Here are Coach Eash's comments from the wheaton game a link to the article.

"They're a good football team," said IWU coach Norm Eash. "We had to play a perfect football game today. We didn't get some things done early and that kind of set the tone for the game."

"We couldn't stop them and we couldn't generate anything in the first half," Eash said. "I think we got handled up front on both the offensive and the defensive lines."

Our kids played hard and tried hard," Eash said. "The desire was there, but they were the better football team today."

Usee, I apologize if that's not what you were meaning, but if you notice, Chuck thought the same thing too when he replied all coaches would say the same thing and should be fired if they didn't.  I know our thoughts are not always communicated accurately when dealing with a computer that doesn't have the ability to communicate the feeling or emphasis behind words we type.  I guess I would just ask you to explain why you think saying the team can win the game if they play a complete game is "classic Norm."  Why is it specific to him?  Wouldn't coach Swider or Rucks or Thorne or anyone say the same thing?

so we can end our little therapy session I will come clean on this too:

the main reason I posted it the way I did is because I was hoping a wheaton coach or player would see it before the game. It never even crossed my mind as an attack on Coach Eash. I can see how you would interpret it that way so I am sorry for that. i do think its an arrogant thing to say but its not specific to Eash.

It is kind of ridiculous to post it as bb material I agree, but you know how players and coaches are before a game. you could be quoted as saying "Lets play hard today" and the other team would read that and think "they think we suck". And it doesn't have any impact on the game in my opinion.

and we move on.....

tailgater,

I believe you said your son is #66, left tackle? He is a really good player. I watched him quite a bit and was very impressed. I actually like both of carthage's tackles.

Thanks usee, I appreciate your observation and comment and I know my son will as well. +Karma for you! My older brother's Pastor knows Andy Studabaker. The Pastor had asked Andy about the game against Carthage knowing my Brother's nephew (#66) played there. Andy's comment was something like "that was the toughest challenge I faced all year" I think that is a pretty significant complement coming from an apparent All-American.

Usee, did you also see the Carthage/Wheaton game the previous week? If so did this Carthage team which played NCC look and play at a totally different level than last week? My observation was that they really stepped it up and left it all out on the field, particullarly the seniors who put their hearts and soul into their final contest.

wow, someone is mad about their team getting beat. Take a look at the total yards, buddy 374 NCC - Carthage 167. So, the refs gave the game away huh. Was it your mom that ran on the field after the game screaming about the refs? probably! Just another classless act by that lady from Carthage. And you thought that whole deal was bad by wheaton up at carthage. Geez!

Not mad, but disappointed. If you read my other posts "BUDDY" you'll see #1- I congratulated NCC first and foremost, #2- I was shocked by the lop-sided stats, #3 - I was explaining the officiating in my view to those who had commented on questionable calls in the game, #4 never said the refs gave the game away (you apparently think they did as you're the only one saying and posting this). Enjoy your championship, good-luck in the playoffs. Remember.... Confucius says " he who laughs last, laughs least"........Sorry Gothunder ;D

Your son has really good feet and technique. he gets up to the LB level and knows how to block a double team w the TE or the guard. that's not always so easy. he also has quite a motor on him. I watched him about half the time carthage had the ball in the second half.

I did not see the game last week. but based on what I saw yesterday I don't understand how the wheaton game was such a large spread.  I do believe Wheaton is playing at a much higher level over the past 3 weeks than they did earlier in the season. the only answer I have is that carthage got a wake up call from wheaton and stepped it up this week v ncc.

One last thought before my head hits the pillow after a long day. I want to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation for all of you out there that are Veterans in service to our country. Thanks seems so little, but all I can offer. I am so greatful to all of you for what you have done to enable the freedoms we enjoy. May God bless each of you!

Wow, that's your son? I'll echo that, I thought he came out focused during pregame warmups and played a solid game. He is a very good player.

Thank you as well midwestfb, a little +karma your way too.

Sorry for the late posts, it's been another heck of a weekend here in St. Louis.  Congrats to NCC fortheir first championship in 46 years.  For that accomplishment, I say Thorne gets the COY award.  I also remember being at IWU trying to recruit Kniss.  I wonder what would have happened in that scenario?  ;D

As for the Titans, another sub par season comes to the end.  I don't think Coach Eash ison the hot seat by any means, but I worry about their overall play, especially the O and D lines.  In order to be competitive inthe CCIW from now on, those boys are going to have to play much better ball.  We shall see.  As us Cub fans seem to always say, next year's our year!!

Can't wait to see the selection show and see where the boys are!!

