BS in Mathematics in 89'
  - played and coached football
  - older brother 4 year starter at Wheaton and captain of 1984 team
  - sister graduated from Wheaton
  - brother-in-law was Academic All-American on 1986 team

North Central:
  - received my MS in Computer Science in 03'

North Park:
  - my mother graduated from nursing school
  - my wife graduated in 94'

Direct ties to 3 of 8 CCIW schools.  Bad part of this... we receive both academic and athletic fund-raising letters from North Park, North Central and Wheaton!

I went to high school with Al May's two older Daughters.
Al and his wife Madeline went to North Park
Al was a great bball player and won a Nat'l Championship at NPU
oldest Daughter Amy went to North Central and I believe was involved with either Track or CC
Youngest Daughter Molly is at/or went to IWU  and plays Volleyball.  Al's family is all CCIW.
Mugsy,  if you have kids will you want them to go to one of your schools?  When I have kids (and hopefully when I'm ready gotta get married first  ;)  )  I would at least tell them about my feelings towards my alma mater and at least try to persuade them to take a strong look at Elmhurst.

Molly May just graduated in 2006.  She was a very good volleyball player and a good person all around.

As I parent, I hope I can provide the means for them to go to the school of their choosing.

Obviously the CCIW schools provide great education, along with the opportunity to participate in athletics.  Both my wife and I have had really positive experiences at the schools we have attended.  I will share my experiences and encourage them to check the schools out, but ultimately they will have a lot of input to where they attend based on the areas of study they are interested in, etc...   I'm guessing there may be some constraints as we will be paying the tuition :o ).

Mugsy-- I hear you,  My Father told me (and my younger Sister)  4 years is on me.  Anything more is on YOU.  And all my Father had to do was give us a wink and a hug and we knew that he meant every word of that sentence.  :-*

Oh man, I don't have any "cross-pollination".  :-[  Wait, does this count?:  I graduated from NCC, my wife graduated from NCC and I dislike Norm in Weenieland and Bosko at Carthage!  :D :D

Just make sure you send a little something to the school that provided you with your masters degree!  We need a new fieldhouse!  After all, that degree is making you more money than your Wheaton one!  :P

You had some discussion about NCC trying an on-side kick against BU just before the half. I won't comment on the merits of sportsmanship in doing so with a 28-0 lead as I feel you gotta do what you gotta do.

I can't even imagine the outrage from the NCC folks if Norm had done this.

Sorry, couldn't resist.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

I never before suspected this about my fellow CCIW schools - Wheaton and NCC are actually grade schools?! ;D

In fact, "undergrade" at Wheaton - does that make it a kindergarten?! ;)

I used to (jokingly) tell my kids they could pick any school in the country they wanted to go to.............and enjoy the best YEAR of their life. Not sure how far the college fund might stretch.

Close enough, you made me chuckle, or should I get hip and say LOL ;D

My parents were originally going to pay for all my undergrad, and couldn't afford it when it came down to it. I have a ton of college loans, but I tell myself that it's character building. :)

79jaybird,

I told my kids the same thing ("4 years on me, beyond that on you"), but fortunately son #1 is happy (so far, at least) with Eastern Michigan, not one of those hoity-toity d3 schools! ;D

At EMU we don't have to fiddle with financial aid (though he got two scholarships anyway, without even applying for them!).  If we had gone the CCIW (for example) route, I imagine the actual out-of-pocket would not have been much over double what we're paying, but after 32 years of horror stories from students about financial aids, I'm sure glad he seems to like EMU!

His younger brother is only 3.3 years (but 4 grades) behind, so the 4-year rule is essential.  I can quite easily (well, FAIRLY easily!) handle one kid in college, but two at once would be a pain!

April, the loans took me 8 or 9 years to pay off, but they were cheap compared to where rates are today - back then the college loan programs were heavily subsidised by the Feds...reminding me of a great Simpsons line:

Lisa: But Grampa, didn't you wonder when you kept getting checks in mail every month?

Grampa: No, I just thought the Democrats where in power again. ;D

But April, the experience was well worth every penny of interest!

the federal stafford loan interest rates were recently the lowest they'd ever been, they have started to edge north again but they are still historically very low. About two years ago they were half what the were in the mid-90's.
It's actually a very good time to get a student loan.
