Facility news from a letter from Coach Swider to the football Alum:

Another exciting happening this summer... The plans are for a new scoreboard to be unveiled on Saturday night, October 13th, when we play Augustana.  This scoreboard is special and includes a 12'x21' high definition video replay screen.  This is just another example of what is happening here in this program.

Cool... now CCIW players can look up at the "semi-jumbo tron" to see a reply of themselves...   :P

Or a replay. :)

And from the opponent, perhaps a reply to the replay. ;)

Quote from: shark56 on August 09, 2007, 01:33:16 AMAnd to comment on NPU... come on... probably one of the worst 10 teams in all of D3, havent' won a conf game in something like 8 years, your bound to win a game just out of luck out of 48 or so games.

Wow, that was a serious overstatement, Shark. "Probably one of the worst 10 teams in all of D3"? Hardly. NPU's been the gridiron doormat of the CCIW for almost all of the last forty years, but let's keep that in perspective. The CCIW is a very strong football league by D3 standards, so its worst team isn't necessarily bottom-of-the-barrel by D3 standards. I've seen enough non-conference opponents at the corner of Foster and Albany get bounced around the field by the Vikings to know what "one of the worst 10 teams in all of D3" must truly look like. Take last season's Eureka team, for example. The Red Devils lost 34-6 to NPU en route to an 0-10 season that included a last-place finish in the woebegone IBFC (a league that annually supplies the Vikings with a non-conference win or two). And because there are always teams to be found within a 300-mile radius that are worse than the Vikes, NPU has been able to avoid going winless for the past nine seasons.

North Park has won 12 of its 21 non-conference contests in this decade. That's not a mark that's going to make any NPU alumnus stand up and cheer, but it clearly illustrates that NPU is not one of the worst ten teams in all of D3.

Justwatch, I can sympathize with your desire to instill some respect for your team. I certainly approve of your zealousness, given that I'm a North Park alumnus and (by anyone's standards) a pretty serious fan of the Vikings in every sport. I'll be watching you from the stands and cheering for you this fall. However, your zealousness outstrips your good judgment in this case. I can assure you that Coach Pethtel does not want his players to post on this message board. Please stop posting here. Do your talking on the field with your pads, not on d3football.com. And take heed of what former players like Washedupcard have to say. They've walked in your shoes, and they see the bigger picture now that their playing days are behind them. It's not an accident that the words "but wiser" frequently follow the word "older".

Quote from: Mr. Ypsi on August 05, 2007, 05:41:14 PMGreg, regarding 3-sport stars: I'll retract the 'ever' part if you'll retract the 'common as dirt' dig. ;)  3-sport athletes may have been more common back when Mr. Ypsi shared the Titan campus with mastodons (and the occasional hold-out dinosaur), but 3-sport all-conference selections have never been common.  And if anyone can find a match for Steve Laub's all-around excellence, I'm eager to hear it.

Chuck, the historical records available online for the CCI(W) are quite limited. That's particularly true of All-CCIW selections in most sports, men's basketball being a conspicuous exception.

North Park is not going to be in the Bottom 10 ... or even the Bottom 25 of our upcoming 1-238 ranking in Kickoff.

I like that NP are underdogs cuz we got a big surprise for everyone this year. 8)

Let me guess.......hmmm......they are going to add pizza to the home game menu?? they are switching to white cleats from black?? Maybe they are going to start putting a coach in the pressbox?? free happy meals from Mcdonalds at halftime for the visiting team? wait, I got it.....North Park has decided to give visiting teams free metra passes to get from the field to the locker room? great idea.

......ok i give up. the suspense is killing me....whats the big surprise?

by the way, donte, say hi to len vandenbos from all us wheaton fans. he is a great coach and a good man and he probably doesn't want you posting on this board.

Lest anyone forget a previous NP player appearing on this board I was able to dig this up from a little over a year ago.

Mr. Ypsi

Now, usee, in fairness he didn't say WHAT the surprise was - many of us thought NP would finally get their first conference win in 'forever' last year!  Probably he just meant - surprise, we're going 0-7 AGAIN! ;D

More seriously, I hope they DO finally get a win this year.  A 'permanent doormat' is not good for any league in any sport.  Unlike many of you, I just hope the breakthrough isn't against my Titans - but with our recent history I would not be shocked.
