There has been some talk about a possible trip, but for now Carthage has to fund the trip to Whittier, CA, which I am sure isnt cheap. I know that WIU has made the trip to Europe but I am not sure about any other CCIW teams.

How does fundraising work at Carthage.  Does the team fundraise for this or the school etc.  I was involved in a lot of fundraising for my son's private HS.

At Carthage, we have a lift-a-thon that occurs every spring and that raises money for the entire team to use for the next season. We bought new home and away jerseys recently.  Also, the president of the college really likes football and he is more willing to spend money on the team than other sports.
These are as good as money, these are IOU's

With some of the schools planning europe trips, just curious if Carthage has ever talked about going.

Augie will be going to Austria and the Czech Republic this year. It'll be their third European trip since 1999.

Years ago Dennie Bridges raised money for IWU bball trips by accepting d1 guarantees to serve as 'cannon-fodder'.  I imagine that got a lot tougher after they stunned Arizona in 1982! ;)

I was the winner of the first two lift-a-thons we used the money then to put in the lights.

I have won a couple, last year I won and I got something like $300 which I used to buy gloves, my away jersey (still not washed from the NCC game) and my helmet from this year.

The travel to Whittier is a part of the budget but I am not sure how the teams would pay for the Europe trips. It is probually a combination of both the budget and fundraising or possibly some money out of the pocket of the players.

Happy to see Michael Allan get drafted.  Way to go kid!  Go show the NFL that there are some GREAT athletes coming from D-3 schools.
We had something similar to what Son of Tailgater described at my high school.  We (as a team) wanted new home/road jerseys and to rebuild our deteriorating pressbox, so we washed cars on Saturdays, and had a "lifting jamboree", which provided the capital.  We would get sponsors for each pound lifted in squats, deadlifts, power cleans, and bench.

If I remember correctly, which is hard to do with all the booze and head shots, if we fund raised a certain amount we got to keep our travel suits?  I am pretty sure Rucks gave us seniors our Helmets and Jerseys

Redmen96, redmen04,
All seniors get thier travel suits for free as a gift from the program. If you are a freshman, soph., or junior you have the option to purchase your travel suit or to turn it back in. The retail of the travel suits are something around $125-$175 but they usually sell it to us for around $50 which was worth it for me for the 3 years. Plus I just added it to Tailgaters bill..haha  :D

Comet 14

Elmhurst has been raising $ by parking cars several times at charity events to help pay for there Italy trip. Hey Jaybird have you heard if Elmhurst is having a spring scrimmage?

Comet14 I have not heard anything on the topic of a Spring Scrimmage.  I did know they were raising the funds by valet-ing at various events.
I know they are playing in Italy and traveling to a few Italian cities coming up soon.

fyi... more on Tom Beck.  He was inducted in 2004 to the College Football Hall of Fame and holds a .724 all-time winning percentage as a coach.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_College_Football_Hall_of_Fame_inductees_(coaches)

I appear to be thinking of some other CCIW coach that went onto Notre Dame, because it wasn't Coach Beck.

Mugsy,

Millikin had a defensive coordinator around 1997-1998 that had played for Neibhur at wittenberg. I think he went on to be a graduate assistant or more at Notre Dame and is now coaching somewhere in the college ranks.
