Usee,

I hope you're right about Guzman. He really came on in the conference season. However, I don't think Aaron Call played at all this year and he's not on the current roster.

OK. i made two changes after further review. I didn't realize Call wasn't playing (I went off last years all conf list and he was a jr.) so replaced him w kelly from elmhurst. (this could be a dlineman from ncc also). I also switched esch out w jordan evans from augie.

I think guzman is a lock. sulo will definately be 2nd team. he would be 1st team if he wasnt a freshman. I also think there's a chance 1 of the 2 lbs from elmhurst gets bumped to 2nd team for an ncc LB or possibly hernandez from carthage. these are just a shot at projections.

I still don't undersatnd why CWU gets to play at another field. The game should be played at whoevers field and press box can handle a playoff game. Carthage did not have the press box to handle a playoff game in 2004 so we traveled Alma. That should be the case here and NCC should be hosting. NCAA should stay consistant.

You don't have enough information to know if the NCAA was consistent. Do you know if Carthage filed paperwork to host on another Division III field? Hmm?

Yeah, I checked and they were denied. Now what Mr. Guru?

Do you know 100% for certain all of the facts? Where were they hoping to host the game? Was that in their original filing, or did they amend after the fact when it was clear that they couldn't host on campus? Was the replacement facility suitable?

"Yeah, I checked and they were denied" isn't good enough.

Mr. Ypsi

usee,

I trust that the switch from Esch to Evans was not due to my post (yeah, right ;)); otherwise I might have to harm myself! ;D

I guess I'll wait for the official results before I do anything drastic! :P

Congratulations to Augie, NCC, and Wheaton.  And to the latter two, I'm counting on still having TWO teams to root for in the second round!

That's why I stated the History Major jokingly. Hehe
Many people forget that 1960, under the direction of the late Jesse Vail,  the Cardinals won the CCIW which ended Wheaton's Dynasty of the 50's.  (1950-1959 Harve Chrouser HC)

That's true, but it's highly misleading. The Wheaton dynasty didn't end because North Central wrested the title away from Chrouser & Co. The Wheaton dynasty ended because the Crusaders were not given the opportunity to keep it going. Wheaton was asked to leave the league after the 1958-59 school year because the Crusaders were smothering everybody else in the two big sports, football and men's basketball. Wheaton didn't lose a CCIW game in either sport in its last two years as a member of the league, and only one game in the two sports in the four years before the other members showed the Crusaders the door -- a remarkable achievement. From what I've been told, the vast majority of those football and basketball games were routs.

Wheaton had won nine of the 14 CCI(W)'s football titles to that point and had accumulated a 68-7-1 record in league play. Who knows whether or not the Crusaders would've kept it going had they not been cast into the outer darkness?

From North Central it is about 2-2:30  hours away.  I know from Mt. Prospect  I can get to WI Lutheran in about 1:30-2 hours going 65-70mph the way up.  For those driving that haven't been up to WI, watch your speed as you are approaching Milwaukee by General Mitchell Airport.  The speed goes from 70  to 55 to 45  and those WI Troopers LOVE  :-*  Illinois License Plates! ;)

I've driven up to Milwaukee many times (my wife is from the Milwaukee area). Wisconsin Lutheran is on the west side, shoudl be able to get there in 1:50 from Naperville easy.

usee,

Wow!  You've got 4 from IWU, yet only 3 from NCC and 2 from Augie.  How did we go 2-5, while they went 6-1? ;)

(I realize it is a team game - presumably their other 19-20 players were a lot better than our other 18, or at least played better as a TEAM.) :(

And 7 from Wheaton.  I still think that with three co-champs, Wheaton, NCC, and Augie will dominate the selections.

Ok, give NCC just 3 but then we'll take the OPOY, DPOY, and COY.

Hiker Jim, I think in your breakdown of stats, you had the rushing offenses for Wheaton and MSJ backwards. Regardless, due to the way the season has unfolded for MSJ, their only hope is to force turnovers...which is something Wheaton has done less of than they did in 2004. I think MSJ's defense is better than 2004, but the offense isn't close (and we weren't THAT good then).

With TO's this game may come down to special teams, without...long ride home from Chi-Town for the Lions.

I believe the All Conf meetings are tuesday. I analyzed the stats and strengths of each team as well as last years selections. The result is what I think the COACHES will choose on tuesday (not necessarily what I think should happen)

OPOY Kniss
DPOY Studebaker
COY Swider/Thorne

OFFENSE:

QB Kniss NCC

FB Guzman  Augie
RB Wallich  Millikin
RB Black  Wheaton

TE Bergman Carthage

WR Ceisel IWU
WR Studeman NCC
WR Fossum Wheaton

OL Glassman Carth
OL Kaspar NCC
OL Rowson Wheaton
OL Murray IWU
OL Manda Wheaton

DEFENSE:
DB Ittersagen Wheaton
DB  Bellazini  NCC
DB  Evans Augie
DB Battaglia Elm

LB Toal Wheaton
LB Brady Elm
LB Scardullo Elm
LB Youngbauer Augie

DL Studebaker Wheaton
DL Kelly Elmhurst
DL Stephens IWU
DL Williams Millikin

Return Specialist: Watts NPU
P McLean
K Denny Carthage

I have reasons for all of these picks. the ones I am least confident about are: Bergman, TE (there may be a stronger candidate) and Manda OL (I am pretty sure wheaton will have 2 but Manda may not be the 2nd strongest after Rowson)

let the debate begin.

I really believe that Spicer is a First team OL from NC.  I just don't see how IWU is rewarded with that many positions with that W/L record.
I believe that the NCC freshmen kicker deserves First team over Denny.  Here are the overall kicking stats to back it up.

The other guy that really impressed the heck out of me was Fox from Carthage.   He probably merits a look on defesnse as well.

one could make a strong case for Fox on the 1st team. It wouldn't surprise me. The kicker pick was a tossup for me. I do know that you have to significantly out perform the incumbent if you want to dethrone them. that is why guzman is in over sulo and denny over baganno. all are deserving in my book.

Fox is a great athlete and he can bring a load. He should be looked at very hard when deciding all-conference.

One more point I want to make about last Saturday:

I want to make sure I congratulate the Cardinal for their achievment as co champion after a 40+ year dry spell. what coach Thorne has done is imporessive with back to back playoff appearances. Having said that I think it was a complete travesty to honor NCC with a CCIW trophy in Naperville on Saturday and not to have a conference rep in Wheaton and probably Decatur too. There is no justification for that. And if someone says its because NCC won the AQ I might throw up. There is no arguement for NCC being better or more deserving of the CCIW title than Wheaton. Not having a trophy presentation in both places is a joke.
