Oh come on, don't poke him with a stick.

I was going to say not to poke your fellow Wheaton alumnus with a stick but I'm reminded he did not attend Wheaton.

Laughing with him not at him. if we all can't laugh once in a while, where are we? Go Thunder has got a sense of humor too.

New Tradition - welcome to the board. It's great to have another Cardinal supporter. Great comments on this weekend's playoff game! I look forward to more posts!

Son of Tailgater

The preseason ranking by the coaches was Augie-NCC-Wheaton. So, clearly, Wheaton overperformed based on the expectations of the schools. I have no problem with naming Swider as COY. But Thorne has probably been a contender each of his  five years at NCC.

I would even have to say Carthage overperformed.....picked to finish 7th in the conference. We were also picked to finish 7th in 2004....and ended up winning the conference.

usee,
good one, haha......do not anger the karma Gods

I am trying to think of a nickname for the 3 Wheaton receivers Chris Fossum, Joe Chupp and Noah Dreyer.  Like Air Thunder - Any ideas?

How about the Karma Collectors?

HAHA that is so funny. I actually laughed out loud  :D

I agree and even being an opposing player, I thought that was a good thing for both NCC football and thier fans. However, it may give other teams more motivation to score in that endzone as even I celebrated more than normal and caught myself nearly in the Alum tent. Either way it makes for a good atmostphere. Carthage NEEDS to bring the hill back, I think its a shame that the student fan base has almost dissapeared out there.

Very true!  I was disappointed that the only ones on the hill were about 8 of us old guys.  I am always reminded that fans are fickle and in 2004 there were tons of people on the hill.

To you younger Redmen and interesting side note about students at large. For the most part they have no idea about what kind of time and sacrifice players put in.  I was the Augie game last year, a 7-0 Augie win which was one of the greatest defensive football games I've ever seen, and students were Bitching about the Fireworks! Saying that they were the same as last year!   If they only knew what that place was like about 6 years ago, they would be as excited as the rest of us about every little knew thing they do there.  The fact there is now Turf!  Before they added the turf, I had played in parking lots that were better than that field in October and November.

That is what made seeing Carthage play in the playoffs even more rewarding.  I sometimes think that Wheaton and Augie (Millikin and IWU a couple of years ago) fans are spoiled, they are used to it.  I know that you NCC fan know what I am talking about!

All that aside, Congratulations to all you CCIW seniors you should be proud of your accomplishments.  Especially to you REDMEN it was a lot of fun watching you play.  Now you get to join us "Old Redmen" on the hill and maybe I can share the story of Norm's Hat with you!
I hope the CCIW teams in the playoffs show other teams what great programs they truly are!
HEY NORM, I LOST YOUR HAT! GO REDMEN!!!

And we can all thank Coach Rucks for so many of those changes at Carthage!

QuoteKidding aside, if Wheaton can't beat them, I certainly hope the Cards will get their shot, but I give Wheaton at least as good of a chance, if not better, to beat Mt. Union as I would North Central to beat Capital.

Thunderstones, do you really believe this?  I'd put North Central's chances of defeating Capital at no less than 50% - I see nothing from Capital that makes me think they'll roll over the Cards.  Wheaton on the other hand...come on, have you watched the previous Wheaton/Mount Union games?  With Mount's defense this year, I'd put our chances of beating the Raiders at no more than 20% - and that's assuming we defeat Mount St. Joe.

Look Stones, I'm a Wheaton fan and have been for years, but please give me some help in understanding your statement, because I don't see it.

I have some thoughts on this but will wait until next week to get into it.

I do as well and I'll wait till next week.  1) To make sure it is even relevant (assuming the CCIW teams win this weekend and 2) this is only the 2nd time I've been able to get on-line all week as my in-laws computer is in their bedroom.  ARRRGGGGHHH!! :o

and if Sulo gets a solid QB in, he could be the early frontrunner for the OPOY.

I think Zach Ullrich (QB Wheaton) will have something to say about that.  8)

Agreed.  With all the players Wheaton has returning, including linemen and receivers (along with Andrew Hershey who ended up starting at least 3 games), plus the fact Ullrich got so many snaps... he needs to be considered a contender for OPOY.

Only 5 posts back from the OAC board!!! This is exciting or I just have a lot of time on my hands  ;D

Alas, barring the unexpected, they will be back in front by 15-20 pages and 150-200 posts by the end of the Stagg Bowl!  But for now we are only 4 posts back. ;)

we will just have to put some daylight between them and us until that time. Lets get the movie quotes rolling!! :D

I don't know - you s'pose 400+ quotes and 30+ pages is enough daylight?!

Congratulations to us motormouths!! ;D

[Now, of course, if Wheaton and/or NCC can keep things going for a few more weeks, we won't even need movie quotes!!]

Mr. Ypsi

Oh, Geez, I spent my 5000th post on that moronic drivel! :-[

You are right Joe Bear.
The students at Carthage that aren't athletes weren't very supportive of football when I was there.
My senior year I was at a comedian show in the student center and the comedian asked the crowd how the football team was and most of the crowd yelled back "they suck".  I freaked out.  I stood up and said some things to the croud about how the football team feels about them.  That was 1997 our first winning season in conference and overall since 1981.  I was pretty proud of what we did that year.
We will always be REDMEN
