Well, I don't agree that NCC will be the favorite against Augie.  I'll allow that NCC lost on the road at Wheaton and Wheaton lost on the road at Augie. But Augie still looks better than NCC.

I don't think NCC will be favored by the public majority but from what I have seen NCC is a better team than Augie(mwfb-have you seen augie play this year?). Wheaton played really well in the second half vs NCC to beat them. Wheaton played really well for the second half of the 4th quarter against Augie. I would be surprised if NCC didn't beat Augie based on what I saw. Kniss is too good a qb. the wheaton passing attack was 10-24 vs Augie. Anyone want to bet on Kniss having worse stats? and the NCC defense is better in almost every category than wheaton (they don't have Studebaker though  ;D). I don't think they have the same playmakers wheaton has but they are very sound on defense.

I guess I'm jaded. NCC has a mark of 19-55-1 against Augie. There have been years where NCC should have won easily but strange things happen. In my mind, NCC should never be favored against Augie.

I haven't seen Augie yet, but I figured they must have figured things out to have beaten Wheaton. I've been impressed with Wheaton and, even without playing their best game, didn't expect them to lose to Augie.

Wow, what a game last night!  I am guilty of turning off the TV too soon  >:(  and waking up this morning, to read that I missed quite a finish.
"Jaybird, is not an NCC fan"  Quite contrary!  Those of you who know me know that I like EC/Wheaton/NC and I am good friends with the coaching staff there.
Pick em's is just that, it's a judgement.  I know Millikin historically plays well at home, they have the best RB in the league, and they are coming off a loss at home, which will make them hungry to play better this week.
All this talk about Wheaton and NC, let's remember that Augie is still the defending CCIW champs.  Until they lose a game, and are dethroned, I think Augie is in the driver's seat for 1st place in conf.
Augie-  Carthage, @NC, NPU @Millikin  I see Augie winning all 4  1 game might be close.
Wheaton @NPU, EC, @Carthage, IWU  Wheaton should win all 4
NC- @Millikin, Augie, @IWU, @Carthage   NC should win 3 of these, 1 will be close.
Of these 3 teams, I think Augie has the easiest road, then Wheaton, then NC
Carthage is a tough road game for both W and NC.
Still a lot of football left and we all know that upsets can happen weekly in the CCIW.

Usee- I agree that Elmhurst better have their A game on Saturday because IWU has been playing well of late and for 2 straight weeks, Elmhurst has been inconsistent.  Similarly, I think Millikin is in the same boat vs. North Central.
Saturday will have a great crowd for Homecoming Weekend, and IWU would like nothing more than to spoil our HC.  I think EC's defense will stop IWU.  It's the offense that I am worried about.
In Decatur,  the variable is  Wallick.  If he gets going, anything can happen.

Carthage made it to the 3rd round of the playoffs in 2004. What happend with that game against Augustana?

Being in that game, we just came out very sluggish. Our offense moved the ball but whenever we got inside of their 20 yard line, we would turn the ball over or have a penalty. Augie's running offense just took a toll on our defense. Our defense was our strong part that 2004 season and as we (the offense) sat there on the sidelines watching Augie's offense slowly move down the field on our defense, it really took a lot out of our offense too. It's just one of those games in a season where you just get beat. Kinda like the Bears game tonight  ???

RedmenFB44:
I seem to recall something about the Defense changing their scheme from what they had been doing all season specifically for this Augie game. Didn't work out to well. Last year in the 7-0 loss, Carthage went back to  this same changed scheme and it worked out great. Best defensive game by Carthage I've seen in 4 seasons.

making my return to the board............

Chicago frickin Bears. Un. Be. Lievable.

6 turnovers
down 20 in the 2nd half
3 total pts from the offense

Still get the W. I am......wow.

Now you have an idea what the Carthage comeback over IWU was like. Very similar circumstances. IWU up 14-0 early and outplaying Carthage. 20-3 at the end of 3 qtrs. 28-9 with 9:43 remaining. Scary how the game clock when td's were scored and point differential were almost identical. including IWU having 3 minutes remaining and an opportunity to move into field goal range for the winner. Only difference being IWU never got to attempt the potential game winning field goal. Gotta love our Bears!

Carthage plays at NCC last game of the regular season.

I'm not gonna get involved with all the "if" scenarios nor throw Carthage into that mix as based on their record we could, but interestingly no one else will. Suffice it to say you gotta play a game each week and you better not look ahead. For Carthage, I'm only looking at the game this weekend in Rock Island and so are the Red Men. The remaining three weeks will come when they come. You can all speculate on future outcomes, but that speculation is sure to change week after week in this conference.

Until they lose the only thing they can claim is defending champs. It does NOT mean they are in the drivers seat. I have seen Augie on their field and NCC in wheaton and NCC is a better team IMO. I can tell you where my pickem will be on that saturday.

Coach Tailgater, good advice.

This is a message board!! we are not players. Whether we look ahead to next week, next month or next year doesn't matter. In fact thats OUR job as posters, to look ahead, behind, up, down, over, under, and call it what it is and speculate. How boring is it if we have to look straight ahead and not worry about what elmhurst is going to do or how NCC will play or second guess the play calling or what the voters think??

Come on man show some creativity. Your suggestion has about as much excitement as Augies offense.  ;D

OK..... I'll play. Carthage wins out, takes the AQ and is the only rep from from the CCIW in the playoffs. Now you'll all jump all over me for being unrealistic! ;D But it is in the realm of possibilities.

usee

that is not unrealistic at all. in fact it is a very real possibility. My only question is the fact that Carthage lost at home to Elmhurst who has now lost to 2 of the three carthage faces.

Hey, if carthage wins out they will be the deserved CCIW champ and you won't hear any arguements from me. I just think they haven't shown us anything to indicate they can actually beat augie, and ncc on the road as well as wheaton in kenosha. If I am wrong you will see me jump on their bandwagon with full CCIW colors waving.

If it is a tie, we should just send North Park, they have a great new facility, courtesy of Mike H.  Besides, it has been a while since they have been there.

While I agree that Chaz Black is a great running back, IMO Nathan Wallick is the best running back in the CCIW.  If I was forming a team of the best of the CCIW, Nathan Wallick would be my go to guy running the football.  If it's 4th down and you need a first down,  I would be putting the ball in Nathan's hands.
For 3 good years, Wallick has been a very good running back.  I have seen him dominate games that Millikin has had no business being in.  IMO, Wallick is better than Black.

"Besides it has been awhile since they have been there"

What is the "there"?  Their best finish was 2nd place in the CCIW and they have never won the CCIW let alone be even close to a playoff bid.  I think the immediate goal for Scott Pethtel and NPU is try to start getting competitive in the CCIW and try to start getting strong, perennial recruiting classes feeding into NPU.  Tim Rucks showed that it can happen with A LOT of work, but right now I think NPU has to take baby steps to build up a program.
