since this is a board for whatifs and prognasticators, here is a shot at the north bracket if the season ended the way it is today:

the regional seedings, based on the criteria laid out by the NCAA would likely look like this:

1. muc
2. mt st joe
3. concordia WI
4. Capital
5. Wheaton
6. NCC
7. NCAC champ (witt/wabash)
8. Hope

the top 3 are undefeated and should be a no brainer by the committee. the only wild card there is possibility that capital is #3. (if capital loses to BW this all changes). Wheaton is ahead of ncc by virtue of hth and QOWI. NCAC rep and hope are at the bottom w 2 losses.

this makes the likely 1st round matchups:

Hope @ MUC
NCAC @ Mt St Joe
Wheaton @ Concordia
NCC @ Capital (committee is likely to avoid a rematch of concordia/ncc in 1st round).

this all fits nicely within the travel parameters the committee is known to revere.
there is almost no way hope will play wheaton or NCC no will the cciw have to travel to alliance til round 2 IMO. that was settled when wheaton pounded Hope up in holland earlier this fall.

usee,
I like you're thinking. A North Central/Capital rematch is interesting. The Cardinals are playing much better than they did early in the season and might pose a stronger threat to Capital than people might think.

From a Cardinals' standpoint, I would be more worried about the Carthage game the final week of the year than IWU.
The cardinals should be more worried about IWU since they play them next!

before we all start on the head coach rant of "lets focus on this week" lets remember this is a speculators board and this is the place to have fun and dream of the matchups and whatifs. that's why I post all the playoff stuff. most of it is likely to change and we all know there is some very tough CCIW football ahead.

Usee-- good points.  I agree that you need playmakers and execution. Wheaton did for most of the game, and Elmhurst didn't (on offense) for most of the game.  I think Jeremy Rivers has the potential to be something special as long as he takes care of the football.
Funny, every time I disagree with CardinalAlum  I find my Karma down the next day.

Usee,

Do you see any scenario where Wheaton and NCC would play each other in the first round?

here are Coach Ruck's comments on Millikin game and his view on the rest of the Redmen's schedule:

"That was probably as physical a game as we've played all year.  Our kids really played hard.  Offensively, we tried to spread the field out, and I think that caught Millikin by surprise.  They came into this game only allowing about 71 yards rushing per game, so we didn't think we could just ran at them.  We used a lot of different offensive looks, and that usually drives defensive coordinators crazy.  Our defense gained a lot of momentum and confidence as the game went along, and they really played a great, physical game.  I hate to talk about injuries, but we are really banged up right now, especially on defense.  I told the team before this game that we had a three-game season left and told them what an 8-2 finish would mean for the program.  We have our work cut out for us to get that accomplished, and we have to beat Wheaton (Ill.) next week to get that done."

No. that is extremely unlikely. I don't know that has ever happened when 2 teams from the same conf meet. the closest it ever got was when 2 top 5 and unbeaten texas teams (trinity and HS I believe) had to meet in round 1 because the NCAA is cheap and didn't want to pay for travel. That situation won't happen in the North bracket.

CardinalAlum- Thank you  ;D  I don't know where this "79Jaybird is the Karma Monster" topic came from.  I hardly ever dish out + and/or - Karma to anybody.  I am much more interested in what is written anyway.
