Ah,  as much as I don't care for Norm Eash, you have to give Stormin' Norman some credit down at IWU.  He was been there a LONG time and the Titans have won it in 1992, 1994 (tied with Augie), 1996, 2000 (tied with Wheaton/Millikin), and 2001 (tied with Augie).

JB,

I would agree with you, he has done it in the past and brought IWU from the bottom half of the conference to legit contenders for a while.

Whether you like Normy or not, Eash can get the W's together and bring home CCIW Championship trophies.

Just not lately!  ;D

Wheaton recruits nationally because it has a set of criteria that cannot be found in their own backyard in order to compete. They need a committed christian, an ivy league level student and a great football player. On the other hand, every CCIW school can go into any given high school, turn over rocks and find recruits with less effort and resources. Wheaton cannot do this.

U,

I will agree that Wheaton must work harder to find their recruits, but I also believe that Wheaton offers better tuition assistance packages than any other school in the conference.   Is that accurate?  Usee, Mugsy?

When I was a student 86'-89' and for the following 5 years, Wheaton's tuition assistance packages were not any better than other schools.  In fact I'd characterize it as average at best.

I do not know how the current tuition assistance matches up against other CCIW schools, so I can't comment on that.

Hark!  :o  CardinalAlum and I agree on something.  Sound the bells!  hehe just kidding.
No I agree that Norman has had a decent tenure at IWU.  You are right that of late, there hasn't been much to cheer for in Titan Country. (football of course)
I attribute some of the struggles that IWU is facing recently is due to the competitiveness for recruits.  When EC/NC/Carthage were struggling and going nowhere, schools like IWU/Millikin/Augie had no trouble getting the suburbanites to "go away from home" and play football.
Nowadays, with the rise in programs like Carthage/NC/EC etc.  these suburbanites are willing to play at these schools, making the recruiting for IWU/Augie/Millikin more difficult.

Last thing about the coaches-- don't count out Doug Neibuhr.  Doug can flat out coach and I know other coaches in the CCIW have a lot of respect for that man.  Doug has won titles in 1998 and 2000  so not that many championships, but he is a very good coach for the Big Blue.

Actually one of the most irritating noises I ever heard at a football game was in high school.  My HS (Prospect) was playing at Schaumburg.  It was their homecoming game and they had this fog horn that sounded like it had a cold.  Schaumburg had Kurt Kittner at the time and just murdered us like 42-7 or something.  After every touchdown/big play somebody in the Saxons' stands would sound this horn that was just irritating and made you want to just walk over there and chuck the thing out of the stadium.

lol...

I had a similar experience, only with the UCLA band.  Sitting in the Rose Bowl in 1983 at the Illinois vs. UCLA game, I about lost my mind (here ya' go CardinalAlum, take your shot).  The 10-1 Illini were going up against the 6-4 Bruins.  The rabid Illini fans who hadn't anything to cheer about for centuries thought this was going to be a walk.  Apparently so did the Illini football team, who probably spent more time partying and enjoying the festivities than taking UCLA seriously.

Long story short... UCLA destroyed Illinois 45-7.  UCLA played that stupid fight song not only on every TD, but almost every first down.  Just typing this post I can hear that stupid fight song!!!! ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!

Incidently... I should have known it was going to be a long day when walking in the tunnel leading to our seats, a young woman who obviously had been "tailgating" too hard decided the front of my shirt was the appropriate place to hoark her guts out. >:(  Well at least I got some extra, overpriced Rose Bowl memorabilia (t-shirt, shorts) out of it.

I remember that IL/UCLA game even though I was only 4 at the time.  My Grandparents attended IL and were so disappointed at the outcome, needless to say I was introduced to my first "football frenzy" in our basement.
Speaking of bands, I have noticed that more CCIW schools are getting pep bands at their games. I  have seen pep bands at Carthage/North Central/IWU and Augie.  I think every game/team should have a pep band as it adds to the overall makeup of a football environment.

Wheaton has had a pep band for the last 5-6 years now.
