Make or break games:

Augustana v Millikin:  This is an intriguing match-up to me.  Millikin's defense appears to be top of the line, will their offense score enough points.  If the Big Blue can jump out to a lead, it might be an interesting game.  Although Augie's chances for the playoffs are not dead, they must win to keep the hope alive.  Stranger things have happened than both Wheaton and North Central losing.  A win by Millikin will prove what some have been saying all along that the Big Blue is better than their record indicates.

Actually, Wheaton is irrelevant to Augie's playoff chances. Augie needs to beat Millikin and for North Central to lose and AC would be the AQ.

This weekend's Wheaton v Illinois Wesleyan game brought to you by Dunlop tennis rackets, perfect for preventing running backs from being quoted in the newspaper.  http://www.dunlopsport.com.au/catalogue.asp?PID=76

Note: I also used this joke over on the Pick 'ems board, but wanted to get it out to those who may never venture over there.

The game is also presented by the Dunlop Crybaby, synonymous with certain IWU running backs.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunlop_Cry_Baby

Excellent Mugsy! +K for a guitar-related reference! I actually own a Crybaby...A fine product.

79Jaybird  Cory Haim is far from a role model.  A few other REDMEN and I that post were there when they made the movie.  They used our track around the game field for many scenes.  Cory Haim used to have to take big breaks after shooting a scene of him running on the track and he would have a smoke each time.  We yelled things at them to pick on them.  We also had two of our football teamates in the movie in the track scenes.  If anyone remembers a pair of twin brothers that played for Carthage in the mid 90s named the Robinsons  (Dennis & Donald) , they ran against the big stars during the movie.  But the Robinsons were also real track stars with records so the first few takes the Robinsons just lit the burners and lapped the stars around the track.  We had almost the whole team watching the scene just before practice and we were dying with laughter.  The movie people were mad at us for picking on their stars.
We will always be REDMEN

A few weeks ago there had been some discussion about NPU's recently opened Helwig Center.  NPU updated their website to include some photos that have a picture of the weight room and some of the other facilities.

Hopefully this helps with and retaining recruits:

Only 5 posts back from the OAC board!!! This is exciting or I just have a lot of time on my hands  ;D

Alas, barring the unexpected, they will be back in front by 15-20 pages and 150-200 posts by the end of the Stagg Bowl!  But for now we are only 4 posts back. ;)

we will just have to put some daylight between them and us until that time. Lets get the movie quotes rolling!! :D

Good strategy, usee - we now lead by over 100 posts! ;)

Of course, staying in the playoffs for at least a couple of rounds would also help! ;D

79jaybird

Redmen96 that was my point. Haim is a druggy and NOT somebody that you would want to introduce your Daughter to.  The film I know about him and trivia about is "Lucas" which was filmed in 1986 at Glenbard West in Glen Ellyn.  The Football Team that had the "P" Letterman jackets and Red/White jerseys was actually Palatine's Football Team.

CardinalAlum-- You asked me the million dollar question that I have been thinking about as the end of the year approaches.  How/Can/Will Elmhurst be able to replenish this great Senior Class that has put together a solid foundation on defense, and will walk out with more wins over a 4 year span since the Class of 1985?
Elmhurst loses 18 Seniors, which is a lot for any program whether they are successful or not.  Of these 18 Seniors, 12 are starters and 3 more get a considerable amount of playing time.
I think the greatest concern is on defense and finding replacements for the holes vacated by Irps, Keaton, Heffernan, and LB Ward Brady.  These are 4 quality fb players that would have a starting spot on ANY defense.
In 2007 I look for Mobley (although I have heard he might move to offense, which he played in HS)  Kelly, and Victor to fill in on the line.  Linebackers will be o.k. with Scardullo  and Puzon.  The secondary will be solid but not very deep with Ambriz and Maple.  Like any team each year, you have holes to fill.
Offensively, I look forward to Chris Kudyba coming back.  In my heart, I feel that if we had the veteran leadership in Kudyba, Elmhurst doesn't lose 4 games.  I think they lose 2, but the other 2 could have had a different story, if we had a Vet QB at the helm.  That is not to say that Mike LaFleur has done a phenomenal job as a Soph, being thrust into action cold and giving the team a chance at 7 wins here in '06  Offensively, won't have as many vacancies and should be decent.
Coach Journell is proud that all 18 Seniors are GRADUATING!  :D ;D  Which is the most important thing.

playoff projections are out on the front page (daily dose at the top). Pat has missed 2 matchups in 3 years or some unbelievable level accuracy. He has the North as we have discussed:

Hope @MUC
Witt @msj
NCC@CUW (or visa versa if press box is issue)
Wheaton @cap.

if bw beats cap this weekend then i think franklin sneaks into this bracket and travels to wheaton. BW is the first 2 loss team that will be considered and if they get in they may get moved east.

Mr. Ypsi

Go Thunder,

I came to your defense when you got off to a very bad start on this board (and will do so again if warranted), but that has to be the single stupistest post in the history of the CCIW board!

"I'm sure the ACLU would love that."  Leave that excellent organization out of your screed (they would DEFEND your right to say it), since they only deal with GOVERNMENT intrusions, not d3sports.com.

