Thanks, midwestfb. However, my nice comments got karma taken away from me. Not that I care, but I find it amusing that some people are so sensitive on this board.

If you didn't care you wouldn't mention it.

I agree all who post should get postive karma. the only way to counteract this is to declare: a KARMA PARTY.

Give some and get some!! Karma for all who post, come on everyone..................wooowoooo.

I was at this game and saw the "late" hit on kniss and was acutally standing in the endzone right in front of studeman on the td pass. while i agree the officiating was bad i will also say this post is simply sour grapes. Bad officiating happens and I have never seen it biased one way. I thought the late hit on Kniss was a horrible call but I too was on the carthage sideline. i began to walk out but stopped in the endzone as kniss audibled to the play where studeman made the catch. it was a much better throw than it was a catch. it looked to me like the db hooked his arm more than he pushed. either way it was clearly a no call and a great throw.

the officiating was bad both ways. the only unfortunate call was the late hit that would have been 4th and 2 but ended up extending the drive. It didn't look blatantly wrong but it sure was questionable.

Humm.... sour grapes? If you read through to the end of my post I think you'll see I end saying "good or bad officiating is part of the game, you need to suck it up and deal with it" I think that qualifies my explaination to others as to what the questionable calls and officiating was.

What are Wheaton's chances of making a Pool C bid?

probably 99%

Oh, you are always so negative!  I'd say about 101% ;D

One last thought before my head hits the pillow after a long day. I want to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation for all of you out there that are Veterans in service to our country. Thanks seems so little, but all I can offer. I am so greatful to all of you for what you have done to enable the freedoms we enjoy. May God bless each of you!

tailgater,

I believe you said your son is #66, left tackle? He is a really good player. I watched him quite a bit and was very impressed. I actually like both of carthage's tackles.

Interesting game at North Park this afternoon.  Elmhurst jumped out to the 21-0 lead and led 21-7 at the half.  No scoring in the 3rd quarter, and the final was 24-7....  I was impressed with North Park's heart and defense in that 3rd quarter.

Thanks for the kind word, 79jaybird.  I thought the game was going to turn into another blowout as Elmhurst scored two quick touchdowns to start the game.  North Park's defense played very well in the third quarter and held Elmhurst scoreless twice in the red zone.  They didn't look like a defense that had gone 0-7 in the CCIW.  With a little more consistent offense, I think the Vikings would have made the game a lot closer!

I've read a lot of references to questionable calls by the officiating crew. This is a polite way for one to agree the officiating was bad particularly if you are an NCC backer. This crew was outright aweful! Forget about flagging Carthage for delay of game with 7 seconds on the play clock or marching off 10 yards on a defensive holding call (did the 5 yard  and automatic first down rule change?). Virtually every scoring drive NCC had was aided and/or prolonged in some way by a no call for blatant holding by a lineman tackling a defender right in front of the Referee (on multiple occasions) or interference calls which as earlier discribed were questionable. The late hit call late in the 4th quarter put on Kniss on the NCC sideline was a mystery from our side of the field. I'll get a better idea of legitamacy when I see some video from that field side angle. The penalty yardage resulted in a first down instead of a punt. Carthage trailed by only 3 at the time. The final scoring pass for NCC was an outstanding one hand catch by the NCC reciever (Studamen).... the other hand was still recoiling after pushing off the defender so it wasn't available to help secure the ball. I will stop here as it is aggravating to recall the numerous calls which didn't go my team's way. Bottom line... officiating good or bad is part of the game. You need to suck it up and deal with it. Carthage did all they could to overcome the officiating mistakes, but NCC outlasted them and thus was the victor.

wow, someone is mad about their team getting beat. Take a look at the total yards, buddy 374 NCC - Carthage 167. So, the refs gave the game away huh. Was it your mom that ran on the field after the game screaming about the refs? probably! Just another classless act by that lady from Carthage. And you thought that whole deal was bad by wheaton up at carthage. Geez!

Bottom Line...... NCC had terrible field position all first half. They were lucky to only be down 17-14 at half. Truthfully one tipped pass as an interception for a touchdown and a really bad try at a fake punt by the Cards which gave up the ball at the 15 were the blemishes that gave Carthage a good chance.

That being said, carthage did seem like they moved the ball but I guess it was because of the good field position. They only had 67 yards passing and 100 rushing. Great job by the defense even though the scoreboard didnt show that...

Lastly,  Congrats to Coach Thorne and the cardinal football team. Each player deserves credit for winning a share of the conference championship. It's been a long time but I believe the effort this team brings to the field is deserving of the conference trophy.

Congrats again NCC!!!!

Wow, that's your son? I'll echo that, I thought he came out focused during pregame warmups and played a solid game. He is a very good player.

here are Pat's final predictions for the North bracket

Mount Union Bracket
1. Mount Union (A)
2. Capital (C)
3. Concordia (Wis.) (A)
4. Wheaton (C)
5. Mt. St. Joseph (A)
6. North Central (A)
7. Wittenberg (A)
8. Hope (A)

He also mentions that if Franklin gets in they would be the #6 see in the North and he believes the commttee would move NCC to the west bracket as the #8 seed. the arguement for this over a concordia moving is that the committee wouldn't want to move a higher seed out of the bracket (CUW) and there isn't much difference between CUW and NCC geographically.

This would be an interesting development if it happens and would put NCC against Whitewater in round 1.

here is coach rucks commenting on the season:

"This was a great effort in 2006 by our coaching staff.  It's hard when you're forced to put together game plans when you don't know who's available to play that week.  The game plans this year took into account those things and took in account factors like size and speed.  The ability of our staff to keep our kids positive, fighting and directed was also an amazing thing.  A lot of teams would have quit after losing the way we did to Wheaton College (Ill.).  This team never quit, and I have to give them, and all the coaches a lot of credit for that.  Now, we have to gear up for January and our off-season program.  You know we're going to push hard and push our kids hard.  We're not going to sit around and cry about the injuries and what happened in 2006.  We're going ahead.  We have work to do, we have to get it done, and we have to get better.  We have plans, and we're excited about getting ready for 2007."
