There is nothing natural about resting in Wheaton.  The bell stays.

Just as Naperville isn't fit to be the county seat of DuPage, the North Central isn't fit to possess the bell any longer.  The bell returns to it's proper resting place in Wheaton, where it has been 18 of the last 20 years.

Lets just start getting used to it ".....where it has been for 19 of the last 21 years".

Hi all,

I have some terrible news to report.  Many of you know formerd3db (Todd)  who frequently posts on this board.  Todd and I are good friends.  Todd's Mother passed away yesterday and he asked me to inform both the CCIW/MIAA boards.  He asks for all his friends on the d3football boards to keep him and his family in your prayers today.  I was shocked to receive his email with the terrible news this morning.
Times like this make football take a back seat to what's important in life.

My prayers go out to formerd3 and his family.  May you feel God's presence in this time of sorrow.

In the local paper they asked (I think it was) Chris Studer if the logo would be back next week and he was quoted as saying, "I wouldn't hold my breath."

Ouch

I was thinking that if anybody wants to send a condolence card or their thoughts to formerd3db,  email me (use my comcast email account)  and I will get you Todd's mailing address in Michigan.

Tailgater,  I agree with you that the onside kick was executed well.  From my vantage point I thought the Redmen huddled around the ball well, and waited for the football to cross the 10 yard marker.
I was frustrated at the delays and the "Throw the flag, now let's have a 5-10 minute discussion on why the flag was thrown, who it was on, etc."  Make the call and let's play so there is some type of rhythm/flow to the game.
My frustration wasn't so much the calls for/against each team, but the delays and "unprofessionalism" of the officials.

Comet 14

I spoke with players that were on the field during the onside kick and they thought the ball was touched before the 10 yards. I could not see it any better than anyone else not on the field. I thought it was touched.

Comet 14

I guess it really doesn't  matter it didn't change the outcome of the game. On to next week. Will Elmhurst be able to slow down the Augie running attack?

79jaybird

"Will Elmhurst be able to slow down the Augie running attack?"
Comet14-- That's the $25,000 question that everybody asks entering Augie week.  The Wing-T offense has been such a great rushing attack that Augie has run consistently well for many years.  The last few meetings have been close and EC has been right there.
I am not getting my hopes up too high (in other words, not jumping the gun), but I do think this year's defense, combined with a less than dominant Augie offense, has all the implications that Elmhurst has a great chance to upset Augie on their home turf. Who knows?  Anything can happen.

wheaton/naperville school-I have been struggling with my thoughts on this game all week. looking at the numbers the two teams seem somewhat close on paper. my prevailing thoughts are these:

-wheaton has played a much tougher schedule and fared better (1 common opponent)
-naperville school doesn't have enough speed on offense to stretch the field against wheaton and they rely on shorter/ball control passes. wheatons speed on defense will react well to this
-wheaton plays really well at home
-wheaton has way too many penalties
-wheatons defense, fast as it is, doesn't create nearly enough turnovers
-wheaton is a 9.5 pt favorite on OAC pickems

and my bottom line is naperville school lost 5 of the 6 best players in the league and hasn't shown they have replaced them with comparable playmakers. so in my estimation wheaton is a better team than a year ago and naperville school is not.

take wheaton, give the points and bring the bell back home.

USee-- your points are exactly why I think Wheaton wins the bell game in 2006.  I think the key losses at the skilled positions for NC have left a big gap that the Cardinals can't seal up in 1 year.  Wheaton is a top 3 team in the CCIW and I don't see NC in the Top 3 yet.  That's not to say that the Cardinals won't end up in the top 3 at the end of the year... but I think the Cards still have some questions to resolve.

I had very similar thoughts.

I would add (and did in a previous post) that on paper Wheaton appears to have an advantage in stopping the run.  If the "naperville school" is forced into a one dimension offense comprised of short/ball control passing game, that bodes well for Wheaton.

While Wheaton's defense to this point in the season hasn't excelled in creating turnovers, the same could be said for the "naperville school".  Wheaton turnovers created: 6, "naperville school": 7.  Seems to be a wash to me.

The history of the little brass bell is here on Wheatons football page.

It should be noted that the manner that Wheaton obtained the county records was a criminal act.

The constant references to North Central College as the "naperville school" are really dreogatory and insulting.
