I know NC is the heavy favorite (and I pick them also), but does anybody feel that NPU has a good--fair shot in this one?  All the other games seem to me, like they have the makings of a 4th quarter marathon!

I give no np absolutely no hope of winning. i would say they have less than a 5% chance of even being competitive. I hope i have to come back here and eat my words because nothing would please a wheaton fan more than north park ending its cciw drought vs naperville.

After looking at the level of competition they have faced so far, I would definitely have to put the Vikings into a non-quantifyable chance of winning.  Could they?  Any team theoretically can win at any time.  However, unless there is a solar eclipse in the next 14 hours, I would say the planets are not lined up in their favor.

There is absolutely no chance that NPU can beat NCC this weekend. Not 5%, not 0.5%, not 0.05%. NCC is not the team it was last year, but NPU is not significantly better. NPU played a weak non-conference schedule and finished 1-2. They were soundly defeated by Benedictine in a game where BU had little problem running the ball or stopping the NPU offense.

NCC played a tougher non-conference schedule, although not overly difficult. They too played BU, and the BU defense never stopped the NCC offense. And the NCC defense stuffed the BU offense. One thing that NCC has shown is that they can still score 30 pts/game. Some of you will scoff at comparisons with common opponents, but I see no chance of a close game. The NCC 3rd and 4th team players should pay attention to the scouting report, as they'll see action before the 4th quarter.

After both NPU and NCC playing three games, I've seen little evidence to suggest this should be closer than 40 points. The weather doesn't even help NPU, with 56 degrees ans 6mph SW winds predicted at game time.

If there's a CCIW game that NPU could win this season, it's next week at home against Millikin. Millikin plays Wheaton this week and then makes the long trip to Foster Avenue. Millikin could be beat up or looking ahead past NPU.

The more I analyze and read up (as I prepare for the broadcast tomorrow) the more I am focusing on 2 areas in the EC/Car matchup  A) Turnovers B) Special Teams
A) Turnovers were what killed Elmhurst last year at home.  Carthage was able to benefit from some costly physical and mental errors last year, which I hope won't happen tomorrow.  Turnovers by Olivet let to 17 points last week which really makes life difficult for the team turning the ball over.
B) Special Teams.  The Bluejays have benefitted from strong kicking by Tyler Lomnicki and Geoff Steele.  IMO the greatest area of improvement has been the punting game.  Steele had a few touchbacks (wind aided), but in a grudge match between arch enemies, field position takes a major role in deciding the outcomes.

I agree with teams and turnovers. if you want to narrow it to just one variable its definately turnovers. carthage's team is set up to feed off of them. they create points and opportunities off turnovers and they try to protect the ball and win field position with special teams. this is a common formula for many teams but carthage's team counts on this to a much higher degree. they play a really aggressive pressure defense that blitzes consistently for 4 quarters. there are 2 ways to attack this and in both ways you better have better people to execute than they have to defend. I have seen teams line up in double tight ends and run right at this type of defense (the idea here is that brute force negates athleticism when you run at people) the other way is to mix a  spread them out and 3 step game with max protect and beat people 1 on 1--much more risky and difficult to execute. option b requires a veteran qb---napreville school will try this w kk. I think elmhurst's only chance is option A--line up and pound them and take their chances if they think their defense is better than carthages. I think elmhurst has better people on defense than carthage does on offense so this is a better strategy for the jays IMO.

FYI, for those interested in the Elmhurst Carthage game will be broadcast live on www.wrse.com  or 88.7FM  (local area).  I think this is the only "live" broadcast.
I am pretty sure that Carthage's broadcast will be taped delayed because of Kenosha Raiders Football.

What the?  Is this grade school?  Are you going to pull on April's pigtails next?
I'm a little old for pig tails, thank you very much. :P

Hence the statement about if this is grade school when it would have been more age appropriate.  Stay with me here..........
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

I found a site that does translations. It took 10 seconds to find the site, 10 more seconds to type biting insult to CardAlum.  ;D

RedmenFB44-

I have to ask.  How do you pull both hamstrings in a beer league softball game?  I hope it has something to do with you being caught in a picklr and pulling out a Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez type move while The Beast hops over the fence and chases you down too.   ;D

Haha close but the first hamstring pull was me rounding first base after an over throw and I still got into second safe with a head first slide. The second hammy was when I was on third and there was a gronder hit to the third baseman and I waited till he threw the to first and I sprinted home and scored. I guess I am trying too hard in this old man league. I can't do the things that I used to be able to do. I should just stick to posting on this board  ;D

Tailgater--  breaker breaker (hehe, "The Dukes of Hazzard" was my favorite show growing up) that's a 10-4 with the Apple Juice.
Now remember, you can't get me too "flipsy" because I can't be like Harry on the air slurring my speech, and sloshing around the names. etc.
Most likely I will get there around mid afternoon to set up shop and join you guys.
I hope it doesn't rain and we can have a fun weekend with good weather.
