Someone deducted from me on my comment, and there were only 2 people on at that point that can take/give Karma at that time! So someone doesn't like our stance.   :P

How hard is it to start up a rival website, especially if there is a dissatisfied contigent of people?
Yes, this is a great resource, but all I'm saying is don't abuse your base of readers and don't take them for granted. Nothing is ever permanent. Just because this is the No. 1 website right now doesn't mean it'll stay that way forever.

Hey FishHack once you get a site that you run, then you can talk some smack, until then you need to just take a chill pill. I didnt see you on ESPN the other day, but Pat was.

I along with all the other posters probably agree that Pat is fair and honest 100% of the time. Can that be the next poll question???

It was ESPNews ... :)

How hard is it to start up a site? Heh ... you have no idea. Good thing is, nobody's going to outwork us at D3football.com and D3hoops.com. Nobody is going to be able to out-expertise us, I feel confident, and we'll have an eight-year head start on the next football site.

I'm not saying I would intentionally abuse people -- I thank those that have had my back -- but I am not sure there's competition there to worry about either.

Hack, give me a break. I'm not sure how long you've been lurking but I'm sure you haven't read more than 2% of my 14,000-plus posts. I don't think that's enough to draw a fair conclusion.

Quote from: portgrad2004 on November 14, 2006, 02:09:56 AMFirst of all, I don't think there is a large amount of dissatisfied people out there to try to compete with Pat.

I have been floating around for 4 years on this site, and never have I seen an "abuse" on any reader.  Sure, if he disagrees with a point of view, he'll let you know.  If you have blatant misstatement of fact, he'll let you know.  Isn't that what a moderator is supposed to do?

He runs this site, the message board (including the many different regions, topics under the board) for two different sports.  Not always can he give you a long drawn out response, it just doesn't make any sense timewise.

The people on this site do a lot of work for basically nothing, they deserve a little respect, not people complaining  that "WAAAH STOP HURTING ME"

If you don't like it, you can leave, no one is stopping you but you aren't going to find a better site out there. PERIOD.

Pat,
Perhaps not. ...
Also, I'm not questioning how hard it is to run a website and do what you do. That wasn't my point at all. My point was that you shouldn't take readers for granted.

Why stoop down to match someone's tone? I think you should be the bigger person, don't you agree? Like I wrote, that's not good for business to answer displeasing posts with a snotty, condescending response.
I understand this is your little fiefdom and all, but you piss enough people off and they'll go elsewhere eventually. That's simple customer service, man.
I work in the media so I understand that sometimes people out there don't have the answers or sometimes go off on conspiracy theories about coverage or get a little riled up because their passions as fans get the best of them. They don't always have the same perspective, but if I respond to a complaint or a question to my readers like that, they go read another newspaper.

Where else are they gonna go? How many websites for D3 football are there?

Careful...the government might decide to go after d3football.com when they're done with Microsoft's anti-trust persecution. ;)

I'd answer "yes" to that question, but I'll leave that one to someone who's been on these boards virtually since their inception. :) ;) :D :) ;) :D

I have to agree with FishHack here. Ever since I have been on this board Pat has answered peoples questions with a condescending tone. I know Pat is a busy guy and does a lot of work to keep this website up and running and I respect him for that. However, not everyone has the knowledge that he does. We ask questions that might be very simple for Pat but not to us. I am not trashing this board of site because I love it I think it's great. I just would ask when anyone that gives a response back, to be considerate of someones knowledge of that subject.

Picking your football Guru is (on a lesser level) like picking your surgeon.  Do you want him to  be sweet or smart?

I will take smart.

One vote for Pat.

QuoteKidding aside, if Wheaton can't beat them, I certainly hope the Cards will get their shot, but I give Wheaton at least as good of a chance, if not better, to beat Mt. Union as I would North Central to beat Capital.

Thunderstones, do you really believe this?  I'd put North Central's chances of defeating Capital at no less than 50% - I see nothing from Capital that makes me think they'll roll over the Cards.  Wheaton on the other hand...come on, have you watched the previous Wheaton/Mount Union games?  With Mount's defense this year, I'd put our chances of beating the Raiders at no more than 20% - and that's assuming we defeat Mount St. Joe.

Look Stones, I'm a Wheaton fan and have been for years, but please give me some help in understanding your statement, because I don't see it.

Given how much we pay for this site (which is 0 unless you buy the excellent Pre-season Guide), I would think it will be very hard for someone to start up a new site. They would need deep pockets and a willingness to lose money until they could prove their value.

Different era, different circumstances.

This conference does not revolve around football, nor did it do so in the 1980s. It's just one sport among many that the CCIW was sponsoring at that time. What sense would it make to ask a school to leave the conference just because it was dominating one particular sport? It would've made more sense to ask North Central to leave than to ask Augustana to leave, because even as far back as the '80s North Central's dominance in cross-country was more thorough than was Augie's dominance in football. NCC has won every CCIW men's cross-country title since 1974, and Al Carius and his Cardinals harriers had already won six D3 cross-country national championships before Augie won its first in football in 1983.

I was wondering if someone was going to bring up North Central's dominance in cross country. NCC has been pretty dominant in Track as well.

Isn't there a track/cross country board to post that?
