Mr. Ypsi

Comet 14

A couple of really good games this weekend in Wheaton at Carthage and Millikin at Elmhurst. Good luck to alll the CCIW teams.

Here's a question for those on this board wiser than me.(and that leaves things pretty wide open) If Carthage wins this weekend does that make the perception of our conference stronger or weaker since that pretty much eliminates an extra play-off team.

Reporter: What kind of plane is it?
Johnny: Oh, it's a big pretty white plane with a red stripes, curtains at the windows, wheels, and it just looks like a big Tylenol.

And I have seen the play of some of the BIG players who are standing on the sideline.  Believe me when I say that the offensive coaching staff is moronic!!

TAA,

Let's step back and take a look at this.  I really don't think the Augie coaches have all of a sudden forgotten how to evaluate the talent on the field.   If your son, oops, I mean if these big players, aren't on the field, it's because they probably are not better than the guys in front of them.  No coach in his right mind is going to sit a better player that can help him win a game unless there is some sort of disciplinary or academic case.

Yeah, they have been showing it all year!

I suppose I should be just like you and be happy with a losing team year after year  :-*

I'm not sure you're ever gonna get these other guys off the movie quotes long enough for an answer, so I'll try (even though I probably don't fit the criterion of "wiser than [you]"!)

The lack of a second team definitely would hurt.

Otherwise, it probably varies depending on whether a given observer uses the top-to-bottom criterion, or the strength-at-the-top standard.  For those with the t-t-b view, it may well indicate the relative parity at at least a fairly high level of the CCIW (adherents of this view, including Pat and many if not most at d3football.com, see the WIAC as definitely the #1 conference).  Our stock might rise.

For those with the s-a-t-t perspective, it would probably hurt (though maybe not much), since it might lower Wheaton MORE than it raises Carthage (adherents of this view generally see the OAC [MUC, Cap, BW, ONU, and perhaps JCU and OWU] as the premier conference, discounting as unimportant that teams like Heidelberg, Wilmington, Muskingum, etc., would perennially finish dead-last in the WIAC).

Carthage a losing team every year? Carthage has been on the rise since that 2004 season. They still have some work to do to be in that upper tier but I wouldn't call them a losing team. I don't know what your problem is with augie but they are a very storied program. And just because linemen on the sidelines are bigger, it doesn't mean their better. I think their coaching staff knows what they are doing. Someone really needs to pull that stick out of TAA's rear end  :D I say Mugsy does it  ;D
