Think of this...Wheaton and North Central end up tied.  In head-to-head competition, Wheaton defeats North Central.  Yet, North Central gets the AQ?  I hope this doesn't happen.

In the event of a 2-way tie, your fears are unjustified (Wheaton is the AQ).  In the event of a 3-way tie, you can't ignore each team's record against the third team.

Hiker,

Ypsi is right. Augie, wheaton and ncc all hve 1 conf loss to each other. under the current tie breaker formula the 3rd criteria is used which is point differential and that means NCC is the AQ.

wheaton cannot win the AQ at this point (barring a total collapse by both augie and ncc). Their only hope is to win out and get a pool C.

Also, thanks for clarifying the NCC game vs Carthage is in Naperville. The Cardinal's first CCIW championship is theirs to lose.

It would not be the Cardinals first CCIW Championship, but the first since 1960.

1960
North Central 4-1-0
Illinois Wesleyan 3-2-0
Millikin 3-2-0
Carroll 1-2-2
Augustana 1-3-1
Lake Forest 1-3-1

... Augie O-line the worst I have seen in division three.  Small and slow.  Not even close to the great line of last year.   NCC ran a goal line type D with a huge extra wide nose tackle plugging up anything up the middle.   Augustana didn't have any first downs in the first half....

Just wait until TrueAugieAlum gets ahold of this one....I can just see him/her having a field day with this game....

Go Thunder,

I know you are a big Wheaton booster, but Wheaton, or any team from the CCIW having a legitimate shot at the national championship this year is, IMO, just not going to happen.  I truly believe the quality of the CCIW is down this year and whichever team(s) make it into the playoffs, they won't win more than one game.  There are probably 3 teams in the OAC this year that are better than the best team from the CCIW.  Hopefully, we will have 2 teams make the playoffs this year and prove me wrong (not the first time this has happened), but I seriously don't see that happening.

The CCIW may be down overall Augie is definitely not the same as last year.   NCC lost a great receiver but gained a great back.  Wheaton has two of the best d backs, 2 great d linemen, three of the best receivers all who can play with anyone.   Ittersagen may be one of the best Dbacks ever in D3.  I'm watching the videotape and not ONE ball that I've see or can recall was thrown to his guy.  That happens week after week.  Yes I believe he is as fast or faster than Garson from MUC.  He proved that he was by FAR the fastest person on the field today by running down the Elmhurst player from out of know where.  I've seen many games, tape many games, in the CCIW and follow and listen to others close.  What are Wheatens weaknesses besides penalties and turnovers?  They are improving in the penalties.  If they also fix the turnovers where is any weakness or mediocre area?  To me there isn't any.  There as talented as any team in D3.

Thunder,

I'm not trying to take anything away from anyone here, but if Ittersagen is so fast, and in your words THE best DB in Division III football, then where was he when Guzman (the Augie FB) broke a 60+ yard run three weeks ago?  Not to take anything away from Guz and what he has done, but FB's are not usually known for their break away speed...

ncc with 477 yds offense

augie w 122 all rushing ( w 2 ints)

ncc had possession for 36 min to 24 for augie

I would rather play augie 10x than have to face ncc again.

great job to the two voters who picked ncc by 21+!!

NCC showed today (to me) that they have really stepped up their program and are with the big dogs.

The only question left in my mind for their program is "can they win a big one on the road". they will have a chance in 2 weeks up in Kenosha as the AQ is likely on the line.

Wheaton is playing for a Pool C right now. They also have a huge game in kenosha to keep their chances alive before finishing with a home game against IWU.

If NCC and Wheaton win out I think we will have two very good representatives in the playoffs.

Yeah its funny now that the game is over there were 3 more people that picked NCC by 21+ to make the total five. I had no doubts and had to go with NCC by 21+ who came up big. Great game by NCC today on all cylinders. They played a great football game on both sides of the ball. Kniss- outstanding, Sulo- great and a big hats off to Weinke who had the defense geared up for Augie. Also, Wes Kostellic, linebacker, 1 rushing touchdown, 1 catch for 53 yards and 6 tackles with a pass deflection. Pretty good game for a linebacker, possibly POW on defense

I agree that the passing was pathetic in that game, but the plays calls also had no creativity in the run game as well. They for some reason seem to run less counters and less outside runs this year than I have seen in the time I have followed the team. If Augie has to pass to win games they are in trouble, but the fact that they have done less and less to try to deceive the defense this year is even more distrubing.  I guess from the fan standpoint the last few seasons I had a very hard time following the ball (Roe and others had tremendous fakes), whereas this year even in the stands I have a better idea of where the ball is actually at. I agree with Augie6 about the Augie on the helmet, this game showed that the Vikings need to once again earn that right.

The play calls are also tough when you only have 10 plays to run in the first half. One of the best defensive performances I have seen in a long time by NCC.

I believe this could be the first CCIW championship.  Wasn't the conference only the CCI back then?

What an incredible afternoon.  I will be the first to admit that I was wrong.  I don't have a problem with it.  We were ready to play from the start.  Weinke and the defense were awesome!  Offense rolled.   Usee was so right about Augie not being able to throw the football.   It was as bad as he described.  Here's hoping for no letdown in these last two games.  We control our own detiny now.  That is a great place to be sitting with 2 weeks left before the playoffs!

The CCIW still claims the early years as CCIW championships on its web site. Carroll was there in '60 so that makes one Wisconsin team.

I wasn't sure.  Thanks for the clarification.

Agreed CardinalAlum and ncc_cardinal_fan.  I was wrong too. And I'm glad!!!!!!!!!!! I picked NCC to win. But, never did I figure would they win by the point differential! A total game. Offense, defense and special teams! I've never seen a Cardinal team play a total game that well against a quality opponent!!!!

It's so much more fun listening to Augie2000 and Go Thunder bicker WHEN North Central is in control of first place! ;D

Well, special teams weren't that great but they didn't give up a big play.
