Jaybird--IWU is in need of a strong O line.  At this point, I'm not sure if it's the players or the blocking schemes that are bad.  I'd actually tend to lean towards the schemes and "chipping" off blocks to read linebackers.  IMO, it sometimes hurts more than it helps.

I believe the weakness of IWU's defense is its linebacking core.  At least that's what I've heard in analysis.  When they play well and make tackles, the team plays well.  Obviously, when they don't, chalk one up to the loss column.

It shoudl be a very good game on Saturday.  It will show us if Elmhurst is a true contender for future CCIW crowns and/or if IWU can make another stride towards restoring its CCIW greatness.

Personally I think the IWU v Elmhurst game will be the most telling game as far as the complete picture of the CCIW this week.  IWU lost to Augie and collapsed against Carthage.  Elmhurst beat Carthage with timely defensive play at crunch time.  I think a loss by Elmhurst shows the parity between the mid-levels of the CCIW this year.  If that were to be combined with Carthage getting creamed by Augie it might spell 1 definite team at the top, Augie, 2 yet to be determined, NCC and Wheaton, and then the rest of the conference.  Of course, always the disclaimer, still a lot of football yet to be played.

Usee- First of all You don't need experience to have an opinion. I have not watched a lot of D3 playoffs nor have I watched a lot of D3 football up till this year. That being said the information is there for anyone who wants to read it. IMO the CCIW is a strong enough conference that if Wheaton goes 9-1 and Augie wins out to be AQ then Wheaton gets in. If NCC beats Augie and wins out as well as Wheaton going 9-1 then I feel they both go.

Comet 14

My mistake I forgot about NCC non conference loss. With 2 losses they must be AQ to get a bid. Again just my opinion.

I agree with this mb. IWU is going to be a dangerouos team down the stretch. they have a qb gaining confidence, good young skill players and are obviously not giving up a lot on defense. This is an opponent that will be dangerous as we finish out.

IWU is a toughy.  I gave them props because of the non-conference schedule they played and their history of being competitive. However, with their collapse against Carthage and a win against the Big Blue, they remain an enigma.  Of course, the Titans pretty much ruined Wheaton's season last year.  That is why I think this game is going to be a defining moment for both the Titans and the Jays as far as the 2006 CCIW football season goes, and possibly beyond.

Ok, there's my addition.  We've got to relish a W in the conference when we get one.

About Dunlop, I haven't seen him play in a couple years, but my take on his inconsistancies was more a result of the blocking in front of him as opposed to his own running ills.  He's not a pound it out, hit you in the mouth and run over you runner.  He needs space to make tacklers miss.  If tacklers are on him, he's going to have a long day.  Again, I haven't seen him play in a couple years though so if this impression is dated, I'll concede.

Will anyone be at EC for the game on Saturday?  I had to take an emergency trip back home to IL this week, so I was considering heading to the game.  Although I've been in the warm weather too long, I don't think I'm tough enough to take the cold rain that might come.

Uh-oh, only 1 more post til I'm karma worthy.  All you Norm haters look out.............:)
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Get it now!!!

I think you hit the nail on the head with Dunlop and that was a more direct version of me saying he's Barry Sanders-esque.  I just wish he'd run more north and south at times.  Also, i'm not sure if his injured ankle is still bothering him or not.

Karma power is like getting "armed" in a video game  or getting the "screw your neighbor" power in "You don't know Jack" game.
IWU is one of those sleeper teams that you never know what to expect.  Historically they have played Elmhurst very well although EC has won the last 2 meetings at home.
Don't think Carthage won't give Augie a fight.  If Elmhurst's defense can keep Augie in check and give their offense a chance (striking distance), so can Carthage's defense.

I will be at the Elmhurst IWU game. I am looking forward to seeing Dunlop run. He sounds like an exciting player. I hope Elmhurst can keep him in check.

I believe I wil be watching (secret scouting HA HA!!!! joking) the Elmhurst vs IWU game.  This looks to be a great game to watch and is not to far from Wheaton.

I would thinkl that would be a great football game to go see, even if you do not have any loyality to either team.

Sometimes it is fun to go to a football game (at any level) and be a neutral party with no preference to who wins/loses.
GoThunder-- if you are thinking about what color attire to wear for the game, may I make a suggestion that you (or your wife) wears BLUE!  :D
