for the record Fanthorpe has the stronger arm and better long ball

Ah, I see.  I was just going off of what I saw in the JV games last year.  Didn't make it to any practices, so I didn't see either on a daily basis, but that's how it seemed to me.

from my experience watching and playing in Jeff Thorne's offense, its the more accurate and precise QB (going along with good arm strength and legs) who will have th most success. I'm not sure how it has changed since I've left but I think whoerver can get the ball in the right spot on the short and medium range passes to go along with good run support from an experienced O-Line and RB will carry the offense

I have been trying to stay away from the board because it is still a bit depressing not being able to participate in spring ball and all of the off season activities.

SOT, I think all of us former players still miss it in some way.  For me, the worst time is late summer/early fall when the morning air has a very unique smell of dew covered grass.  That smell is unmistakable.  Now that being said, I think most if not all of us former players who have been away from the game 10 years or more will also tell you, playing flag football can be hard enough on the bones and joints, so that feeling of wanting to put the pads back on is quickly diminished with the realization that doing so may very well lead to a hospital stay.  That's why we post on the board.  We can still talk about how great we'd still be without actually having to prove it.

DD29,

Very well said!  My flag football days ended when every idiot in a bandana came out and wanted to fight after every play.  It wasn't fun anymore.  My softball days ended after I started getting injured every year!  :-[  I was asked to play in an over 40 softball league this year but I won't hit the magic number until next year!  In the mean time, I hurt myself these days swinging the golf club too hard or bending over to get the golf ball out of the cup!   ;D

I agree with what you are saying, but will add that the QB in this offense has to be able to run the option and escape a pass rush once in a while.  Out of the spread, the Qb has many situations where someone comes unblocked and he needss to either unload the ball or scramble.  Kam's ability to avoid a sack was unreal.  When the dust clears, I feel the ability to run the foorball better will put Fanthorpe under center this year.

I don't know who Fanthorpe or the other contender is, but I think that in the North Central offense escaping is what is the big thing.  From what I saw of Kniss he wasn't a John Elway throw the ball 60 yards down the field all the time type of guy.  He was an accurate passer with an inate ability to feel pressure and get away from it.  The quarterback is a key position, but I think the key to the Cardinals season this year will be running the ball.  If they can establish a running game, that should take significant pressure off the poor guy who has to live up to Kniss.

Any news on the NPU recruiting front by the way???

Would love to hear if they've gotten some help for this season...

NPU's had about seventy visits thus far. The hope is that half or more of the visits will pan out and result in prospects becoming recruits.

All-CCIW senior forward Anthony Lenoir of the basketball version of the Vikings, who is scheduled to graduate in December, is planning to play football in the fall. I don't know how he'll fare, since he hasn't played football since he was a high schooler at Evanston Township HS, but at 6'5, 215 he'll make a big and athletic WR for the Park.

Actually NPU football has had close to 200 visits as of this week.  The new coaching staff is really feeling the positive effects of the new facilities.  With the Holmgren Complex and the new Helwig Center, NPU now boasts the not only some of the finest facilities in the CCIW but in D3 as well.  Maybe the best weight room in all of small college football

I think that this is a great tactic for a struggling program.  Get the recruits in and find some players.  This is Coach Pethtel's first complete cycle in recruiting.  Seems like he is finding ways to get the bodies in and see the school and facilities.

This article is posted on the NPU website.  Looks like some serious attempts at team building going on.  For a struggling program, I think the team concept is incredibly important to preach. http://www.northpark.edu/home/index.cfm?northpark=Athletic_News.AthN_Story&ID=1887&sportID=2

FYI, NCC's new Athletic center is in the works and will be state of the art.  I am told that it should be in place by the end of 2007.   Might be wishful thinking as far as the date, but I am glad that the wheels are moving on this woefully lacking facility!

North Park has their spring roster on their website here http://www.northpark.edu/home/index.cfm?northpark=Football.Ftbl_Roster.   If the numbers are correct it not a wonder they are casting the net wide in recruiting with only 30 some odd players on the Spring Roster.

Id say that NPU has a pretty good weightroom from what ive heard, but is it up to par with the complex wesleyan, elmhurst or carthage has???? I think one of the reasons their recruit numbers are so low is still that lack of a campus atmosphere. You cant compare the NPU campus to elmhurst, auggie, north central or carthage, just to name some of the campuses I have visited.

I got that sense when I visited the campus for the games against NPU.  The campus seems disconected at first glance. It is really the only CCIW school in a true "urban" environment where the space seems a bit cramped.  The athletic complex and nice football field is a couple blocks from the locker rooms and athletic training rooms...it makes for an interesting scene on game day because when we walk back after the game we're side by side with some of the NPU players and fans.

I'm asking the NPU alumni on the board...does it feel like a cramped campus that isn't completly connected?
