It may not say anything. Homecoming is rarely set by the football coach. It's more often set by the alumni office.

Yeah NCC scheduled NPU, Carthage, IWU, and Elmhurst for homecomming in my four years (I' proud to say we went 4-0), but Carthage is always a very tough game and IWU was a game we were not expected to win but pulled off with a Kam Kniss pass to Brad Spencer with 6 seconds left in the game to win 20-16.

NCC played Millikin and lost for homecomming in 2000 57-0 (I think this was thier homecoming) so I know sometimes the admin gets it way wrong. Typically they try to chose a team they think they can beat (is my understanding) but most of the time its the last home game in October for NCC and whoever that is plays us on homecoming.

NCC_alum62

Millikin is NCC's last home game in October...hence they are scheduled for homecomming this year...at least at NCC homecomming is decided by whoever does the conference schedules for the CCIW  ;)

At Elmhurst the Alumni Office does decide which game/weekend Homecoming will be celebrated.  Also, the calendar and "itinerary" come into play when decided a Homecoming Weekend.  This year Elmhurst has North Central as our Homecoming.  Last couple Homecomings have been IWU, North Park, and Carthage.
I know the Cincineli kid from York and he is a solid D Lineman.  That is a good pickup for IWU.  Rats!  Another Elmhurst product that feels Elmhurst Coll. is too close to home.  >:(

Here's the most recent NCC recruits list.  The Shaub kid from Lockport is a huge pickup as he had a couple of brothers that were All-CCIW at Millikin.  To get him away from the Blue was tough i'm sure.

I think that is the case at Wheaton too. they have homecoming either last weekend in september or 1st weekend in october every year. it all depends on which one is a home game for the team i think.

New Tradition

Had a chance to stop by a spring practice yesterday and have a look at how the Cardinals were doing.  It seemed to me like everything was progressing nicely.  I saw a lot of hustle and genuine work ethic.  As far as the qb situation is concerned, I can't say if it is like this every day or if it just happened to be this way yesterday, but it seemed to me that Fanthorpe was taking more reps with the first group than Knapczyk was, for anyone who was wondering who looked like they were holding the edge.  Also, I believe that there was a discussion a while back (I was not involved) about which potential starting qb was bigger.  Knapczyk is listed at 6'0" 180, Fanthorpe 5'11" 185.  I hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful weather!  Not to wish the summer away, but August needs to hurry up and get here!

The fact that we pull our hair out every offseason makes the season that much better!

Hmmmm, not much difference in size, at least according to the numbers.  New Tradition, did it appear that one had more confidence than the other, ie the way they were carrying themselves on the field?  I know that's kind of a hard question for only seeing a spring practice.  It will be interesting to see if it takes a few games to have the new QB really get comfortable.

MatBlake,
I saw both quarterbacks make some very good throws.  As far as poise, I really couldn't say if one carried himself better than the other in the brief 7 on 7 and 1 on 1 sessions, but both quarterbacks did seem very comfortable with the offense, and also seemed to know their reads very well on the passes that I saw thrown.  Fanthorpe did look a little more athletic moving around in the "pocket" (no real pocket to move around in, but they did occasionally send a "d-lineman" in that the quarterback had to avoid before completing his throw.)  All in all, if i was forced to say something at this point, I would say Fanthorpe holds the SLIGHT edge, but I did only see 1 day.  I could have caught one on a bad day or the other on a good day, etc.  Even still, the quarterbacks are very even in many many aspects of the game.  Jeff Thorne will have a dilemma (albeit a good one) when it comes time to decide who gets the nod in August.

I'm with you RG, I was wondering too.  I just don't think it's fair to the other kids(Fanthorpe, Knapczyk) to even discuss it until something is official which as of right now it is NOT.  Which is why I haven't even mentioned it either.

Titanwatcher,  you're on the right track is all I can say for now.

for those of us not on the "inside" at NCC, I think what they are referring to is the probable transfer of Kyle Kniss from EIU to NCC. Kyle (I assume is related to Kam) was a sophmore qb on the Panthers team last year. He saw some mop up duty as a true freshman 2 seasons ago and didn't get any time this past season in a 2 person qb race that saw Cole Stinson emerge as leader of the panthers. stinson started 8 games and let EIU to a co-conf championship and playoff berth. Stinson returns and is the slotted starter. Kyle would be a junior and got some time in the just completed spring practice including scoring a TD on a bootleg at the end of the spring "scrimmage".

Obviously, with Kyle slated to sit as a junior, he would like to play somewhere and NCC has a special calling for people whose first and last name start with a K.
