One last point on the students/broadcasting... Why not let an Alum who played the game, knows the game, etc.  have the call on the air as opposed to a student who may/may not know beans about the game and who is on the team?

I believe Wash'dupCard has offered his services up a couple of times.  Seeing that he passed the bar now, it will come at a very high price for his time!  :D  I guess they don't want to take away a chance for a student to gain hands-on experience.  I agree with you,(:o :P)having someone that knows the game from the inside-out would add a nice dimension to the broadcasts.  Seeing as the radio program has done pretty well nationally, they probably won't be taking on our suggestions any time soon.

Hark! CardinalAlum and I agree on something! Whoa!  ;)

Well, I just received the news that my usual analyst (Chris) is unable to make the game.  The "real corp. world sucks"  and has taken precedence.  Understandable of course, but I would rather have him doing the game(s) with me!  Anyway, I am going to ask the player's Father who did the game with me last week to fill in, otherwise I am going to half to fly solo.  Hope that doesn't discourage any of you.  Just ask my girlfriend, listening to me babble about football for 3-4 hours is nothing right?  :P
CardinalAlum-- Yes, what is WashdupCard's rate(s)  $100-300/hour of work?    "Your honor, I swear the defense was offsides"  Sesstained,  "Encroachment, defense, etc..."

Against the Vikings, particularly now that their offense has seemed to get on track, you need to dominate the entire game.  Wheaton had several defensive miscues that Augustana had the talent and know how to capitalize on.  North Central cannot simply play hot and cold and expect to win this game, and that is basically all we have seen from the Cardinals this year.

mb,

i am not saying you are wrong but why would you say this given the fact that augie dominated most of the game vs wheaton and wheaton still could have one with 1 more possession. this argues against your point.

I think ncc has the ability to stay close and then put together a streaky quarter or half and win handily. I picked ncc by 10+ because I think the ncc offense is more consistent than any other they have faced and I think the ncc defense will be adequately prepared for the 1 dimensional augie offense. I do not think the passing game for augie will be a factor in the game.

I guess it comes from my belief that Wheaton is better than North Central, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.  I also think that Wheaton is better than Augustana, but Augustana did what they needed to do to win.  Good programs like Augie win games if they execute their gameplan.  Granted, Kniss is amazing, and can get a good streak going at the drop of a hat, I just believe that NC is lacking the consistency to beat Augie at this point.  It is going to be interesting regardless.

Perhaps it is just because I am a debating lightweight   ;D, but I don't understand why you would say Wheaton possibly needing only 1 more possesion to win negates my point about beating Augustana requires dominating them the whole game.  Wheaton certainly did not dominate on Guzman's 76 yard TD run.  Wheaton lost because they did not dominate Augie the entire game, even if the Thunder would have had the chance to win it at the end.

maybe i misunderstood but here is the arguement as I see it (correct me if I am wrong):

-you said "against the vikings you need to dominate the whole game" to beat them.
-I argued that's not true because wheaton did NOT dominate the game and clearly could have won even still. there are many example of Augie losing against teams that did not dominate. the best example is the 1999 loss to mt union. augie held the ball for 48 minutes to muc's 12. augie ran the ball for 300+ yds but muc won 33-24 i think. my point was that you DO NOT have to dominate augie the whole game and i would further argue that ncc does NOT have to do that either. if they are close in the second half, kniss can get it going for 2 or 3 possessions and ncc can win.

did I miss anything?

About the students at NC CardinalAlum,  I can see why the school keeps the opportunities strictly for current students, but don't agree that Alums can't come back and do the games.  I have had former players, school administrators/faculty, and former coaches come up and talk to me at various segments (more often halftimes) of the games.
You and the F-Bomb?  Naugh, I can't see that happening  :o

Now THAT would be interesting!  Come on JB, who knows more about Wheaton football than Usee(besides April)?  That would cause me to bring a radio to listen in.  Nothing like the sound of chairs being thrown in the broadcast booth!  :D  I vote for usee.

Usee-- Are you going to be at the game Saturday?
For the first 5 years my analyst was there all the time and we clicked.  Since he has gotten MARRIED  >:(  he has not been "free" to do as many games with me.  Plus, he has a new position at work that is consuming a lot of his time.  Hopefully he can be there with me the remaining 2 games and the D-3 Playoffs schedule.

Hey I have no problem  having an opposing school's voice do the games with me!  In fact, I asked Tailgater if he wanted to come and join me at the Carthage/Elmhurst game in Kenosha earlier this year.  I feel that 2 voices are better than 1 and (I would guess) easier to listen to knowing there is more than 1 mouth speaking.
Plus, often when I do D-3 Football live streams, I am paired up with a voice from a different school/region so you learn to be able to adapt to different styles.
If Usee is going to be in the area, by all means come up to the booth and talk to me.  I will have my EC Cap and EC Jacket on, at McCully's Pressbox.

I would definately do it but I am going to be out of town this weekend which is why I brought all this up in the first place. I will listen this time around. It could have been fun.......

"there's the snap from center, the fake to black and chupp is back to pass.....he's looking deep down down the right sideline, he's got fossum at the 50, the 40, the 30, 20, 10 TOUCHDOWN THUNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDEEEEEER!! AND THE TEAM FORMERLY KNOWN AS CRUSADERS TAKES A 3 TOUCHDOWN LEAD!!"

"Chairs being thrown in the background"
Hehe,  I could see it now.  "Next on the News at 10,  local college football game gets out of hand as local broadcaster Jaybird goes on a tirade in the pressbox."
Naugh, I am not violent.  But that would be somewhat comical if Fred Flintstone was to chuck a chair in the pressbox over something Barney Rubble said.  ::)

With all the talk about listening to the games online this weekend, I thought I should add that Augie will have their student radio (WAUG, waug.augustana.edu) broadcast the game from Naperville on Saturday.  They will start their broadcast at 1:45.

Jim Matson

Windy weather but nice weather tomorrow for the games in the Chicago area.  Might have an effect on the passing game in Naperville and Wheaton and will have an effect on the kicking game.

HikerJim-- I look forward to seeing tomorrow at McCully!  Except, tomorrow I will be an "Elmhurst" guy.   ;)  I will say, it was a lot of fun 9/9 doing the Wheaton/Albion game!  MR

HUGE winds in Naperville today.  Much like the playoff game against Capital.  This hurts the Cards more than Augie.  We'll see what happens.

Any one know why Chaz Black is not playing for Wheaton?
