Matblake-- True!  and Arena Football is underway also, but there is nothing like CCIW (and then Sundays) NFL football in the fall!
I see Augie is slated to play UWP until 2009.  I know this is early, but does anybody know if Augie/UWP plan to renew the contract to continue playing the Pioneers?
At Elmhurst, scheduling wise is going to stay the same for the near future as Benedictine/Chicago/Olivet are locked in extended contracts.
Here is the 2007 Elmhurst Schedule
September 1  7pm @ Benedictine
September 8  Open Date
September 15 7pm @ Chicago
September 22 Olivet
September 29 Carthage
October 6  @Augustana
October 13 North Central
October 20 @Ill. Wesleyan
October 27 Wheaton
November 3 @Millikin
November 10 North Park
Interesting the Jays open up with 2 7pm night games (I think first time ever)  and don't play a home game until 9/22 (fairly late)

I don't know if I can really consider them "away" games ;) ;) :D...sure they'll be wearing white, but those two games are within half hours drive from Elmhurst...and both are very winnable games.  Then the home opener against Olivet (much tougher, but at home with two games under thier belts).  I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jays go 3-0 to start the season.

I think you are right NCC, not too much trouble if the Jays start 3-0.  If Kudyba is anything like his older relative from IWU (I think brother but am not sure), he should be steady and ready for the year.  At least you have the night games when the potential for good evening weather is higher.  I love those early season games night games when you can sit in the stands without a jacket.  But I also love the games played in the driving rain and/or snow.  Guess I just love football!

Modified to correct spelling of Kudyba

The Jays have been dynamite vs. non-conference teams that last few years.  Their last loss was to U of Chicago 46-40 back in 2002 in the shootout where whoever had the ball last- was to win.
No game is easy as we all know and even though Benedictine on paper looks like a creampuff, I know the Eagles will be better.
Yes, Chris Kudyba is the younger Brother of IWU's Tom Kudyba.  Both were star athletes at Elk Grove HS and in the CCIW.
The bottom line is CCIW performance and while Elmhurst is slowing working up the rungs of the ladder,  the Jays need to win some big games (Wheaton/Augie/NC) to get into the upper tier rungs.
The Jays do have a Summer trip to Italy so they will get a chance to "start their engines" early and see what their cards hold prior to the 2007 season.

I agree that BU is going to be better, but (and I'm sure we agree on this) not good enough to beat Elmhurst. They have had an especially tough time stopping the Jays offense the past few years.
2003: 44-13
2004: 60-14 (A year Elmhurst went 1-6 in CCIW play)
2005: 52-6
2006: 34-0

OUCH! I know these were some of BU's leaner years but the Jays have really had thier number

And I don't know about anyone else, but I am thrilled to see NC considered one of the top tier teams these days...it was less than a decade ago we were considered a bottom feeder and now the program has taken a tremendous upswing...it makes me proud as an alum.

NC a top tier team and IWU/Millikin a middle/lower tier team these days... interesting to see the rises/falls of teams over the years.  There were periods in history where IWU and Millikin were the strongest in the Midwest.
(without checking my notebook) I believe Elmhurst has a 7 game winning streak against Benedictine.  I think their last loss was in 1999, but you are right NCCalum62  that Elmhurst has had the Eagles number of late.

I have been trying to stay away from the board because it is still a bit depressing not being able to participate in spring ball and all of the off season activities.

SOT, I think all of us former players still miss it in some way.  For me, the worst time is late summer/early fall when the morning air has a very unique smell of dew covered grass.  That smell is unmistakable.  Now that being said, I think most if not all of us former players who have been away from the game 10 years or more will also tell you, playing flag football can be hard enough on the bones and joints, so that feeling of wanting to put the pads back on is quickly diminished with the realization that doing so may very well lead to a hospital stay.  That's why we post on the board.  We can still talk about how great we'd still be without actually having to prove it.

Devildog29,
+ Karma if I had the ability, and I can't wait to improve the blocking in those flag football leagues  :P

Gotta love flag football, SOT!  I play in the Bud Sports league in St Louis and it's a riot playing O and D line.  Basically, the league is full contact at the line and two hand touch.  I play with some former players from Wooster and Otterbein and Wash U.  It's so funny to see what technique and ability can do against all the guys that thought they were high school heroes.  All i can say is you'll be amazed at how you play.  It's a great feeling, even without the pads.

Note:  I'm only 23 and haven't had a chance to go through all of the aches and pains the "Old Guys" talk about.  ;D :D

Mr. Ypsi

TB,

Getting older sucks, until you consider the alternative.

79jaybird

Hey hey, you're never too old to compete and play.  :) Case in point, we have a guy on our hockey team affectionately known as "Uncle Jerry".  Jerry is 58 years old, plays defense very well (one of the best in the league), in a league where the mean age is probably 27-29 years old.  He loves to suit up and plays hard,  and we all benefit.

Speaking of age(s),  anybody know how old was the oldest player to play in the CCIW was?
I don't know, but I would be curious to know how old?

In the early 90's, Elmhurst had a fullback (3rd string or so) who was 44.  He was featured in most local papers, including the Tribune & Suntimes.  Not sure if that is the oldest, but it's gotta be right up there.

I would imagine these days someone that comes to one of the CCIW schools in thier mid-life (30's, 40's, 50's) is doing it purly for educational reasons (we have many in the continuing education programs at NCC weeking M.B.A's and M.A. in Education.  I'm guessing they aren't even thinking about trying out for a sport.

We almost had a guy who walked on at UIllinois think about trying out at NCC when he came back in his mid 20's to get an education certificate (he graduated with a degree in engineering at UI), but he didn't want to put his body through that.  (This was some years ago)

I mean that at some state schools with a lower cost of tuition some one could go back given thier eligibility and walk on to the football team (if my memory serves me correctly some Gulf War vet did that at south carolina in the near past), but thats alot of money to walk on at NCC, Elmhurst, or Wheaton, or IWU.  Plus many of those people that come back work a job while they are doing it and the classes meet in the evening when football practive would usually meet.

Don't know if I'll be on this weekend, but just want to wish everybody a Happy Easter this weekend.  Don't eat too many Cadbury Eggs.  :P
