new top 25 is out. wheaton moves up 1 spot to #24.

Capital dropped one spot to #5, so they should remain #2 in the regional rankings.

don't count on it. d3 fb is the top 25 and NCAA does the regional rankings. as we have seen, the NCAA pays little attention to the experts.

It should be noted that Stormin Norm Eash is chair of the North committee and rep on the national committee and wheaton's Mike Swider is on the North committee for regional ranking puposes.

On the Pool C board, Mr. Ypsi brings up and interesting and very possible "what if".

augie, ncc, and wheaton all stumble and carthage wins out, setting up a 4 way tie.

the first criteria is head to head and only augie and carthage would be 2-1 vs the others. the question then becomes if you reapply the criteria then augie gets the AQ by virtue of hth w carthage. I think that's how it would work and as a group the CCIW should change its name and go into hiding for sending a team that lost to millikin to the playoffs.

So I guess what you're saying is there is no chance for a pool C bid in this scenario!

If we got one we should give it back.

Interesting, but not bloody likely. Augie's only hope is that they win out and somehow North Central figures out a way to lose one of their last two. Also not bloody likely.

Also, congrats to Mugsy and Mugsy's mom and Mugsy's brother and sister-in-law, and Mugsy's new nephew!

The non-NCAA rankings mean little.  I posted the NCAA rankings here yesterday afternoon and we'll all see them again on Tuesday.

I realize that the Pool C bid is a national one, but in football versus basketball, the regions still are very meaningful.  Thus I focus more on the regional rankings than in basketball.

here are Coach Ruck's comments on Millikin game and his view on the rest of the Redmen's schedule:

"That was probably as physical a game as we've played all year.  Our kids really played hard.  Offensively, we tried to spread the field out, and I think that caught Millikin by surprise.  They came into this game only allowing about 71 yards rushing per game, so we didn't think we could just ran at them.  We used a lot of different offensive looks, and that usually drives defensive coordinators crazy.  Our defense gained a lot of momentum and confidence as the game went along, and they really played a great, physical game.  I hate to talk about injuries, but we are really banged up right now, especially on defense.  I told the team before this game that we had a three-game season left and told them what an 8-2 finish would mean for the program.  We have our work cut out for us to get that accomplished, and we have to beat Wheaton (Ill.) next week to get that done."

That's telling info. Carthage as a team will never quit playing hard-nose, all-out football. They truly believe they can overcome adversity and win every game they play. This is credit to great coaching as they have instilled this kind of determination in their players. Carthage has lost a lot of their key players over the coarse of the season, 2 more broken limbs on the defensive side this saturday. Their depth is being tested, but their determination is unwavered. On the positive side, a lot of young talent has been able to receive valuable playing time that will only serve to keep Carthage strong next year. Wheaton and NCC to finish the season is a tall order, but I know Carthage has the moxy to turn the CCIW on it's head over the next 2 weeks.

Congrads to NCC and St Louis, seems it was a Cardinal week.  If the Augie players are made to take off their logos, so should the coaches.  You win as a team and you lose as a team.  The offensive play calling set the stage for the loss, too much time for defense on the field, of course playing zone instead of man-to-man defense the first half didn't help.  Kniss is a talented QB.  Would just once like to see Augie start the game throwing the ball, would help keep the defense honest.  But we don't try till we've lost the game and then they're more like Hail Marys.  Saw numerous short passes against Baldwin in the second half, everyone netted a first down, haven't seen one since.  Well on to next week and the week after.

HikerJim-- I missed you at Wheaton on Saturday.  I thought I was going to see you pop in and say hello in the booth.  I guess we will have to wait for (hopefully) the playoffs and we can talk again at McCully's Pressbox.
Mugsy, Congratulations to your Mother and Brother's family.  I will bring the newborn baby Bluejay booties!   ;D
