North Park actually had
i]three[/i] Love brothers who starred on the football team:

* Scott Love was a three-time All-CCIW receiver (second team, first team, and first team) in 1983, 1984, and 1985;

* Todd Love was a two-time All-CCIW receiver (second team and honorable mention) in 1986 and 1987;

* John Love was a two-time All-CCIW quarterback (first team and first team) in 1989 and 1990.

Scott Love is NPU's all-time career leader in receptions and receiving yards. His brothers are all over the school's record book as well.

The depth of you knowledge always surprises me.   :o  Do you find this stuff on line or do you just know it?   ???

Well this one was a North Park question, so it was a slam dunk for him. Greg Sager is all things North Park and has been deeply involved with North Park athletics.

I blush, gentlemen. Thank you for the compliments.  ;D However, there's no mnemonic wizardry on my part at work here. The NPU football record book is on the school's website.

It may be on the website but many of us are betting you only had to look it up to confirm the numbers you already knew!!

Exactly. I'm sure Greg uses the internet to his advantage, but the fact is that he just plain thinks of things that we wouldn't because he knew or heard it once. That's why he can still beat me with his old feeble fingers.  :D ;)

Ok gang, I'm headed out to Wheaton from beautiful Michigan.  Looking forward to seeing the campus again and enjoying my reunion.  My wife and I will be in the hadicapped seating in the metal stands just to the right of the main grandstand at the football game in case anyone wants to stop and say hello.  I don't know what I will be wearing, but I do have a beard and my wife might be in her wheelchair.  Go Wheaton, heres to getting the Bell back!
I hope you have fun matblake... Just know that this Wheaton fan is seriously jealous of your situation! Please make fun of all the card posters a lot for me if you meet them.  :D

Dansand I agree with you.  I don't want to get "too emotionally high" for this Saturday.  I mean we haven't beat you guys since 1979!  I was still a few months in the making.  :D (12/79)
I agree that Elmhurst on paper looks like they have the depth and the better starters, but that's on paper, and I know the "shoulda, coulda, woulda's" won't get you the W.  Elmhurst has come pretty close to knocking off Augie the last 2 years, but hasn't got the W.  It's as if they get to the finish line, but then they can't cross it.
I am looking forward to Saturday.  I really think this is a statement/judgement game for EC.
Dansand, are you going to be there?

Titans or Red Men  ;)?  I'm saying Titans, riding an emotional high from Homecoming, win 23-19.  You?

I also have Grayslake Central over Grayslake North by 18.  35-17

Jaybird,

I didn't mean that I didn't think Elmhurst could win Saturday. I'm just not buying that it would be an upset. With what little I know about the two teams (I still haven't seen Augie play this year), I think it's probably a toss-up, with the home field maybe making the Bluejays a slight favorite. I think their win at Carthage is a better win than either of Augie's, but it doesn't look like either team has faced a real powerhouse yet. Their long unbeaten streak might be a little psychological factor in the Vikings' favor, but I think that's negligible (and the 'Jays did tie Augie's last national championship team 0-0 in the '86 season opener). I definitely expect a much lower scoring game than last year. I don't anticipate them combining for half the points they did in that game.

I won't be in Elmhurst Saturday. I don't think I've been to an Augie road game since the late '70s, which, apparently was before you were even born.  :D

Here's hoping for a well-played, injury free game for both teams and a Viking win!

79jaybird

Dansand, likewise (well, all except the Augie winning part of course  ;)  ) I always wish for a good, clean, injury free contest.
1986-- gosh,  I was in Kindergarten and the when the Bears won the Super Bowl we had an all-school assembly "wear your favorite Bears jersey" day.  Hard to believe Augie's dynasty ended 20 years ago!  Quite a remarkable feat 4 straight Nat'l Championships.
First Dynasty-  Wheaton (Harve Chrouser)  1950's  The Thunder win 8 titles in the 50's.
Second Dynasty-- Carthage (Art Keller)  The Redmen win 5 straight and 6 of 7 straight titles
Augie's Dynasty-- (Bob Reade) 4 Nat'l Championships  83-86,  Vikings win 8 straight CCIW titles and 10 of 11.
Who will be the next Dynasty?  Or with the increasing competitiveness top to bottom.. will there ever be another Dynasty?  :o

I think that if Elmhurst wins Sat. ( and I think they will ) they will recieve some top 25 votes. Anyone else feel the same?

Greg whats your perception on the Vike's young QB Shelby Wood?

I was really impressed at the way the came out against NCC.  The Cards were on there heels for much of the first 20 minutes.  The Vikes just need to learn how to sustain a game.

I see in the game preview that Brandon Watts leads the CCIW in several catagories heading into week 5

No, they will not recieve any votes. They are not good enough

Comet 14

Wow I sense a little hostility. I think some Carthage people might feel a little differently. Have you seen them play ncc_cardinal_fan?

I'm not sure that I have one yet, because in the two games I've seen him play he was alternating at QB with Justin Schwan. Plus, one of those games was against Eureka -- and the Red Devils are so ridiculously bad by CCIW standards that it was hard to get an honest read on anything but his arm strength (which looks very good) from that particular game. Wood certainly comes to the program with great credentials, that's for sure. I'm going to hold off on voicing an opinion of him until I see him take some more snaps.

I'd say it depends on a few factors.  If Elmhurst wins big, then yes.  But if it's a close game and they barely squeak by, I would say no because Augie is only a 2-2 team right now with wins over teams that are not that impressive.  Poor IWU.  :'(  Either way, at most, they'll get a handful of votes but won't crack the Top 25.  I say this only because D3 voting is different than D1 voting in the fact that there are ALOT more teams and the publicity of D3 is not that great.  Therefore, it seems to me that voters go off standings more than strength of schedule.  If anyone believes differently, please tell me.
