I think it will be a close battle in rock island this weekend. I wouldn't let the augie slide go so far as to say they will lose to weenie nation but IWU is a strong defensive team and will cerainly be able to hold its own against a struggling augie attack. having said that augie's defense is proving to be pretty stingy and IWU's offense is anything but distinguished through 3 games.

I expect a close game through 3 quarters with augie pulling out a victory through iwu turnovers late.

as a side note we should all be encouraged by the increased activity (and civility) on this board. we have just passed the NCAC for second place in the north region in post patterns frequency. :D

Any news out of the Augie camp on this week's game?  I've been hearing rumors that McGinnis may not be starting this weekend.  Could be a big weekend in Rock Island with a 2nd string QB and a weak OLine.  You hear anything dansand?

GO TITANS!!!

No I haven't, but I'm far from an insider when it comes to the Viking football program. I have have a little better connections when it comes to the hoops team.

I was just thinking the exact same thing.

Nice to have a good overall representation of posters too.  That said it has been considerably more quiet from the Augie contingent compared to years past, even before the current struggles (some from DanSand, sporatic from vike35).  Strong representation from Carthage, Wheaton, North Central and Elmhurst.  A decent amount of information coming from North Park and IWU faithful, but could use more.  Pretty quiet on the Millikin front...

In the CC/EC game.....Yeah history does say somethin.....but then again its in the past....It wont be those teams still playing....obvious i know..........The light situation is crap because elmhurst has the same field surface and practices under lights 2-3 times a week....And they're crapier lights than carthage has....so if anything they will be more than ready........EC comes out on top in this one.......Carthage while good on past games is not the same team it was in 2004 and not even the same as last year I think it EC turn

First of all do you have money on this game in Vegas? Second of all if you do where can I put some money on CCIW games  :D I can see you are very strong with Elmhurst winning this game which is fine and understandable. But you still have never answered if you went to Elmhurst or a father of someone from Elmhurst or just a very faithful Elmhurst fan? Just wondering

That's just what the birds tell me as they fly by my office window.  Vikes35, any input?  Is McGinnis hurt or am i making things up?  I believe it's going to be a VERY close game and can't wait to hear the outcome.

GO TITANS!!!!!!!

In my post I stated well lit stadium. If the stadium is lit properly ther is no problem with Shadows. I have never been to Carthage but I am going to assume they have a well lit stadium. The field is lit along the sidelines so you don't have to look into the lights to see the ball for the same reason fields are placed so you don't have to look into the sun.

Well lit or not, assuming the stadium has 4 posts with stadium lights (as it should) shadows will be created around a player.  In effect, the lights will create 4 different shadows.  It happens and it can be confusing if you're not used to lights.  Will it affect the outcome of the game, i highly doubt it.

And even if it's lit from the sidelines, you still have a chance of looking into the light and losing the ball.  For example, the offense is set on the left hash at their own 20 yard line anf a receiver is lined up near the right hash.  He runs a fly pattern and the QB launches the ball deep.  Most likely the receivers eyes will follow through the light post nearest the left hash of the team's 25 or 30 yard line.  Whether or not it affects him is up to the player.

No offense comet14, but i've played in those situations and the lights can and sometimes do get in the way.

I would say personally I would have rather played during the day rather than under the lights. There was a little glare that you would get from the lights at night games but it never bothered me. I liked playing during the day because it just had that Saturday college football feel. Also I hated waiting around all day until gametime. I wanted to get up and get ready to go for a 1:00pm gametime. Also with day games it left you with more time to go out and enjoy the night life  ;)

Joe Bear I am not sure what our first light game was.  It could be Elmhurst for some reason I  remember Lakeland under the lights before anyone.  But I could be wrong.  Being there before lights for two and two with lights it is all mixed up for me.

79 Jaybird  We used to call him Bad Boy Burris if you would like to use that term you are more than welcome.

I'm really excited about this first week of play in conference.  I don't think the CCIW played its best this non-conference season. Does anyone think that depending on how the conference race goes it could cost the CCIW an at-large playoff bid?

NCC made it last year as the clear number 2 team in the conference, but went 3-0 in non-con and only lost to auggie. say the number one and number two teams go 7-0, 6-1 or 6,-1, 6-1 in conference...do you all see one or two CCIW teams making play-offs.

As usual all roads seem to go through MUC.  I watched some highlights on thier website..thier WR Pierre (#1 I think) is a D-III highlight reel...

NCC_alum62

as for day vs night games...

I loved night games both in HS and at NCC.  After Thorn came around the college really perked up on football.  We got a pep-band, more cheerleaders (including a couple male ones...the first I'd seen in D-III), and a vibrant student section.  The new student orientation staff has really plugged the football team and gotten the different classes to start going.  The atmosphere is unbelieveable.

Wheaton always had great day games (great crowd) when we played there, Weslyan..well lets not talk about it I hated every second on that field :-D. I was glad my last two years they had to come to us.  They blast that crappy marching music...anyway.  Elmhurst always smelled of brats and had a good crowd.   I liked playing away day games in the CCIW..meant getting home and still having some juice left for the post game ;-)

I look back on this post and it hits me...FOOTBALL is frickin fantastic day or night...damn life is good

Mugsy, I think this could be expected a bit as a lot of graduates tend to find work in and around the city.  I'd guess not as many people stay around Decatur, Bloomington, or the Quad Cities after graduation, so it's harder to stay close to the program.  As for NPU, frankly I think a few more wins would increase interest in the program is all.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Maybe I am just a really big drunk, but I never had trouble enjoying the night life after a night game!
Night was fun too cause you got to sleep in a little, and the team morning walk through was always a +.  I liked having all day to be ready.
