CF,

I'm with you!  How about we take a golf cart down there and time his miles!  I'll run it with you if you move that decimal over 1 or 2 spots to the left!  On a serious note, Mugsy, I would also be more than happy to contribute to your cause.  Send me an e-mail or post something here if you wish with any info.  Is our dinner bet still on for the Bell game if you won't be in attendance??

No need to time me... that is why they invented sundials almost 7000 years ago.

The sundial is the oldest known device for the measurement of time and the most ancient of scientific instruments. It is based on the fact that the shadow of an object will move from one side of the object to the other as the sun "moves" from east to west during the day.

5000-3500 BC

The first device for indicating the time of day was probably the gnomon. It consisted of a vertical stick or pillar; the length of the shadow it cast gave an indication of the time of day.

Thanks for the offer to support autism research.  I'll let you know the details when I have it and yes... the bet is still on regardless of whether or not I'm at the game.

Mugsy told me that if the Naperville school wins vs Wheaton this year he will buy the whole board dinner.

While I am supremely confident in Wheaton's chances this year, despite the fact players haven't even reported to camp yet, I would never, ever make such a public comment.

I mean common on now... I just lost 24lbs over the past 10 months.  If I were to win a dinner from everyone on the board, I'd gain 30lbs back. :P

Allright,

Lets talk some football ladies and gentlemen

Who are the new freshman to look at coming in??   Anyone that is going to make an immediate impact?

Will Augie begin passing more so they can score with NC or just get shutout in the biggest game of the year again?

Why does it seem Elmhurst can never make it over the hump?  is it the coaching or the lack of effort from players when it counts?

Is Studebaker going to break 17 1/2 sacks this year?

How many picks will ittersagen have?

Is Sulo going to rush for 1500 yards?

What the heck was the running back from St. Johns thinking?  Who cares how cute she is?  She just became a teenager a few months ago!

1. I don't know much about Freshmen, NCC has a couple tall (but thin) DL comming in 6'5 215 and 6'7'' 250 the 6'7'' kid is from Naperville North...Anyone know anything about him?

2.  Augustana discovered the forward pass?

3. Niether, getting beat doesn't always mean its the coaching or the effort, they just got beat.  While I don't consider them more than a middle of the pack team for next year they could pull off an upset against someone that doesn't take them seriously.

4. Probably, I haven't heard alot of noise about Tackles around the CCIW that have the speed and strength to stop him.

5. Depends on how healthy he is comming back from injury, full strength he will lead the DB's in the CCIW.

6. I doubt it considering the Carindal's offense is pass first.  He would have to have some monster games averaging about 50 yards more per game than he did last year.  I don't see Wheaton or Auggie giving up that much on the ground.

7. What is this about the St., John's RB?  I have no idea what you're talking about.

I would agree with you about ittersagen, but if he is playing corner, dont you think most teams would tend to throw away from him, limiting his chances to lead the cciw in picks?

It will be interesting to see if the Rooney kid can break the line up in Bloomington. If he is anything like his Dad he could  have a significant impact. I understand that he is very fast also, in the 4.5 range. From a personal  view, carthage got a kid named rowland from Willowbrook. I loved watching this kid play. All heart, just don't know where he will fit in up there. I saw him will his team to victory with a big play on defense followed up with a hard run for the winning touchdown. Fun kid to watch.
can't comment on Elmhurst, have not seen enough, but unless evvery team uses Orlando Pace at LT, 20 looks like a good number for Studebaker. If Kniss2 is as good as his brother i cant see Sulo going that high, but close. Asfor the kid from St John's .........

Where is the rooney kid from and what was his old mans history like?  If this was already posted, i apologize.

If teams are smart, they will bring a back out of the backfield to assist in blocking Studebaker, maybe even a wing/tight end in motion to delay for a second (block) and then be a safety valve.

Mugsy, I did not know you were a Marathon runner.  Best wishes with that!  I am nowhere near Marathon distance, but I do run about 10K 2-3 times a week.

As a short, undersized, former LB I am NOT a marathon runner... Prior to the start of my training in January, I had never run more than 5 miles.  Just something that has always been at the back of my mind as a challenge to take on.

Running a 10K a few times a week is excellent.  Slowly extend that a bit over time and you would be ready for a marathon in no time.

Reaching 40 and being essentially at my playing weight (which there is a huge difference between playing weight at 22 vs. 40) became enough of a motivating factor for me to attempt this.  It has been beneficial as I am now at the weight I was when I turned 18 (loss of 24 lbs).  That said my motivation is not solely for personal benefit.  I plan to raise money toward autism research and treatment.  My brother has an autistic son and I want to run to raise money on his behalf.

I have thought about running a marathon but I found I don't have a way to keep my beer cold for 26.2 miles.   :D

OK seriously, Mugsy, my best wishes to you and hope for great success in your goal!  Is there someway we could contribute to your cause?  Give us a link or address to send contributions to.  Plenty of CCIW guys on here would help out I am sure.

There should be a Division 3 cross country board,  I have a feeling NC would dominate that and we wouldnt be short of posters.

Great Point, I would think most teams would game plan around him the best that they can, but also you gotta believe if he is 100% that Wheaton will line him up consistantly on either the best reciever (in man coverage situations) or to the strong side of the field (in zone coverage situations).  I don't know what Wheaton prefers, (O-lineman generally concern themselves with the front 7), but I would imagine that a healthy Ittersagen will always be coached into the best place on the field to be to make plays.

From what I've heard from the Wheaton posters and the opinion of the DIIIsports.com folks (picking him as a pre season AA) it looks as though he is ready to go.

Surprisingly after checking it out not too much NCC hype, they've had some down years recently (and by down I mean only placing in the top 10 in the nation...strange), I didn't see alot of NCC posters, maybe they don't know about DIIIsports.com...sacrilicious

Rooney finished one year before I arrived at Wheaton.  I played primarily against Doug Moews and Brad Forsyth when we played IWU, though we faced 3 different QB's my senior year as Brad Forsyth and the 2nd string QB blew their knees out on consecutive series.

If I recall correctly Forsyth's knee injury was particularly gruesome.  Chad Thorson and Thane Ritchie arrived at the QB at the same time.  Chad had him wrap up high and Thane was down around the knees due to being partially blocked by the RB.  They twisted in opposite directions and I'm sure the pop could be heard at least to both sidelines, if not into the stands.  The trainers were on the field immediately.  I believe it was a dislocated patella (knee cap) along with several torn ligaments.

That is a major reason why you will not find 1988 in the IWU record books for passing yards in a season by a QB.

Even just reading about that makes me squirm.........

Speaking of gruesome injuries, when I played on the Freshman team in high school, there was a kid from the opposite team who got twisted up in a pile and immediately started screaming.  People got off him ASAP but didn't immediately see anything wrong with him.  The kid ripped off an arm pad he had on and there was a bone sticking out of his arm.  One of my teammates puked.

Worst injury I ever saw (heard) was on a fullback dive as a freshman in high school.   The FB slipped a bit going through the hole and ended up on all fours.  A couple of OLine & DLineman fell on top of him.  Both knees slide outward, pancaking his hips into the ground.  A dislocation of both hips at once...  not a pretty sight or sound. :o
