TitanBacker,

How do the alumni feel about Norm?  Do you see the school making any changes?

Unless there is some surprise, I don't see that there will be a coaching change in any of the conference schools.

Ruining someone's season can be quite satifying.  Just ask Mugsy about Wheaton defeating Carroll.

Man, that was a great win.  We didn't have a whole lotta love for Carroll and to knock them out of the playoffs was beyond satisfying.

The one difference between Wheaton that year and IWU this year was that we were still vying for a playoff spot ourselves.  The win against Carroll, along with a 7-0 victory over Olivet Nazarene the following week in a total mud bowl, resulted in a 7-2 record.

It ended up that there was 1 at large playoff spot in the North Region with 4-5 teams all with 7-2 records (including Wheaton).  Obviously we didn't get the committee votes. >:(

I'm hoping Augie takes that approach to their game against Millikin!

CardinalDad, you asked me how does Elmhurst look for 2007 and if I think it was a disappointing year?
I did not think that on November 11 we would be fighting for win #6.  Losing our QB first game of the year was tough, but the team regrouped.  The Millikin loss last week really hurts.  At home, a 2-6 Millikin Team (and I know their record doesn't justify 2-6), it is Senior Day,  I thought EC would be able to attain win #6 and be fighting for win #7 this week.  So yes, I agree with you that assuming they beat NPU,  6-4, 3-4 is good, but there is a lot of room for improvement.
2007, ah  let's finish 2006 off first.  :P  Obviously losing 18 Seniors is going to be a challenge to replace, but I have confidence in our Head Coach and players that they will be putting out a good squad @ Benedictine 7:30 (whatever date in '07) under the lights and knock off the Eagles.

MatBlake-- You beat me to the punch.  Right after I posted that I realized that Dreyfuss (Dr. Marvin) was the Shrink who wrote the book and Murray (Bob) was the patient.  One of my all time favorite movies, my favorite scene is the one where he is on "Good Morning America".

On a sad note, one of the Carthage Football Players (not going to name him), lost his Father  unexpectedly.  My heart goes out to the young man.
Coach Rucks told me today that out of 185 players on the roster,  ALL BUT 8 REDMEN are going to his Father's Wake today in Highland Park.  What an uplifting gesture by Carthage during a tragic event.   Also a great sign of Team Unity, along with showing that life is more important than football!

I believe they had the right QB in Ryan Freund and they never utilized him.....Bys starting LaFleur....WHo is a great QB dont get me wrong....But I Would have started Freund over Kudyba and I would have started him every game after Kudyba went down

Story on the front page of D3football.com all week. You should check in on occasion.

A simple "Sunday at 2pm ET." would have been fine.

It was simple. That's why I posted it on the front page. There's news on this site too, you know, not just a message board.

My bad

Dont worry Redman!,  I picked up on your Billy Madison Quote.  I would have probably responded the same way if I was in your shoes :)

Thanks FormerCard and yes you did up that quote. + Karma for you!

I'm not sure anything Augie does on Saturday is really going to have much effect on Wheaton (assuming they don't screw up and somehow lose to Wesleyan) will it Usee? Even if the Vikes win and an especially banged up Carthage team can pull off a huge upset at North Central (making Augie the AQ), Wheaton would still have a share of the CCIW championship and be a lock for the playoffs (I think?) and not being the AQ shouldn't really effect their seed should it? I don't see it happening, I was just curious.

Anyway, regardless of what the other leaders do, I would hope that playing  for the school's 21st CCIW championship and their 17th in the last 26 years would be motivation enough for the Vikings to play well.

Dansand,

After the NCC game, did Augie make any huge changes in personnel or anything?

I wasn't at the North Park game, but I don't think so. The two-deep listed on their website prior to last week's game looked pretty much the same. I know other posters think differently, but I wouldn't throw the baby out with the bathwater because of the North Central butt-kicking. Up until that game their offense, while not overwhelming, had made steady improvement during the CCIW portion of the schedule. I think this year they just don't quite have the horses that they have had in recent years, but they're the horses they have to play with. Despite what some others might say, I think a share of the league crown would be a nice accomplishment for this team.

I had heard that in the wheaton game, 2 augie starting defensive players went down for the year. not sure if that's true or not.

the only difference it makes to wheaton is if Augie loses, wheaton is the AQ and it takes any risk of not being selected as a pool C off the table. I think wheaton is in with a win either way but stranger things have happened to wheaton atheletic teams by ncaa committtees (bball??)

This is another reason/example why I hold Coach Rucks in such high esteem. Attending the funeral today was optional for the players. For all but a handful to want to be there for their freshmen teammate is not just a sign of good parenting (values and priorities), but also Coach Rucks and his staff instilling the importance of supporting each other through good times and bad. Football in the big picture is just a short lived game. Being good people with compasion is a lifetime.