Wow, what a day!  A little too much celebration for this old body!  What a great effort by the Carthage team!  They were ready to play and were the most physical team that I saw this year!  Fox is a monster and Hernandez played great.  Tailgater, your son is a great tackle!  Easily one of the best O-linemen in the conference!  The fake punt  by NCC was a curious call.  I didn't understand it and apparently I wasn't alone from what I have read.  There was a LOT of trash talking and extracurriculars going on from both sides.  The late hit was close, but when it happens right in front of the NCC bench, you know the coaches are going to beg for it!  I do believe it was the right call.  Kam got hit a couple of times well after releasing the ball and nothing was called earlier in the game.  The officials picked up the flag on the delay of game penalty.  The official saw what he thought was a 1 on the play clock which was actually a 7.  His view was partially blocked by the goalpost.  Stuedeman's catch was incredible!   Hopefully, somone got a picture of it!  Congrats to Wheaton and Augie for their piece of the championship as well.  Hopefully we are all pulling for both teams now that the playoffs will get going.

here are Pat's final predictions for the North bracket

Mount Union Bracket
1. Mount Union (A)
2. Capital (C)
3. Concordia (Wis.) (A)
4. Wheaton (C)
5. Mt. St. Joseph (A)
6. North Central (A)
7. Wittenberg (A)
8. Hope (A)

He also mentions that if Franklin gets in they would be the #6 see in the North and he believes the commttee would move NCC to the west bracket as the #8 seed. the arguement for this over a concordia moving is that the committee wouldn't want to move a higher seed out of the bracket (CUW) and there isn't much difference between CUW and NCC geographically.

This would be an interesting development if it happens and would put NCC against Whitewater in round 1.

Whitewater?   That's an interesting scenario.  I am still hoping for CUW with a chance to host!

Ahhh!!!! The true motive is finally revealed.  I feel like Colombo, 'just one more question....'

Interesting thought or tactic, but even when I played (when we were actually winning the conference on a somewhat regular basis) if the coach from EC, or NCC, or Carthage had said about us 'if my team plays a perfect game and puts everything together, I think we can win the game,' I wouldn't have really given it any second thought.  I would take it for granted that every coach would have said the same thing, and as Ypsi replied, every coach should be saying they believe they can win every game, whether they actually do believe it or not.  No coach in his right mind could come out and say 'they are way better than us and they are probably going to kick our butts today.'  So, the point to this long winded reply is I wouldn't have gotten any motivation out of such a thing and if that's what it takes to get you motivated to play a football game, you need to look yourself in the mirror and check your own self motivation level.  At this level, you need your own drive to be successful, and if you don't have that, you probably don't need to be playing anymore.

Moving on, congrats to Augie, Wheaton, and NCC for their shares of the conf. championship.  They all continue to get it done year in and year out.  Hopefully, we'll be back there with you in the not so distant future.  For the COY debate, it's a tough call, but if I had to choose one, I guess I'd go with Thorne.  If we assume that the COY pretty much automatically goes to the coach of the conference winner, the debate is which is the better accomplishment; the coach that has consistently won or shared the title for several seasons in a row, or the coach that rebuilt the program and won their first title in 40 years?  They both would be an equally deserving choice.  They say it's harder to stay at the top than get to the top, but I guess I'll give coach Thorne the sentimental vote if you will being as he brought that program from a consistent bottom half team to the top.  And no, it has nothing to do with coach Thorne being an IWU alum! ;D
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Jim Matson

I really hope we don't see North Central moved out of the bracket.  Nothing good would come from a Whitewater match-up in the first round - and on the road no less.  I am looking forward to a Wheaton first round home game against Mt. St. Joe (as I predicted ealier!).

Amen.  I can't wait for the potential double CCIW vs. OAC second round.  Now that would be an opportunity for our conference to make a statement.  I'd take one out of two for sure, but who knows, stranger things have happened and if they can limit turnovers, these two offenses have the firepower to play with anybody.  Bring it on Ohio!

Wow again! Thanks CardinalAlum for your words! A +karma your way as well. Coach Rucks had said something similar to Ryan ealier in the week. As parents, we always think our kids have special talent. Nice to see others acknowledge this as well. Ryan has made us proud on and off the field over his career. Kind of sad to have this phase of our life now complete. Time for us live vicariously through someone else's son next season  :D.

Thunderstones,

Be careful what you ask for. Ohio plays some pretty good football and we haven't fared too well over there recently

On COY I don't think there is any valid arguement for voting for Thorne over Swider. Co-COY is fine but you can't tell me an 8-2 coach who got beat by a 9-1 coach deserves it more. That math doesn't work.
