I loved Wheaton, and wouldn't trade my experience there for the world.... but I hate college loans!  >:( :D ;)

Hmmm, it's been 10 years since I made my last student loan payment!  :-[

Believe me, I don't miss those, but I'll take that one over the mortgage, car, insurance, utilities, etc, etc.   ;D ;D
Well, I am renting, and my work pays benefits, but aside from that I have the same bills as anyone + the school loans. And of course, as a young, idealistic, recent grad working for a non-profit it's not like I have a huge salary.

About once a month I think, hmm, why didn't I go to a state school again? And then I remember, I only went to the best school in the entire world, that's why.  :P

Sweet good for you.  What years WERE you at CARTHAGE ?    :P :P

I concur, nice comeback. You had me laughing pretty hard this morning. K+ for you. :)

I have in fact been to Kenosha and your fine campus a few times during my stint at the other best school in the world. Fortunately, for the lovely experiences there, I had to pay a lot less money than I did for my tuition. Some examples:

October 30th, 2004

I wasn't there for that one though. I mean November 4th, 2006 was probably the best day in a while, but I wasn't there for that either.  ;)

All this aside, I actually was thinking to myself the other day that I absolutely love how many Carthage fans we had on the site last season even though they didn't end up being the best team in the CCIW. Sometimes the number of fans or lack thereof on this board is an all too good indication of how good the team is. It is terribly refreshing when it is not the case. So I hope none of you take my playful joshing as anything else! I admire your dedication to your team and think you guys tend to do a pretty good job of representing your team and school. :)

I was given half a ride (not for athletics) to go to Purdue, but decided on Elmhurst, because at Elmhurst I could continue to play football and baseball.  I was no "star" in either sport, but Elmhurst gave me the opportunity to continue to play the sports I love.  There was no way I would have been able to do this at Purdue.
I love Purdue and think Tippecanoe County is a nice setting for a University, but I'm with April that there are some things Division III Schools have that D-1 schools don't.

Purdue does have a great band though. What instrument did/do you play?  :)

Actually I've heard the exact same thing from friends of the Dierking family and Wheaton-Warrenville South coaches.  If for some reason things don't work out at Purdue, as of right now he'd consider Wheaton.

But let's not put the cart before the horse... other than questions about his size, I don't see any reason why he won't be successful at Purdue.

Not that I don't believe you but it would be very hard to pass up a scholarship and pay $30,000 a year to attend Wheaton.
All that aside I hope he does very well at Purdue!  He is a Hell of a player!

redman,

I agree with you that it is hard to pass up the ride and pay for school, but if someone feels like they will never get on the field in a D-1 program and they really want to actually play, changing schools to a smaller program is the only other option.  NCC has had a few of these types of players in the past as well.   Tyke Spencer(Indiana) and Jeremy Walsh(Purdue) are two examples of great players at NCC that transferred from D-1.  Tyke actually played quite a bit as a freshman, but got caught up in a coaching change.

I guess the question of giving up a free college tuition to transfer really comes down to a question of what compensation if any the former or current DI players mentioned were actually recieving. Not every DI player is on scholarship or partial scholarship particularly as an underclassman. I know many from my area on DI teams who are walk-ons. Transfering from an out-of-state DI school to a DIII school might be close to a wash financially if there is no scholarship money involved at the DI level. Then it is just a question of a player wanting to play. How many DI schools give money to players who won't help the program or ever play? Does any one know if any of the players mentioned above gave up scholarships by transfering?

Hehe, very funny. I was laughing pretty hard reading this one!  :P ;D
No, I received a scholarship for my Spanish Skills, which I ended up getting a Minor (2 courses away from a 2nd Degree) in Spanish.  The reason I didn't get the Degree/take the other 2 courses was because they were on 1) Spanish History 2) Latin American History.  I felt that if I wanted to learn about these histories, I would just go ahead and take them in English.
Instrument?  I play the piano and do play at various clubs on occasion.

OK back to business, I spoke to Scott Pethtel today at North Park and he is excited that some of his recruits have committed to North Park.  I didn't ask him for any names or positions, just that Pethtel and North Park are starting to lay down some solid foundation blocks.  Good for them!  I hope NPU can start to attract more competitive recruits and slowly build up a program that can compete in the CCIW.

Lastly,  Go Bears!!   :)

I've learned that if you want to visit your alma mater, you just have to force the time to do it. Grown up life just never provides for the free time to make vacations like that. The same goes for money and trips for vacations to the homeland... now the trick is seeing if I can make it out there for a football game!

I actually almost went to the basketball MIAA-CCIW challenge up there instead of the next weekend when I went to the DI game Wheaton played. The MIAA challenge would have been fun cause both of our teams won both of the games that weekend by sweeping the MIAA.  ;D

You bring it on yourself by continually crying about it!  Go on posting and don't worry about Karma, which, By the way, you have stated you find "offensive"

I don't care if someone smites me for a reason.  But smiting once every day when the poster hasn't posted for a month just because you don't like the poster is cyber bullying.

Go,

you are only 6 posts away from being able to "consciously object" to karma.
