Congrats to Son of Tailgater for finishing 11th  out of something like 1340 posters who participated in the playoff D3 pick-ems pool!!

and congratulations to Tailgater, father of Son of Tailgater, for vicariously finishing in 11th place!! You must be very proud.

You assessment comments interesting and good.  Only aspect I would mention is that certainly you saw Mount more than me this year, and as such, you would know more than me about them not having "shutdown corner'backs'".  Yet, from the game I personally witnessed as well as at the Stagg from what I saw (at least on TV), I would say all their DB's are great and played an excellent "shutdown" on WW passing game.  WW did not have the latter (nor did we in the first playoff game) because their receivers could never get open.  I think that is pretty good and this coming from an "old db" ;) ;D

You're correct in that the Mount secondary is very good and deep.  I didn't mean to imply that they weren't good group, just that they don't have a true stud CB like a Chris Kern or Ross Watson.  But as a whole, it's a very talented group.

The scary part for opposing QB's is that one of the best young guys (Cameron Rose) from 2005 was lost for all of 2006 with a pre-season knee injury which opened the door for Jonah Wilson to start.  And all Jonah did in his 1st season was earn 2nd team All-OAC.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Seeing as Don Hansen is based in Illinois I might expect a different pick from him.

Good call

Pat,

Although this might imply that since you live in Connecticut/Virginia, we should expect you to pick a certain way. We know better, however, given mr football gazzettes laissez faire attitude toward research I think there is a chance he will pick Joe Albin as his 1st team qb. :( :P :-[ :-\

You can check my record and their record and decide for yourself if that's true. :)

Pat or somebody,

I noticed on my profile section my picture of a "Bluejay" is vacant.  Did I accidentally hit a wrong key and delete the image or something?  Please advise, thanks.

today is the saddest day of the year for the d3football regulars. Pat changed the order of the board so the basketball board is 1st and football goes to the bottom until next august.

bummer. :'( :'(

Yeah, for the last week or 2 I've been doing extra mouse scrolling exercises in anticipation of having to scroll down further to get here.

Mr. Ypsi

usee and Mugsy, I feel your pain!  (Well, not really, since I'm more a bball poster than a fball poster, but it seemed like the polite thing to say! ;D)

To ease your transition, some of my favorite football one-liners (all genuine):

Bo Jackson: Football is easy if you're crazy as hell.

George Will: Football combines the two worst features of American life: violence and committee meetings.

Heywood Hale Broun: Football is, after all, a wonderful way to get rid of your aggressions without going to jail for it.

Duffy Daugherty: Football is not a contact sport.  It's a collision sport.  Dancing is a contact sport.  [Even when he said that, he was showing his age re: dancing!]

Eugene McCarthy: Being a polician is like being a football coach: You have to be smart enough to understand the game, but dumb enough to think it's important.

And finally, my absolute favorite, since it really summed up the guy...

Dick Butkus: When I played pro football, I never set out to hurt anybody deliberately unless it was, you know, important, like a league game or something.

Jaybird,
I'm guessing that maybe whatever website you got the logo from is no longer up. Just a guess.

Mr. Ypsi quoting George Will?  :o

By the way Mr. Ypsi, you missed one of my personal favorites:
When asked about the execution of his offense, Buccaneer coach John McKay said, "I'm in favor of it!"

Dansand,

Yes, that is probably my all-time favorite one-liner, but I could not for the life of me remember who said it!

And you're quite insightful to question my quoting George Will - in anything political, highly unlikely; but that WAS a great line about football!

My logo doesn't come up anymore either.  Guess we'll have to change them - get a photo from one of our own sources.  BTW, hope you are doing well and have a great upcoming holiday.
