Football 2007 very good.   I am sure your Son and his friends can't wait to strap it up and get to "business" on the field.
I went to Prospect HS and my Cousin/some friends went to Fremd.  Carthage has historically attacked Fremd HS heavily for recruits, thus many MSL  combatants get a chance to continue their friendly rivalries in the CCIW.

One thing I do like about the CCIW is that you continue to see and compete against guys that you have competed against previously in high school.  When I wrestled for Wheaton, rosters from Augie, Millikin, North Central, and Carthage all had guys that I was familiar with.

Great thought!  Even stranger and fun was playing against guys you played in high school WITH.  I had high school teammates at Carthage and Millikin.

I couldn't agree more.  I especially liked playing against Elmhurst because my first 2 or 3 seasons, half of the starting offense came from my high school.  It was great to have bragging rights over them for all 4 years when we'd hang out over the summers.  ;D
I am a NATIONAL Champion, and I refuse to lose!

Yes, Irish21's Son and I played baseball and football against each other Fremd vs. Prospect.
More coincidental-  Ric Radcliffe (QB at Wheaton)  his Father was an Assistant Coach of mine at Prospect.  ;)
And Al May (bball player who won Nat'l Championships at NPU)  he coached my basketball team growing up, and spent many years in school with 2 of his 3 daughters.  Small, small world!
OK, on to football, I sure hope the D3 world gets a few draft picks in the NFL this weekend.
I know Elmhurst is going to be going to Italy here soon, and Augie is going to Europe also.  Any other CCIW teams going abroad?

Wow, what a great board.  I was at Wheaton from '89-'93 and played football the '91 and '92 seasons, mainly scout team fodder.  Friends with Neal Neathery (now DC at Wabash), Bart Moseman, Pedro Arruza, Jeff Frazier, Kermit Ellison, Devin Leftwich and other names some of you old guys might remember like Jim Johanik, an OL transfer from IWU.

Best memory: Beating Augie in 1991 for the first time in something like 16 years (going by memory on this one - it had been a long, long time) en route to a 7-1-1 season.

I'd say the Wheaton-Augustana matchup in football is definitely a big rivalry, at least from the Wheaton side.  At least in the late 80's and early 90's we wanted to beat those guys more than anyone else on the schedule.  Probably b/c they had set the standard of excellence for so long.  When Wheaton finally broke through and started winning some games in the series beginning with that game in '91, I think the rivalry heated up on the Augie side as well, and the two have had some epic battles in the years since then.  At the time I played Wheaton - North Central wasn't that big a rivalry in spite of the Bell, because Wheaton had dominated that series for a long time.  NCC has since become a force in the CCIW and I'm guessing that has heated the rivalry back up.

Welcome DIIIinVA!

Always nice to hear from another former Wheaton player.  Especially from my era.  I was around as a player from 85'-88' and then was an assistant coach from 89'- 94'.  I have some very fond memories of that time, particularly the 91' Augie game you mentioned.

Nah, it only seems like Pedro was at Wheaton for a long time to NCC faithful given the yards he had rushing against you.  One in particular stands out at North Central... Pedro had almost 300 yards rushing in the 1st half alone.

Rivalries
The most famous, and most glamorous Rivalry is Wheaton vs. North Central for the LBBell as those have stated. Other good rivalries
Carthage vs. Elmhurst  this is Elmhurst's arch rival and the team that we were "told to beat" as players.
IWU vs. Millikin  is another good battle.  On our broadcasts, I refer to this one as the Rt. 51 Rivalry.
Elmhurst vs. North Central is more of a proximity rivalry, however you ask any NC player who their main rival is... it's Wheaton.
Augie vs. Wheaton - only in football.    Other good D3 rivalries
Wabash vs. DePauw Monon Bell
Cortland St. vs Ithaca  Cortaca Jug
Knox vs. Monmouth
Hope vs. Calvin  (all sports except football)

Carthage vs Carroll
The old Musket game.
The old musket game is a carryover from the days when Carroll College was in the CCIW.  The old musket is an old Civil war style musket that has been handed off between the two teams.  Coach Rucks got the rivalry started up again my sophomore year.  He told us, that back when he played for Carthage, that the losing team would have to present the musket to the winning team at the first home basketball game of the year.

With some of the schools planning europe trips, just curious if Carthage has ever talked about going.

football2007,
There has been some talk about a possible trip, but for now Carthage has to fund the trip to Whittier, CA, which I am sure isnt cheap. I know that WIU has made the trip to Europe but I am not sure about any other CCIW teams.

Wheaton has been going over to Europe and Africa for at least 7 years in the spring, but not for football.  They have travelled to Dakar, Sengal (Africa), Romania and Guinea to take part in service/short-term missions projects.  While it doesn't explicitly lead to better football skills on the field, it does lend to a tighter group and team unity, along with doing something worth while.

For more on what the Wheaton football teams have done:

That's one that I had not heard of.  Stinky timetable if you are the winning team to publicly receive the award so long after the game.  However, back in the days when Carroll was in conference, you probably didn't have to wait as long as you would now that Carroll v Carthage is non-conference and at the beginning of the football season.

Yes, the Old Musket Trophy is a great rivalry.  I have seen the Musket and it is a very nice piece of weaponry.
I am sure the Carthage fans know, but Coach Rucks does NOT like to Fly.  (like yours truly too)  He is excited/nervous about going on the trip to Whittier this year.

Isn't Arruza Wheaton's all time rushing leader?

Yes, Arruza is Wheaton's career rushing leader with 3179 yards.

He's now the head coach at D-III Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, which plays in the ODAC conference.

BTW I'm in Virginia but I'm not him.

How does fundraising work at Carthage.  Does the team fundraise for this or the school etc.  I was involved in a lot of fundraising for my son's private HS.

NCC_alum62

Colleges will often look to alumni (Benedetti-Wherli Stadium) for contributions for upgrades in facilities and when taking trips.

When NCC went to Colorado we sold golf-cards (discounts on green fees etc at area courses) Thorne personally raised over 8,000 just selling those cards. Now that was when the team was not 9-2, 9-3.

Colleges typically have a budget and then anything else comes from alumni...At the D-1 level they have media contracts and sponsership etc etc etc to pay for facilities and coaches salaries, but Alumni make significant contributions in D-1 too.
