I know this is off topic at this point in the season, but it was often mentioned how many injuries affected Carthage this year and their ability to put their best athletes on the field week after week. I was browsing through the Carthage web sight and came across the following 2006 injury report. You need not labor yourselves to read it in detail, but the immensity of the list I think tells the story of what a difficult and good  job the Carthage Coaching staff had each week working on personnel packages for each game.

2006 Injury Report:  Ten Carthage players missed the entire 2006 season with injuries, and total of 30 players, including nine starters, were unavailable for the season-finale at North Central College...2004 and 2005 first-team All-CCIW safety/punter Donovan Moore (Sr., Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond-Burton) suffered a severe hamstring injury during pre-season drills and missed the entire season.  Moore plans to return in 2007 as a fifth-year senior...starting cornerback Franko Shenault (Jr., Hanover Park, Ill./Roselle-Lake Park) had foot surgery in August and missed the entire 2006 season...outside linebacker Steve Rucks (Sr., Elgin, Ill./Larkin) broke a hand during pre-season drills, attempted to play with that injury and then broke a leg in an Aug. 26 scrimmage against Concordia University (Wis.).  Rucks missed the entire season...wide receiver Chris Dunn (So., Tampa, Fla./Jefferson) missed the entire season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament...center Brian Mansfield (Sr., Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove) missed the entire season with a shoulder injury...linebacker Jeff Meyer (Fr., Naperville, Ill./Central) missed the entire season  with an ankle injury...defensive lineman Brad Partynski (Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill./South) missed the entire season with a torn posterior knee ligament...defensive lineman Travis Rische (Fr., Trevor, Wis./Wilmot-Union) missed the entire season with foot surgery...defensive back Mike Seese (Fr., Chenoa, Ill./Fairbury-Prairie Central) missed the entire season with patellar tendinitis...defensive back Joey Zagorski (Fr., Elmwood Park, Ill.) missed the entire season missed the entire season with a broken collarbone...starting defensive end Mike Powers (Jr., Fox Lake, Ill./Grant Community), hampered by an Achilles tendon injury, played briefly in the Sept. 2 season-opener at Carroll College (Wis.) before missing the rest of the season...defensive end Scott Bauer (Fr., Lemont, Ill.) missed the last seven games with a lower-back injury...starting fullback Shaun Jozwiak (Jr., Johnsburg, Ill./McHenry-Johnsburg) missed the last seven games with a torn anterior cruciate ligament...starting wide receiver Eric Haldeman (Jr., Naperville, Ill./Central) missed the last six games with a quadriceps contusion and a blood clot...defensive back Matt Walenga (Fr., Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) missed the last six games with a ankle sprain...linebacker Kent Davies (Fr., Chicago, Ill./Luther North) missed five games with a strained neck...backup place kicker Donald Keiser (Fr., Crown Point, Ind.) missed the last five games with a broken wrist...linebacker Sean Lynch (Fr., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way East) missed the last five games with a hand injury...tight end Will Hodgkinson (Fr., Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest) missed the last four games with mononucleosis...starting safety Nate Nihells (So., Hampshire, Ill.) missed the last four games with a bulging disc in the lower back... tight end Michael Sharp (Sr., Downers Grove, Ill./South) missed the last four games with a neck injury...tight end Bill Titus (Fr., Algonquin, Ill./Woodstock-Marian Central Catholic) missed the last four games with a shoulder injury...linebacker Steve Adams (Fr., Downers Grove, Ill./North) missed the last three games with a jaw injury...linebacker Adam Longbons (Sr., Mokena, Ill./Frankfort—Lincoln-Way East) missed the last three games with a shoulder injury...wide receiver Chas Walton (Fr., Glendale, Wis./Milwaukee-Nicolet) missed the last three games with facial contusions...offensive lineman Spencer Williams (So., Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) missed the last three games with a knee injury...starting defensive lineman Joe Busse (Fr., Hoffman Estates, Ill./Palatine-Fremd) broke his arm in the Oct. 28 Millikin game and missed the last two games...starting wide receiver/punter Jeff Koeneman missed the last two games with a quadriceps contusion...starting quarterback Brennan O'Boyle (So., Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) missed the last two games with a knee injury...cornerback Tom DeBaker (So., Racine, Wis./Case) and fullback Cory Van Hoozer (Fr., Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) both missed the final game of the season with neck injuries.

Best of luck to Wheaton and NCC as they take on the OAC tommorrow. My fingers are crossed that either one or both will have success! If not successful,  I certainly hope both games are very good games that are not decided by mistakes.

A belated Happy Thanksgiving to all you CCIW posters! I hope your belts are not suffering today from your indiscretions.