"Words are a gift from God and have meaning....It is not for man to change words..."  You mean the ever evolving English, Swahili, Hindi, etc., languages are ALL dictated by God - He must be one busy dude!!  (My Bible implies that all languages are a CURSE from God for the sin of hubris at the Tower of Babel!)

"... a false religion ..."  I won't even bother with this one.

"Although in today's culture we respect every religion except Christianity..."  Yeah, I guess that explains why Muslims are being victimized by hate crimes around the country, while "Christian" conservatives (actually, IMO, right-wing radicals who have taken real Christian conservatives for a ride) have been running the country for the last 6 (arguably, 12) years.

"This will be displayed when Buddhist points are given or taken."  I seriously doubt that anyone on the board thinks of these as Buddhist points - they are given for wise (or at least civil) posts, and taken for stupid (or uncivil) posts.  I gave you 3 or 4 points early on (when you were below zero) because I saw promise.  Today I took away one because I found this post profoundly offensive.

AndOne

I am a new poster whose field of expertise is basketball, but who, being a former wide receiver, also loves football. As such, I enjoy reading the football boards, especially the CCIW board as I reside in I portion of its territory.

Its late, and the brain is tired--therefore I will not even attempt to be as eloquent as Mr. Ypsi with who I agree 100% in that I too was thoroughly offended by Go Thunder's post.

This is the place for D3 athletic related discussion. Every subject has its place. I believe religion's place is in church, not here. I won't try to impose my religious ideas on you, and would appreciate it if you didn't try to preach to me.

Religion is NOT the answer to everything. Also, if you claim to be religious, I believe you should not necessarily accept other religions, but be tolerant of them.
I've said enough.
Good-night.
Peace to all  :)

********************** DISCLAIMER **********************************
I am not a Buddhist.  I am offended by the KARMA system.  Why don't we have Holy Spirit points?  I'm sure the ACLU would love that.  But I'm sure they have no problem using the word karma.  Words are a gift from God and have meaning.  In the beginning was the Word – Christ himself – I am the way the TRUTH – etc..

It is not for man to change words to blur the lines of religion.  That is sin.  I will never participate in this point system as it stands currently.  The theologian DR. Ravi Zacharias in his series "Lessons from War in a Battle of Ideas" supports and clearly states this. So do many other theologians.  One could use agreeability etc... That would make sense.  But I will not participate in this word from what I believe to be a false religion. Please stop giving and taking so called Karma points.  If I have a bad post one can easily use the report to moderator button.  Also I see very little grace given especially to new posters.   I hope and pray that people on this board will respect my wishes.  Although in today's culture we will respect every religion except Christianity, which is the whipping boy of secular progressives.  If one doesn't stand for truth they will fall for a lie. I know that it probably wasn't set up this way on purpose and I have the deepest respect for Pat and the promotion of D3 sports.  This will be displayed when Karma (Buddhist) points are given or taken.
Karma
1.Hinduism, Buddhism. action, seen as bringing upon oneself inevitable results, good or bad, either in this life or in a reincarnation: in Hinduism one of the means of reaching Brahman.
2. Theosophy. the cosmic principle according to which each person is rewarded or punished in one incarnation according to that person's deeds in the previous incarnation
3. fate; destiny.

Can we stick to football and stop this BS please. I don't care you believe in but keep it off this board. If you have a problem with the word KARMA then don't use it but don't preach to us about how it doesn't conform to your religion. If you are offened by the Karma thing the get the HELL out! Yeah I said hell are you gonna bring that up to the ALCU or your preacher? The more I read your post, the more I get mad. It's people like you are way to self consumed. People like you are way too soft these days. You are complaning about a points system on a D3 football site. Get a life! Worry about having God or whoever save you. I'm not a Christian basher by any means but keep you own religion and beliefs to yourself. Ok I'm done with this because I don't want to say anything real mean  :D

Back to football this weekend...

I really hope Carthage doesn't lay down and get rolled by NCC. Make NCC earn that share of the conference title and the automatic bid. Give NCC a hard fought game that can get them ready for a tough playoff run. Also nice article about NCC on the front page.

I am sure you would really be mad to know that some even call it South Park.

Not me I have heard other players from other schools say it during games.

Mad? Hardly. NPU students call it that themselves. They even titled the annual April Fool's edition of the North Park Press the "South Park Press" a few years back and tried their hand at copying Trey Parker's and Matt Stone's humor within it.

It fits the football team even better than the school, since the players often look like Cartman and the team lasts about as long as Kenny in most CCIW games.  ;)

It's neither subtle nor original.

.........and now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

North Central is featured on the front page (as mentioned by remenfb44). There is a more in depth look at NCC's season in Around the Region and I was surprised to read this quote from John Thorne:

"We lost two of our first five games and we weren't planning on that to happen," Thorne said. "We knew it would be tough from that point on. When the season started, we thought we would be a better team than what we were last year and right now we are. We just stumbled a couple of times early, so we still have to prove to everybody that we are a better team."

a better team than last year?? WOW. I am beginning to believe he's right but that is a really strong statment given who was on the NCC team last year.
