Mr. Ypsi

RedmenFB44,

Based on stats alone, O'Boyle far outshines "Chump" [Chupp].  Could you present your rationale for the Thunder QB over your own guy?  Seems surprising.

Yes O'Boyle has the better stats as of right now but CHUPP's  ;) team is in better postion to win or a share of the conference. O'Boyle is a better pure athlete and he is only a soph. He is still developing. These next 2 weeks will be very telling. If O'Boyle continues to play well and can win at least 1 of these 2 final games (Wheaton and @NCC), I would switch those two. As of right now Chupp gets the edge with a better team and more experience. *Subject To Change*  :D

Unbeknownst to me, they are familiar with the Carthage football team in Scotland:

The red men are often, wrongly, interpreted as being demons or devils. Far from being this they are a personification of the need in all of us to let loose and go wild just once in our lives. Their very reason for existence is simply to 'throw a spanner in the works', to divert the path of fate. But despite their best efforts, these random agents are always thwarted, often with comical results.

Check http://www.beltane.org/bestiary/red.html for further information.

MB, I give you an enthusiastic golf clap for this clever bit of research.  ;)

Quote from: zorbadagreek on October 30, 2006, 03:08:07 PMHow bad of a thumping does anyone think Auggie will give NP?? If Wheaton put 70 something on them, I believe Auggie will do worse, especially coming off of that loss. Hate to be NP on Saturday!!! :o My prediction.....80-0!!!! Auggie could score more if they wanted to.

NPU has lost plenty of routs to Augie before, Zorba. Just taking the past seven years into consideration, Augie has beaten NPU by an average of over 31 points per contest. They've won by as many as 50 over that stretch (58-8 in '02), and I can remember at least two or three occasions over the years in which Augustana broke the 60-point mark against the Park. They've topped 70 at least once that I can remember. Mind you, these are all scores that I've read about in the paper rather than [shudder] watched firsthand.  ;)

So you're neither breaking new ground nor raising anybody's blood pressure with your "bold" prediction that NPU is going to get its lunch handed to it on Saturday.

In my 20 years around the CCIW, I have seen some great QB's.  Kniss is right there with any of them.  Some of the best that I remember include Dave Weber-Carroll, John Love-NP, My QB Marc Browning, who could do it all, Lon Erickson-IWU, Brylka, Demma, P. Brown were all solid as well.  Bishop stands alone.  He was great and holds most every passing record.

What? No Jeremy Walsh? *cough*

Here are my CCIW all-conference picks at this point of the season. *Always subject to change*  :D

*Stats are only the 5 CCIW games*

Quarterback:
1st Team - Kniss (NCC) 99-155 63.9% 1118yds 12TDs/3INTs 129 RushYds

2nd Team - Chupp (Wheaton) 52-97 53.6% 752yds 8TDs/6INTs 115 RushYds

3rd Team - O'Boyle (Car) 77-122 63.1% 842yds 6TD's/6INT's 306 RushYds

Running Back:
1st Team - Wallick (Mill) 108Att 552yds 5.1 3TD's

2nd Team - Black (Wheaton) 79Att 403yds 5.1 3TD's (Only 3 CCIW games)

3rd Team - Sulo (NCC) 96Att 515yds 5.4 3TD's

Wide Receiver:
1st Team - Ceisel (IWU) 24Rec 368yds 15.3 6TD's

2nd Team - Watts (NP) 28Rec 390yds 13.9 2TD's (Only 4 CCIW games)

3rd Team - Fossum (Wheaton) 16Rec 345yds 21.6 4TD's

Tight End:
1st Team - Stuedemann (NCC) 32Rec 339yds 10.6 6TD's

2nd Team - Bergman (Car) 13Rec 168 12.9 2TD's

3rd Team - Klein (IWU) 3Rec 92yds 30.7 0TD's

It seems that I have no one from Augie beacause their offense splits stats so they really don't have a dominating statistical player. Guzman would be 4th team RB if there was one. I know for sure Augie will have plenty of all-conference players on the defensive side of the ball  ;D

Excellent job, I tend to agree with the players that you've named. Just a few minor quibbles, I might flip flop Ceisel and Watts. Guzman is the best FB in the conference and may get consideration as a running back. If the three way tie lasts, NCC, Wheaton, and Augie will dominate the All Conference selections and they'll throw a couple biscuits towards Elmhurst and Carthage. Just the way it is. Guzman, Wallick, and Black will be 1st team. Sulo and Dunlop will be 2nd team (Dunlop was 2nd team last year).

All Conference picks?  Still a little early with 2 weeks and some big matchups left to play but here is what I would name if I was the voter
pos.  1st team       2nd team           3rd team
QB     Kniss             Panno                 Chupp
RB     Wallick           Black                  Dunlop
WR    Haldeman      Cooley Jr.          Chupp/Young
TE     Klein               Augie's TE

Let's get real. Klein may get consideration at OT but not TE. He has 0 receptions for the season. Stuedeman  is 2nd in the conference in receptions per game, 4th in reception yardage, and tied for first in points. Technically, he plays the H-Back position but lines up at TE as well. The CCIW coaches will find a place for him on the All Conference team.

No chance that both Cooley and Young get All Conference consideration. You'll be lucky to get one of them. Ceisel was All Conference last year as a freshman, He will repeat this year.

I have been keeping with you all most of the season.  Appreciate the dialogue.

Wondering if you all have discussed Kniss as he relates to other CCIW quarterbacks in recents years.  I have seen him a few times.  He seems pretty good to me.  Wonder if you all have seen anybody better in the CCIW in the last five to ten years?

Best CCIW qb's I have seen in the last 10 years are in order:

1-Lon Erickson IWU
2-Kam Kniss NCC
3-Tim Hardy Wheaton
4-Tim Bylka Mill

(if you go back 11 years I would add Jeff Brown WHE as #1a)

Last 10 years from Augie ( a separate qb distinction):
1. Schmullbach
2. King
3. Roe

No, but I will say Jeremy Walsh was one of the toughest football players I have ever seen.

My rankings of best CCIW QB's of the last 25 yrs would be:

1. Keith Bishop Wheaton
2. Dave Weber Carroll
3. Lon Ericson IWU
4. Jeff Brown Wheaton
5. Kam Kniss NCC
6. Tom Monken IWU
7. John Rooney IWU
8. John Love NPU
9. Doug Moews IWU
10. Tim Hardy Wheaton
11. Tim Brylka Mill

Keith Bishop is a tough one. He is without question the tops based on stats alone but he was physically less talented than anyone else on this list. Very smart and accurate. Multiple 500+ yd passing games.

Good point about the Augie QB, there should be a separate category to be eligible for All Conference in applicable years.  King was amazing IMO.  He always hit you with a dagger when you thought you had them down.  I remember a 45 or 50 yard pass (yep, you saw it correctly) he threw in the 1995 game vs. Wheaton in the middle of the 4th quarter that put Augie in position to stay in the game, which they did until the end, when they came up short.   ;D  Anyway, he was in traffic and threw it off his back foot.  The receiver dove for it and caught it.  Anyone have any recollection of this besides me?

Usee - you have an amazing grasp of the CCIW.  I am thinking you are right on with Kniss in the middle of the pack and Bishop on top.   Wondering who will be next to crack the top ten in the CCIW?