Not to belittle this at all, but it happens every now an then.  We had the same issue my junior year at Wheaton.  Just some freakish, outta nowhere injuries that really took it's toll.  We had 3... count'em, 3 dislocated knee caps in 2 weeks (along with the ligament damage).  In my 10 years as I player I can't recall a single occurrence of that injury prior to the 1987 season.  I believe we lost at least 10 starters to season ending knee injuries.  It was just weird.

Needless to say after high expectations, we suffered through a horrible season - 3-6 if I recall correctly.  What it really pointed too was a lack of leadership after we lost some key seniors and a lack of depth.  The program was 5 or so years into rebuilding, but we hadn't gotten to the point of having good talent beyond our starters.  That obviously has changed.

Injuries happen to every team (EC Kudyba 2nd play of the game untouched), but Carthage did suffer the "black plague" if you will of injuries.  I talked to Coach Rucks throughout the year and the makeshift lineups, changes, injuries, etc. made it a very difficult year for the Redmen.  Still, Carthage nearly knocked off Elmhurst and North Central which is a credit to Coach Rucks and the players.

Congratulations to Wheaton Women's Soccer who are now into the Championship Match down in Orlando, FL as the Thunder won 2-0 over VA Wesleyan this morning.  Hopefully the Men follow suit and we can see 2 more Walnut & Bronze plaques in a CCIW Building!

Drifting over here to tell all CCIW fans the good news!

Wheaton pulls off the upset and takes down Ohio Wesleyan 1-0 on an early goal by Joel DeLass.  They play for the National Championship game tomorrow.

This is the best NCAA post season story I've seen in 26 years of Division III soccer!  Wow!

Ohio Wesleyan had three great chances late in this half and couldn't convert.

Mount Union anyone?

Amazing! Both the men's and women's soccer teams playing for the national championship tomorrow and Wheaton football going up against Mount Union.  Could be the single biggest sporting day ever for Wheaton (even though much of it has to do with soccer  :P).

Does anyone know the best website to listen to the Mt. Union/Wheaton game
tomorrow? I would appreciate any info about that.
I am in California so if game is at 11am, it will be in Cali at 0800.
Any input appreciated.

As far as 3 teams shooting for highly valued hardware at once, won't disagree with you on that one, Mugsy.  :) ;) :D

WahooThunder

It's Gameday baby!  A beautiful morning in Canton, Ohio, and Wheaton is ready to go!  Everyone else ready for the biggest day in "Thunder" sports history?!!

With regard to those of you listening on the internet.  The Wheaton/Mount Union football game will be broadcast in its entirety at www.wetn.org under the "listen live" tab.

Beginning at 1 p.m. ET, The Women's Soccer National Championship game will be broadcast live, and that can be listened to under the "watch live" tab, even though it is just an audio stream, no video.

Go Thunder!  And best wishes to North Central today as well.  Beat Capital, and we'll see you at McCully next Saturday!

Happy playoff day everyone!  Heres to safety for all those traveling and the players.  Good luck to Wheaton and North Central.  Very exciting to have an "OAC v CCIW Challenge" again.  Here's hoping for the CCIW taking it to the next level.

I think North Central will be victorious today, just a feeling.  Disclaimer:  I have often been wrong before.   ;D

Here are my feelings about the Wheaton game.
1.  They cannot allow Mount return teams to have a good showing.  If they do, game over.

2.  They cannot ever forget about Garcon he is too much of a game changer.

3.  Linebackers must stay home.  Kmic can hit them, the linemen are very good, and Mount likes to screen.

4.  It will be interesting to see how quickly the Thunder adjusts to the speedy Mount defense.

5.  Mount cannot underestimate Chaz Black, even if he has a quiet first half.  He is an explosive player even if you wouldn't be able to tell by looking at him.

6.  Wheaton cannot turn the ball over.  If they do, especially in their own territory, game over.

7.  If this game is close, it will be great to watch 2 great coaches make adjustments.

8.  Mount must make sure to keep track of all of Wheaton's offensive weapons.  The same could be said for Wheaton

9.  Andy Studebaker must be accounted for by Mount.

Hopefully the Headlines at 10:00 this evening will read

A) Wheaton Football upsets Mt. Union jumps into the Elite 8

B) North Central claims revenge, knocks off Capital and also jumps into the Elite 8.

C) Wheaton's Men's Soccer Team hoists the Walnut & Bronze in Orlando, FL

D) Wheaton's Women's Team joins the Men's Team as Nat'l Champs.

Could be a great day in our conference.  Best of luck to all.

Uh oh... Early in first quarter, Pete Ittersagen is down.  For Wheaton sake it better not be serious.

Next play Kmic on 52 yard TD!  Down 7-0 already... not the way to start.
