Hey CardinalAlum-- I was looking at the Little Brass Bell yesterday when I was talking to Coach Hardy at Wheaton,  how come the Cardinals did not put up the tag with 2005's score on it?

???  News to me.  I can't believe that wasn't done in a year's time.  Maybe we figured we would have it for more than one year!  :'(

Either that or Mugsy took it!  :P  Was the 1987 one still on there?  If that one is missing, it was DEFINITELY Mugsy!

Are any attempts to correct this made. NO
Are any other players given a chance to compete for a spot NO
Does Augie practice defense against passing offense, even when they are scheduled to play a team known for their passing game NO
Does Augie offense practice passing plays - one or two plays in a week of practices

So you know for a fact that not a single other offensive player is even considered to be moved up into a starting role?  And you know exactly how many passing plays they practice the entire week?

On top of that, you even know for a fact exactly what the Augie defense practices against the entire week?

You know an awful lot of details about Augustana's practices obviously.  Are you a coach?   Are you a player?   Are you one of the guys from Varsity Blues that pulls up a lawnchair to watch practice all week?

Things are never as good as they seem and things are never as bad as they seem.

Hehe CardinalAlum  I will have to go back and see.  I just thought that NC would have put the 2005 sticker (as a sign of team pride)  after the season last year.  Not a big woopdy doo, but still.
Actually on the Little Brass Bell Trophy, there isn't much room left on this rung.  They are going to have to put another rung on the trophy in about 2-3 years.  (Similar to the Stanley Cup rungs)

RMFB44-

Sorry about CLC's run for the championship being cut short.  How are the other Fox Valley Conference teams doing?  I really think they should have a conference championship game like some college conferences that are that big.

I know Jacobs had a huge upset win over a 5 seed. CL South, Cary, and PR. I know those 4 are still in it. CLC made the playoffs and thats a huge step for them!
It's REDMEN not RED MEN

Superfoot Wallace

The OAC used to have conference championships for red and blue divisions.  Kept Baldwin Wallace and Wittenberg out of the 1978 playoffs as they were playing eachother for the conference championship the first week of the national tournament.
See that, that spells Adidas

IBC teams usually don't lose to CCIW teams and certainly not to their top teams. Concordia has proven it is at a different level than the rest of the IBC.

usee:
I assume you ment IBC teams usually lose (not don't lose) to CCIW teams??

yes, thanks. corrected

Mugsy, I hope you might be coming to the game as well. Please feel welcome to join us tailgating. I would sure like the opportunity to meet you.

Seeing that it is a big game and it is only 1 1/2 hour drive, I'm working on "the missus" to see if I can make the game - maybe take on of the twins, etc... I'll keep you posted.  I'd love to make the game and it would be great to meet other CCIW posters.

Mugsy,

young kids and tailgating at a carthage game?? are you nuts? your wife definately will veto that plan.

I'll be joining you on the internet listening in.

Is the offense this year comparable with any offense from the glory years of the 80's NO

Actually, as Augie6 pointed out earlier, this year's offense is comparable to the '86 championship team's. Definitely not as good, but comparable. This horse has been beaten to death, but those teams were built around defense. The biggest difference between recent Viking teams and the glory years is defense. Here are the numbers for this year's team and the '86 team. The defensive fall-off is much more stark than on offense:

OFFENSE                         2006    1986
--------------------------------------------
Off. Points Per Game..........  20.5    29.5
Average Per Rush..............   4.5     4.3
Rushing Yards Per Game........ 244.0   287.1
Passing Yards Per Game........  46.2    52.6
Completion Pct................ 44.0%   40.7%
Total Yards Per Play..........   4.5     4.7
Total Yards Per Game.......... 290.2   339.7
Turnovers Per Game............   1.1     2.5

DEFENSE                         2006    1986
--------------------------------------------
Points Per Game Allowed.......  15.5     5.6
Average Per Rush Allowed......   3.5     0.8
Rushing Yards Per Game Allowed 111.1    25.7
Passing Yards Per Game........ 160.9   134.0
Completion Pct Allowed........ 55.0%    41.5%
Total Yards Per Play Allowed..   4.8     2.7
Total Yards Per Game.......... 272.0   159.7
Takeaways Per Game............   1.9     4.8

This is definitely the poorest offensive team Augie' had in 26 years and if they need to change direction, fine. But simply throwing the ball more isn't going to get it done. They tried that earlier in the year and it didn't work. If they change offensive schemes, they'll have to recruit players to suit a new system and my suspicion is that there will be a transitional period that makes this year look like a picnic. My (long-winded) point is, getting back into national championship contention is going to take more than focusing on one side of the ball.

We supply plenty of hot chocolate, bottled water & soda. Tailgating at Carthage is more about fellowship and comradary than the bar scene you seem to imply. ;D

dansand:
Nicely stated with the stat comparison! Looks like the Augie D makes more of an impact on the teams success than the offense. Winning is winning. Does it make TAA or others feel any better if Augie wins with a different style offense. I'm not so sure it should.
