Hey guys, I haven't been on since the national championship so if this was already posted please forgive.

I was talking to another graduate from NCC and a rumor has it that all of NCC defensive coaching staff has quit. Only defensive cond. Coach Wienke is left and it is said that he was demoted and coach thorne will hire another D-cond. before spring football practice as well as new segment/asst. coaches. Any news on this. Thanks

Shark,

You are partially correct on your information.  There will be a new D-Coordinator.  I can't share his name at this point but it is a great hire for the Cardinals I assure you.   Weinke will be staying on in a different capacity.

I'm going to have to disagree with you , if you are thinking of the same guy that is rumored, I find it hard to believe that a former quarterback and quarterback coach, with no experience coaching defense will be better then what NCC already had. Wienkie had the #1 defense 2 of the last 3 years. From what I hear Wienkie had no desire to step down. I  am very unsure about this move as well as why all the defensive coaches left.

I had heard that Weinke's "demotion" was actually voluntary because he was made head of the PE dept. at NCC and with the new responsibilities that accompany that, he would be unable to handle the workload of both that and being the defensive coordinator.  Also, I don't believe that the defensive staff "quit" out right, the majority of them were offered better positions at other institutions.

Quote from: diehardfan on January 24, 2007, 01:00:27 PMIt's only a debate at all because you refuse to admit the facts. ::) There were no I, II, III divisions when Wheaton established their football program.... hopefully, as a HOFer, you are aware of these sorts of things. This means that anyone who aspired to be anyone had to be paying attention to Wheaton Football, since we were the best of the best of the best back in the early 1900s.

Incidentally, while we're at it.... Wheaton was founded in 1860, and Hope College in 1866. Thus, they clearly copied us too.  :P

And, most importantly, as usee pointed out, God made Orange and Blue complimentary colors to each other. Clearly that was because God knew that Wheaton would be founded and come up with the novel and ingenious idea of making their school colors orange and blue since the beginning of time. As God's favorite college before time even began, God decided to shine his favor upon the steps of Blanchard Hall and make Orange and Blue to be on opposite sides of the color wheel so that they would look so darn stunning with each other. This was so that each time a Wheaton player took the field/court, the glory of Orange and Blue would stupefy all Wheaton opponents immediately and that we would accomplish anything we set our minds to. He's foreknowing and insightful and gracious like that.  ;D 8) :D

That's Cardinal Alum's job ... not mine. I need to be goaded a lot more than this to make me break my vow of smite abstinence. And, no, that is not a cue for you to try harder. ;)
I was actually jokingly referring to God. :P And as we all know that he's definitely NOT CardinalAlum.  :D

Weinke is not the head of the PE dept at north central, he doesn't even work in the dept, except for observatons (which anyone with a education degree can do). I also do not think the other coaches were "offered" better postions they were forced to look for better postions. The coaches that left wern't well respected from "the big guy," however, some of the best coaches on the staff, this was the case even when I played.

Interesting to hear that NC is making a coaching staff change after winning the CCIW.  This just strikes me as odd.  Usually you hear of shakeups if you're in a slump, or not playing to your potential.  NC is riding as high as ever, so to hear of a change is rather shocking.
My gut feeling is that anytime you bring in a new coach it is going to take awhile for the players to learn and get conditioned to the new coaching mind.

Real interesting reading in Keith McMillan's "Around The Nation Year In Review" article. This obviously took a lot of work and tons of time to sort out all the information he presented. Nice job Keith!

Thanks, as always.

Even after collecting tidbits all year, you see how long it takes to put the Year-in-Review together. D3 has grown so much, and there's so many things we can't get to during the year, or things we miss ... honestly, for as long as it takes, it's only worth doing if people like yourself appreciate it, so thanks for the above.

Dude.... :D (I'm the one who lives in Cali, and I don't even use that word!) ;-)

So apparently we should start referring to the Naperville School as the Bloomington School just for the heck of it. Confusing, sure, but it definitely has an air of "they're so irrelevant, we can't even remember what their nickname is or where they are." :D

Just kidding guys. Way to defend home court, as the saying goes, better late than never. :D

I assume you all know the "real" definition of a "dude"!! ;D  Probably, that's why you and I don't use the term?!!! ::)

Did anyone have any thoughts on the Annual Senior Bowl played yesterday in Mobile?  I totally missed it: got busy with some other things that needed taking care of and totally forgot it was on.  They had a good crowd - 40,000+.  Aside from the upcoming Super Bowl, probably the last of fb until spring training?

Clarifications:  I meant to include the Pro Bowl and also am not including the Arena Leagues since they actually start around the time of spring practice/training for college fb.

Heard the Whitworth tight end made a big play. (Allan sp?)

Wanted to watch for the tight end from Delaware as well, Ben Patrick, but alas dont have premium cable on the dude ranch.

Think both are likely to get drafted and might be one two for tight ends were it my draft board.
