bottom line is they play defense at another level in the OAC. NCC is finding that out as well today.

usee - I don't know if it was the defense that really hurt North Central, they had 270 total yds and only 1 TO at halftime. What hurt was:

1) Pentenello VS THE NCC DEFENSE

2) Pentenello VS THE NCC DEFENSE

3) Not getting TD's on the first half possessions that ended up being FGs.

4) Pentenello VS THE NCC DEFENSE

Sad to see the Kam Kniss era come to an end at North Central. I don't know how the legs are on this one....but I have heard that this may not be the last time we see a Kniss starting at QB for North Central......

somebody was on the field for NCC when Pentello was doing all that.

usee - I understand that, but wouldn't that mean they play another level of offense in the OAC? I thought you were saying that the D in the OAC was played at another level, meaning that Capital's D was too much for North Central to overcome. Apparently this is not what you were insinuating.  ???

Well, Pentello threw for 5 td's and Kniss for 1. I think these two qbs are both pretty good. The difference, in my opinion, is the defense played vs these two qbs. additonally, the MUC defense is faster and better than anything I have seen in the CCIW since Augie in the 80's. (last years cap defense was as good as any I have seen as well). My point is that the CCIW doesn't play defense like the OAC. Kam is going to get his yards because he is as good a qb as there is. Wheaton got more yards today than MUC has given up all year but still only had 3 points.

Congrats to NCC on a very good year...I was very impressed how hard they played throughout the entire game (except for the last minute - I am not sure about the timeouts they were using).  I feel the biggest difference maker amongst the two conferences is the speed!!  Believe me, Rocky is in a league of his own - especially when he is on.  This years difference in comparison to last year, is they have 2 WR's & 1 TE that can stretch the field on any given play.  Last year, they had 1 TE that could stretch the field & that was it.  NCC did a pretty good job of establishing drives, but once inside Cap territory, they could not execute td's.

Now, as far as the timeouts...can someone help me out on that??  I didn't see any substitutions taking place, but I could have missed that.  Hope everyone has a safe trip back to Naperville...hopefully we will see you next year!!

Wheaton fans - Congrats on a fine season! I was a bit surprised that you moved the ball so well but not as surprised as the 5 INT's especially the 2 in the first half that cost you a chance to be tied at halftime. I was impressed with Joe Chupp...made some big 3rd down plays and did a super job all game long.

To the Wheaton faithful--congrats on a hard fought game.  I was surprised at your constant success on third and long.  We got lucky and got the picks.  Your guys played tough and showed a lot of class on the field and after the game.  Hope we get a chance to meet again next year.

Congrats on the great season Wheaton and NCC.

Nice comments about the MUC Student Radio, I am sure they appreciate it.  They usually do an excellent job.  I had to listen to the ONU student radio earlier this year because the MUC link was down and they were horrible.

MUC radio was excellent.  They presented a mostly unbiased account of the game, gave regular score and yardage updates, along with other pertinent information from sideline reports, etc...  Very well done indeed.

I listened to the entire game instead of Wheaton's broadcast.  While I respect the effort put forth by Wheaton's broadcast and I know they do the best they can as students, I just couldn't handle the color commentary (or lack thereof). It was brutal - to be honest.  I've listened to them all year for the games I couldn't attend and for that I'm thankful, but the MUC crew just was far better.

I had the same thoughts about the Wheaton broadcast Mugsy, but didn't know if commenting would do any good or be of any use for improving their presentation. The play-by-play guy did a good job and provided a lot of excitment and emotion with his call. The color guy sounded like a mortician. Mono-toned and dull. First time I've listened to this broadcast pair. Is this a typical performance by the color guy?

Congrats to Wheaton and NCC for their successful season. The CCIW will start fresh again next season sorting out who from our conference will step up and take the next shot at the OAC powers. Should be another exciting football season next year as I expect more of the same week-in and week-out battles between many capable CCIW teams. Congrats to MUC and Capital for their solid wins today. Should be a good game next week for the North Regional Championship.

It was a good run for Wheaton and NCC. They each had a great year.
These are as good as money, these are IOU's

Yes.  And you are probably correct in saying that my critique probably doesn't serve to help any.  I just couldn't listen to their broadcast today.

Actually, I was saying I didn't know if my critical comment served any purpose and I wasn't going to post that thought until I saw you had the same observation. Great minds think alike........ya right ;)

Congrats to all the CCIW teams and all the participants on this board. Karma to all of you (even Go Thunder ;D). When the book opens in August, you never know how the story will unfold. We'd like it to go on until the middle of December, it was highly entertaining.

Congrats to Wheaton and NCC on fine seasons.  Having seen Wheaton play when the beat us (Hope), I thought they would give Mount a tougher showing than we did last week.  Although I expected a closer score and despite the score, from what has been posted, it appears they did, having more chances at scoring than Hope did.  I was also slightly surprised to see that Mount's running game appeared to be the "big guns" this week because IMO, it was their passing game that did us in last week.  Just goes to show what a balanced team Mount is.  Also, glad to see the attendance was up for that game as compared to last week.  Speaks well for the Wheaton following (and also perhaps no OSU/U of M game competition helped a little in that regard? ;D)

No doubt Wheaton will be strong again next year and look forward to seeing you guys again.

From listening to the Wheaton/MUC game and watching the Bears this evening, turnovers in the redzone are killers.  Chupp's 2 ints. in the red zone could have been 14 points and against a goliath like MUC you need to convert those to 7.  Similarly, Grossman just didn't get it done today in New England.

As a 6- year CCIW broadcast Veteran, I can tell you that nobody is perfect and it is hard to find quality people to broadcast games.  I laugh at myself when I listen to tapes of my first 2 years doing Elmhurst games.  Oh gosh, some of those early years were hard on the hearing!  Furthermore, some of these schools have different crews annually/weekly so he/she can't get into a comfortable groove.  Without a tenured person (i.e. Art Kimble at IWU, Rick at Carthage, yours truly at Elmhurst, etc.) he/she won't learn how the off./def. works, what the team will call on certain situations (i.e. 3rd and 2 ) and doesn't get a chance to get familiar with the coaching staff/players.

Well, I was hoping by this time we would not be looking at 2007 yet, but the CCIW football slate is over.  Time to look ahead at 2007.  First and foremost, I think 7 teams have a shot at the title this year, as in last year.  I think all 8 will be involved in the puzzle somehow.  No more big 4/little 4 etc.  because parity is widespread.
Augie- CCIW champs 20th time, and I think they will be extra hungry seeing as how one might think the Vikings were "gipped" this year.  NC/Wheaton in Augie out
Carthage- Has a great team returning, just needs to stay healthy and gel
Elmhurst- Lots of big gaps to fill and will be questioned hard by everybody to prove that their 6-4 almost 7-3 season was not just a 1 hit wonder
IWU- Has a great offense returning and Panno is sharp
NC- Big gap to fill at QB but what a great pickup in Sulo.  Still should be decent to great next year
NPU- Pethtel has a lot, a lot of work to do with these guys, but there is only 1 direction they can go.  The Park should be much better next year.
Millikin- (I know should have been before NC), this was the most physical group I saw in the CCIW last year, and their overall record is misleading.  Replacing Wallick will be tough.
Wheaton- My early favorite for 2007.  Ullrich will pick up where Chupp has left off, Studebaker and the defense are monsters, should be a strong 2007 Thunder squad.

Can we start the 2007 next week?  :P
