It should be noted that of the 247 yards Wheaton had rushing against NCC, almost all of it occurred in the 2nd half.

It should also be noted that wheaton ran the ball most of the time out of a passing set. I believe the threat of the pass for wheaton put north central in a pass defense defense and gave wheaton an advantage in the second half as they ran the ball with only 5 or 6 in the box against ncc. It couldn't have been only this since elmhursts running game also is employed from the shotgun but the wheaton O with Chaz Black has a distinct advantage in this set in my view.

Updated regional rankings, though I'm not sure much has changed for the North Region.  Actually I believe it is identical to last weeks.

North Region
No. School, In-Region, Overall
1. Mount Union 9-0 9-0
2. Mount St. Joseph 9-0 9-0
3. Capital 8-1 8-1
4. Concordia (Wis.) 10-0 10-0
5. Wheaton 8-1 8-1
6. Franklin 8-1 8-1
7. Baldwin-Wallace 7-2 7-2
8. North Central 7-2 7-2
9. Wittenberg 6-2 6-3
10. Wabash 7-2 7-2

the committtee has clearly positioned the seedings to help the matchups they foresee in round 1.

Hope @MUC
Witt @MSJ
NCC@Cap
Wheaton@CUW

if CUW has a pressbox problem, wheaton will host.

If BW beats cap franklin is in, wheaton gets a home game and the rest of the region is in flux depending on outcomes of other pool c games saturday because the north will have too many teams if BW gets in too.

Just a clarification (I know you are well aware of this, but some may not be up on playoff selection rules): while the North Region playoffs have 8 teams, that doesn't necessarily mean 8 North Region teams make the playoffs.  It could be 7, it could be 9 or 10.  Although it usually only happens once or twice a year, teams can be (and have been) moved to a different region.

The selection committee is not historically very kind to 2nd place teams from traditionally weak conferences.  If BW beats Cap, I'm not REAL sure that Franklin will make it.  Depending on how many one-loss C teams lose Saturday, it could be Franklin, it could be BW, it could be both of them (heck, it could even be all 3 of them)!

"I'm sure the ACLU would love that."  Leave that excellent organization out of your screed (they would DEFEND your right to say it), since they only deal with GOVERNMENT intrusions

Like the Boy Scouts? ;)

Dan,

The ACLU has never gone after the Boy Scouts, as such (as a private organization they can do pretty much anything they want).  The suit was whether or not they could use government facilities (e.g., schools) since they were in violation of local laws prohibiting discrimination by religion (no atheists allowed) and by sexual orientation (no gays allowed).

Actually, I agree wholeheartedly with that position. I don't think the government needs to be funding private organizations (or individuals) whether they discriminate or not. That way they can remain entirely private organizations and as you said, do pretty much anything they want. That said, I believe early in their dispute they did attempt to force the Boy Scouts to change their policies by claiming that they were, in and of themselves, a public accomodation. In other words, a totally separate issue from the use of gov't facilities. Oh well, sorry for getting off the football topic.

Mr. Ypsi

Dan,

I agree it is time for the board to return to fbball - I've sent you a PM.

Redmen96

Is there any word on who if any of the Carthage injuries will be able to play Saturday?

A simple "Sunday at 2pm ET." would have been fine.
It's REDMEN not RED MEN

CardinalAlum-- You asked me the million dollar question that I have been thinking about as the end of the year approaches.  How/Can/Will Elmhurst be able to replenish this great Senior Class that has put together a solid foundation on defense, and will walk out with more wins over a 4 year span since the Class of 1985?
Elmhurst loses 18 Seniors, which is a lot for any program whether they are successful or not.  Of these 18 Seniors, 12 are starters and 3 more get a considerable amount of playing time.

JB - Having 18 seniors says alot about Elmhurst's football program. NCC has not had nearly that many. Coach Thorne has always said that he needs 20 seniors to be a successful program. 18 sounds like a lot. I'll have to look through the season's programs of all the teams to see how many seniors other CCIW teams have. Interesting...........

It was simple. That's why I posted it on the front page. There's news on this site too, you know, not just a message board.

CardinalDad, you're right.  The successful football programs at any school usually have starters that are majority Seniors.  Senior Leadership is not just a catch phrase or slogan, but very true.  Guys that have been through the ups and downs in their first 3 years, to lead the program in their Senior Campaign.  I too would be curious to see how many Senior Starters are on each CCIW Starting Lineup.
Just a rough guess, I bet each team has at least 7 Seniors starting, and the mean for all 8 schools is probably 9-10ish.

Again, Kudos to the Elmhurst program for having so many players stick around. I'm impressed.

In response to the senior leadership thoughts, how many total recruits did Elmhurst have when the seniors were freshmen?  I'd wonder to see the attrition rates at all CCIW schools.  I'd also venture to say that the schools with the lowest levels of attrition, and not just the most starting seniors or seniors on the team, may have the better records in the CCIW.  It woudl be interesting to see.  Anyone up for the challenge?  Anyone.....Anyone......Bueller?

I agree TitanBacker. I too believe that the schools with the lowest levels of attrition rates and not just most starting seniors should have the better records. It would be interesting! However, I am not up to the task.

********************** DISCLAIMER **********************************
I am not a Buddhist.  I am offended by the KARMA system.  Why don't we have Holy Spirit points?  I'm sure the ACLU would love that.  But I'm sure they have no problem using the word karma.  Words are a gift from God and have meaning.  In the beginning was the Word – Christ himself – I am the way the TRUTH – etc..

It is not for man to change words to blur the lines of religion.  That is sin.  I will never participate in this point system as it stands currently.  The theologian DR. Ravi Zacharias in his series "Lessons from War in a Battle of Ideas" supports and clearly states this. So do many other theologians.  One could use agreeability etc... That would make sense.  But I will not participate in this word from what I believe to be a false religion. Please stop giving and taking so called Karma points.  If I have a bad post one can easily use the report to moderator button.  Also I see very little grace given especially to new posters.   I hope and pray that people on this board will respect my wishes.  Although in today's culture we will respect every religion except Christianity, which is the whipping boy of secular progressives.  If one doesn't stand for truth they will fall for a lie. I know that it probably wasn't set up this way on purpose and I have the deepest respect for Pat and the promotion of D3 sports.  This will be displayed when Karma (Buddhist) points are given or taken.
Karma
1.Hinduism, Buddhism. action, seen as bringing upon oneself inevitable results, good or bad, either in this life or in a reincarnation: in Hinduism one of the means of reaching Brahman.
2. Theosophy. the cosmic principle according to which each person is rewarded or punished in one incarnation according to that person's deeds in the previous incarnation
3. fate; destiny.

CardinalDad,  This year's Elmhurst Senior Class has been by far the most productive, successful, and beneficial for the program since the mid-80's.  While this is a product of the Senior's play on the field, I think you have to give credit to former HC and current AD Paul Krohn and current HC Tom Journell.   Today's Elmhurst FB Team "is not" without the hard efforts by both gentlemen.
Yes, we fell short in a few games (that I felt we could have won all but 1 game)  but assuming we take care of business Sat.  we finish with a winning record 3 of the last 4 seasons.  Like Bob Wiley's Book "Baby Steps" (which movie?  :P )  one must learn to stand up and walk, before he/she can run.
Truth be told though, if you can't start winning these close games in crunch time, then the program won't get to the 7, 8, 9+ win totals.
